A word on the Tartar/Siberian split:

I'm not sure exactly what the Siberian culture is supposed to represent, but it seems odd to give them so much real estate.

There are two notable cultures that are mongol-related that do not appear in converted games, Uzbek and Khazak.

Uzbek originate from pre-mongol tribal societies that co-developed along with their Turko-Mongol overlords, essentially a "melting pot" culture in CK2 terms that arose from various tribes under Turko-Mongol rule with common languages.

Khazak is a word whose origin means "wanderer" and similarly represents a union of Kipchak-speaking peoples underneath Turko-Mongol suzereinity. The Khazak identity basically came into being from the Khazak horde during the 1450's.

Additionally, EU4 has the mysterious culture of Uralic, which I believe represents the Finno-Ugric peoples of the Ural Mountains.

So, my proposal to "once and for all" clean up the steppes is this:

Keep Tartar working the way it does now (maybe make Mongol states whose capitals are within Europe convert to Tartar state culture if they don't already).

Limit Siberian to the Mongol provinces and states that stretch along the Urals and the Northern Environs.

For every non-Tartar province and state:

First, I'll create a definition here, "Old Altaic." When I use Old Altaic here, I'm referring to all Steppe peoples (predominantly Altaic) that do not appear in CK2. Examples: Alans, Karluks, Cumans, etc.

If an Old Altaic cultured state exists, do nothing with their state cultures or provinces. A Bolghar Khanate that is independant should "protect" the further conversion/melding of all Bolghar provinces.

All Finno-Ugric provinces without a state of their culture should convert to Uralic if they are in Asia.

All Mongol or Turkish states (outside of Turkestan/Khiva to protect Turkmeni) that rule over at least one Mongol cultured province should convert over both at the state culture level, and at the provincial level, to Uzbek. All provinces they have of Old Altaic culture become Uzbek as well.

All Mongol or Turkish states (outside of Turkestan/Khiva to protect Turkmeni) that rule over no Mongol cultured provinces should convert at the state level to Khazak. All of the Old Altaic provinces within their borders should convert to Khazak.

I think this would do a great deal to iron out the seam between CK2 and EU4.

If I could make a request about the localization of tech groups.
Would it be possible to dynamically change the naming of tech groups in the event that there are no western nations?

For example, if Europe is entirely muslim in ck2, there would be no western nations in eu4; all muslim tech nations would become western, but could their localization be changed so that "technology_western" becomes "muslim".

It would be a change in name only, but it would add a tiny bit of flavor. Instead of westernizing, you could "easternize" or "americanize" (high american), for example.

I wish there was a way, but it's not possible to do automatically. :(

Eh, I just started modding and thought I had stumbled upon an idea.

On that topic though; I would be interested in helping out with any grunt-work coding that may need to be done.
I did just return to uni, so my time may become limited at a moment's notice, but coding is a nice way for me to relax.
I would be glad to help if you need it.

Would adding/changing dejure kingdoms mess up the conversion? The reason i ask is because i want to add a titular Novgorod king tier title.

Any way to make the converter handle PUs better? IMO, all holders of multiple king titles should be converted as PUs instead of one homogenous nation.

Not sure if old or already mentioned, but is there a way to make the converter actually convert the names of countries instead of calling them Z##?

Also, when converting KoJ, the idea Crusade Aristocracy(I think that's the name?) that's supposed to give +1 land leader shock doesn't have a description and has a '?' icon. Not sure about effects, or even if this is a glitch of the vanilla converter.

Do you play in non-english? Or mac/linux? That only happens when there is something wrong with the localization, the converter never assigns no name on its own.

Yes, it usually is OS related. Paradox has never been bothered to fix it. IIRC you have to manually convert the localization files to a different format (UTF-8 to be specific.) Either way, this is something the modder has zero control over, it's a PDS related issue so make sure to complain to them about it. Do so especially if you are using a vanilla converter, as they tend to disregard modded game file bug reports (as some issues could be caused by faulty modding coding. I don't blame them for it)

EDIT: http://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum...conversion&p=16248913&viewfull=1#post16248913 this post gives a possible solution
If that doesn't work, try: http://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum...conversion&p=17448436&viewfull=1#post17448436

Official post on the matter: http://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum...mber-names&p=15937387&viewfull=1#post15937387

How to do it in case you don't know: https://docs.moodle.org/24/en/Converting_files_to_UTF-8#Saving_files_directly_as_UTF-8
You need to do this to your .yml files in the localisation folder

I'm no expert but I do think we need a way for these cultures to show up. Can't form Bukhara without Uzbek.
