I tried it again, with and without the mod, and it always crashes at: "13-01-13 21:48:48: Warning: could not decide on culture for EU3 province 19 due to ties."

Province 19 is Österbotten, or Pohjanmaa in CK2. What's it mean by ties?

If multiple CK2 provinces become a single EU3 province, we have a series of various ways to determine which province's culture becomes the EU3 province's culture. It's mostly based on your holdings. If we can't distinguish them in the end, you get that warning, and the choice is arbitrary.

There was also a bug in the last release that didn't check all the factors correctly. It's since been fixed, and by my tests, it's now extremely rare to see that warning.

As far as the crash goes, it's almost certainly something else. Something we never expected and isn't logged, which makes tracking the bug down rather annoying.

I converted my game (No mods) successfully and loaded it up, but I can't select a preferred unit type even though it says I have superior unit types. Any help?

That's a known bug that we'll have fixed in the next release.

I read somewhere that being an Empire at the time of the convert messes it up - is it that? Cause I got Britannia ruling half of Europe...

It shouldn't. Well, I once heard a rumor that if you you hold more than one empire and have gavelkind succession, things go weird. But the code doesn't look like that'd be true, and it's never been confirmed.

How is the tech group you get decided, I converted my Byzantine game and i was put in the Muslim tech group. I would of thought it would either be in the eastern or latin tech group, but not muslim

That you still get those warnings is a sign that it's still not picking up all the files. Though the crash may well be the same one everyone else has had. I'm not quite sure what's going on.

I don't understand what's wrong then. Why isn't it picking up the files? Does it matter where I extract the converter? Is it ok that I overwrote the files in the converter dir with those from CK2PlusToEu3?
Is it supposed to use the files directly under "common"? Because for example I see that CK2dir\common\buildings.txt contains the string "#OBSOLETE"...

Yeah, tech group determination is a bit strange. It rates several factors province-by-province compared to other nations, averages them, and places you in a group based on that. It definitely causes problems due to the law of large numbers (if your empire covers half the map, you're just about guaranteed to be merely average). And that in turn causes problems with government determination, so we end up with tribal democracies, which cause numerous mechanical problems in the EU3 game.

Boy, I feel stupid. It works again after I replaced the Converter mod config files with the default ones.

Its just that using the converter mod makes it crash for me.

Scrolled back a number of pages but couldn't see this one mentioned (though i may be blind in which case, apologies.)

Worse, it converts tech group before we merge nations, so it's entirely possible that there's no western tech group.

As well, I suspect some nations don't hit any of our conditions for governments and get some stupid default. And it's not even logged.

Don't know what I was thinking.

It knows to look in the sub-folders (if you open the traits one, you can see a list of all the traits, for instance). But it's obviously not getting the full list of traits for you…not sure why. Unfortunately, I haven't done any work with converting modded games, so I don't really know what it might be. :-/

The most obvious issue is that the file isn't there. As a first check, go and see if it is. If it's not, verify your game files on Steam and it should fix it.

I keep getting the issue of not being able to open input.ck2. Where is this file supposed to be and why is it missing / unable to open it? lol

The Readme has an "instructions" section that should cover this. Input.ck2 is the source save you are trying to convert (copy it from your ck2 saves folder and rename it, or just drag and drop it on ck2toeu3.exe).

Thanks, over-wrote the original readme with the instruction lacking CK2+ one.

Now it appears to be spitting out a whole crap ton of errors, many of which regarding to the jewish communities in CK2+.
View attachment 71134 There is the log

It's all CK2 files that aren't being picked up, but that are referenced in your save. That's two people who are having this problem now. I'm rather confused. DTRemenak, any insight on this?

I'm very sorry for being curt, then; I'd falsely assumed you just hadn't read it. We should rename the readme distributed with the CK2+ files so they don't conflict.

It looks like all the vanilla traits and titles are being picked up fine, just the extra ones are not being read. I'd assume it's something about the CK2+ mod files being installed somewhere different, or having a different naming convention, but I'm afraid I know precious little about modding (since I run my own games vanilla). I really ought to learn something...it'd probably help me make some progress with Vic2ToHOI3 ;).

Does the exe get the file paths from the save file? If the ck2+ save file referencing is confusing the converter I could try playing around with the save file, or if it's possible maybe add pointers to other files within files?

Edit: I've played around with the files, overwriting files in the dirs under CK2\common with CK2+ files.. it seems to work better if I use buildings, cultures and religions txt files from the CK2plus\common (by overwriting the ones in CK2\common).
However for landed_titles I kept the original file under CK2\common while overwriting the CK2\landed_titles dir with the one from CK2+ and now the log looked better:

However further along I got the following warnings and errors:

Then it did a lot of tech conversion and froze and crashed at economies:

Yes, that looks much better.

Code:

This is probably an error in the CK2+ mapping files. Open religion_mappings.txt, change "jewish" to "judaism" and see if that helps.

The freeze and crash may be related to this problem. Looks like there's a missing province mapping. A small change to province_mappings.txt should address that: find province 944 in CK2+, and figure out what EU3 province ID you want it to map to. If there's already a province mapped to that EU3 province, add ck2 = 944 to the list, otherwise create a new line with the ck2 province and the eu3 province.
