I got that a few times. did you click rename and type in Input.ck2? as long as you dont change the CK2 tag already attached, adding CK2 to the name is redundant and will cause issues. Rename it and delete .ck2 if that's what you did, you could even just save the game as "input" in CK2 itself if you prefer.

Good observations. Those are two items that are right near the top of my list to address.

(edit) Interesting feature: mousing over the greyed-out "construct COT" button on day one will crash the game, as there are no COTs around at the start.

Something I've seen myself. Had me worried for awhile until I realized the cause.
 
Hi, the mod converted correctly, except I start with -100 prestige and I can't recruit any military units. Playing a Byzantium with muslim tech if that makes a difference. The available military unit tabs are just blank.
 
I also have used the mod to convert and have the same "issues" as other people. Very grateful!

I figured that since maybe I had been converting a multiplayer save ahead a little bit (1350's) that maybe the unit tab was greyed out until a certain date. Glad to hear that it should figure itself out in a year or two. Starting with no money is a bummer, no way to have an easy carry over from CK2? Even starting with 50 would be preferential.

Ah I edited the "muslim tech" line in my converted saves. My friend and I are playing Poland and Hungary, just switched us both to Eastern.

Yes I also encounter a CTD if I mouse over the COT stuff the first month. I tried to edit in COT's for places in my save I figured would make sense due to our garbled map, however they do not seem to come into play and the system puts a few random ones in (Rekyavik *sp and Thrace seem popular) and they subdivide from there.

Very impressed so far. Knowing now that the military greyed out unit selection will eventually resolve is excellent! The COT thing is a bit annoying but can be played around.
 
Well, the reason it resolves is that you get new techs with units in them. Not knowing anything about whether it unlocks all previous units or just the ones you got I'll hazard a guess that it only unlocks new units and that Western is not going to have cavalry for a while.

I gave all the countries in my save the default western units (those posted on the previous page), regardless of techgroup. When I loaded up my game, I could switch the western ones to the Muslim units my country could have. So I think it would unlock all previous ones, as they were there but inaccessible.

Is there any way that there can be a check to see if the Ilkhanate/Timurids is/are a faith other than they historically were, and if so then make all the Indian/steppe nomad minor that religion? Since in my game, both Hordes when Catholic and we all wiped Islam off the face of the [European] globe, and I also codded the game so the the Timurid would show up Catholic as a result. Point is, is there any way I/you/someone can make the converter turn all the Muslims in Asia Catholic (or whatever religion) if the Hordes convert to that faith?
 
Thank you for this great tool, but like others, my friend and I are having problems with the recruitment of soldiers.
I already changed the tech to eastern via a savegame editor, but we are still not able to produce units. Strangely, it works in some provinces, when I load the game in Singleplayer and yes, we already reached a new land units tech. Did we miss something?
The only error while converting th save, was this line:

I got that a few times. did you click rename and type in Input.ck2? as long as you dont change the CK2 tag already attached, adding CK2 to the name is redundant and will cause issues. Rename it and delete .ck2 if that's what you did, you could even just save the game as "input" in CK2 itself if you prefer.

I'd guess this is probably it. Let me know if it isn't. Also, you can drag and drop the save to convert onto the exe.

The military issues are all because we haven't addressed that area yet. I guess it's a good thing you all bring it up, it implies we're now in a state that seems playable.

Oh, and that error everyone gets? That should read "Error: Idhrendur put in a quick hack instead of a real solution." In actual fact, it doesn't cause any problems, just displays a message to freak you out.
 
Keen! I made a suggestion that passed! But there was one other thing I wanted to bring up, which probably only happened cause of my weird CK2 game. In CK2, playing as D_Orleans > K_England > E_France, I manged to conquer and convert all of Africa to Catholic, even making most of its people French. However, upon converting to EU3, I notated a few oddities. The biggest where that Morocco existed and was Muslim, which was odd since I had conquered that whole area and made it Catholic and culturally Frankish. The other issues are with the provinces of Haud, which is converted into EU3 Adal but is in an area that should be part of the owner of the province to its north, who in that game was me. In Egypt there is the province named Nubia, which is converted into be a Muslim Mameluke province, even though neither of those existed in my game; it should belong to the owner of the province (and religion and culture) to the east, which in that game was me; otherwise, you just have a splotch of Muslim Mameluke in a place where that's silly. Lastly we have the EU3 province of Segu, which is in West Africa; it is owned by the Sultanate of Mali, despite the provinces south and east of it being part of my empire, whereas everything west was under Mali control, and so it looked silly. And on that note, despite me conquering all of CK2 Mali, converting it, and making everyone there Catholic, all o the nations around that area (including Mali, which shouldn't have existed) where either Sunni or Pagan; perhaps the religion of the vanilla EU3 African Muslims should chance depending on what religion held the CK2 Kingdom of Mali? (Again, which would be Catholic in this case.)

Are these suggestions reasonable, or am I just being annoying at this point?
 
However, upon converting to EU3, I notated a few oddities. The biggest where that Morocco existed and was Muslim, which was odd since I had conquered that whole area and made it Catholic and culturally Frankish. The other issues are with the provinces of Haud, which is converted into EU3 Adal but is in an area that should be part of the owner of the province to its north, who in that game was me. All of the above could probably be fixed - or at least alleviated - by better province mappings. See the first couple of pages (or so) of this thread for instructions.

Possibly. I'm kind of against ROTW nations not present in CK2 being overly influenced by what transpired in CK2, but for nations that exist in both games (e.g. Mali) it seems prudent to go with the same approach you suggested for the off-map hordes.
 
That's three different issues entwined with each other.

First of all is incorrect province mapping. Our province mappings were done rapidly, and all of us that worked on it confessed to not being too clear on the relevant geography. If you have corrections, update the mapping files, and then either post the changed lines here or check the updated file in directly.

The second and third issues involve owned provinces in EU3 that are outside the borders of CK2.

The second case is when they're owned by nations that could exist in CK2, but no longer do (or that don't border the appropriate provinces). Morocco and Ethiopia often see this, as do some of the Portuguese-colonized islands in later conversions. I'm not too sure on what to do in these circumstances. (it's actually the first open issue listed in the second post).

The third case is when they're owned by CK2 nations that still exist and border them. Namely, the issues of culture and religion. I think changing the religion is probably a reasonable step. Culture, probably not (especially not with the hordes).

That's a complete oversight on my part. Thanks for bringing it up.
 
OK just officially started a match with that save I did a few pages ago, and found something odd. my culture in CK2 was Pommeranian Germanic sub group in CK2, at first I didn't realize the issue, but I and all Pommeranian cultures have been switched to West Salavic Polish in EU3.

(morocco a extension of my dynasty in CK2, was also switched)
