10191 AG, Guild Heighliner, In orbit above Old Terra
"Are you sure this is a good plan, father? Chartering a private heighliner, forging a manifest, and a stop at an abandoned planet in the middle of nowhere... the bribes alone would cost a fortune! Are you sure we need to..."
A cold voice chimed in over the PA system. "We are now preparing to leave Old Terra, Duke. This could be... disorienting."
"Disorienting?" Paul mused. "We've done this a hundred times, and unless it is a particularly incompetent Navigator, I wouldn't say the space-folding is dis..."
He did not get to finish his sentence, as the ship's artificial gravity suddenly failed, and the entire bulk of the heighliner lurged towards the planet under it. The Navigator's screeching voice was audible even over the din.
AD 1066, Off the coast of Argos
In broad daylight, a giant ball of flame descended upon the surface of the sea. A curtain of steam rose from the giant cylinder that now jutted out from the shallow coast of the Peloponnesos.
As the coastal inhabitants of Argos watched on, a small vessel from that hulking construct slowly approached them.
"We're near an ancient Greek city - Argos." Jessica said. "Some 20,000 years before the Guild. When mankind still thrived on Old Terra."
"Or shall we say, 'subsisted'," remarked Paul, as he surveyed the hovels sprawled along the coast in front of them. "Wait, mother... did you say, Argos?"
"Yes, Argos. Or at least that's what my ancestral memories tell me. Memories from even before this time," Jessica remarked as she calmly stepped on shore to an expectant crowd of on-lookers.
Her eyes flashed dangerously, and her Voice took on an altogether different tone: "The Atreidai have returned!"
