“Paget and his Gibraltar garrison will mobilise to take the adjacent regions. The Armada Española could seriously hinder your advance, as they posses some pretty strong battleships. We have already stationed Boyle and Cork and two minor Chapters near La Coruña to engage the Spanish warfleet. The New Fleet will stay in port. We have managed to keep her secret from foreign intelligence and we intend to keep it this way until they are really needed. It never hurts to keep a rabbit in your hat.”
Van Geyte grinned
“Excellent.”
Halifax stood up furiously
“What travesty is this! Are we an instrument to the Germans? The Gibraltar Garrison can defend the Strait quite effectively, there is no need for a pointless Spanish invasion! Must we go along with these fools their warmongering just because we signed some stupid pact?”
Van Geyte’s look sharpened
“I don’t know who the fuck you think you are, Minister, but this is not your decision. Spain threathens the Pact. Spain will fall.”
Domvile joined the shrieking Foreign Minister
“I am tired of this Channel Pact damn it! British don’t make deals with Jerry scum!”
Mosley raised his hand and the room grew silent
“Enough! Domvile, Halifax, you are relieved of your duties. The Pact’s interest overpowers your own pathetic agenda. Get the hell out of my face before I have both of you shot. I am ashamed of you.”
Domvile and Halifax left the room in a fury, bashing an unfortunate clerk against the wall on their way out. De Nil put down his mug
“So, where were we?”

On June 17, 1941, The Wehrmacht commenced operation Yellow Storm. In a massive invasion, German troops crossed the Pyrenees into Spain. The bordering Nationalist Armies were quickly overwhelmed and Barcelona and Pamplona fell to the first assault wave. After the entire Southern Army group was deployed upwards to meet the German invasion, the newly mobilised Gibraltar Garrison, led by Field Marshall Paget, although outnumbered, quickly overcame the surprised Spanish forces and met a demarcation line along Cádiz and Málaga. The Armada Español managed to distract the Royal Navy’s Home Chapter and escaped to Central-Africa. Boyle and Cork was disgraced by this fatal error, as now the Allied States Fleet had become even larger. The second offensive made short work of the disorganised Spanish armies, and two months later, Germany had achieved total victory. Portugal attempted to aid their Nationalist allies, but was quickly defeated and occupied along with Spain. With the Iberian ports now under German control, Rommel and his 200.000 men Africa Corps were redeployed to Lissabon. Operation Greysand was ready to begin.

The following events took place on June 28, 1941, Casablanca, Morocco (Vichy France)

Field Marshall and Gruppefuhrer of the Afrika korps Erwin Rommel was the first German in years to set foot on African soil. The warm arid sun reflected off the swarm of transports landing on the beaches of Casablanca, working fast to unload troops and equipment for the Africa Campaign. Their mission was to strip the Allies of their ME ports, to clear out the way for the Kriegsmarine for further interventions.
Later on they were tasked to simply annihilate all Allied forces on the continent. Easy enough. Rommel grabbed some desert sand and let it seep through his fingers. He had great plans for the Afrika Korps…

After landing in the Vichy port of Casablanca virtually unopposed, the first weeks of Operation Greysand quickly culminated in a boring drive along the Sahara. The second half of July, however, resistance became increasingly more fierce as Allied forces set up a massive defensive line stretching all the way from Tunisia to Central-Africa.
Vichy France, with it’s capital in Corsica, could not allow the African coast to fall into enemy hands and isolate their most important strategic location.
It was in the heavy fighting for the mountainous forts ofCajèz that Rommel gained the prestigious nickname of Desert Fox. Using the unknown terrain to his own advantage, Rommel’s outnumbered Africa Korps managed to gain victory over victory, eventually smashing the La Peza-line and driving Vichy forces deep into Tunis.
In the final Battle for Tunis the encircled Vichy Expeditionary Forces and the Foreign Legion were smashed into oblivion. The Allies, having sustained dire losses, were forced to retreat back to Central-Africa to escape the advancing Africa Corps. Here, Vichy Head of State and Field Marshall Phillippe Pétain was captured after a fierce firefight with remaining defenders in the city hall of Tunis.

The following events took place on August 3, 1941, Tunis, Tunisia (Vichy)

Pétain pointed his rifle at the door, shaking heavily. The sound of gunfire and screams downstairs probably meant that the bottom floor had fallen. He was alone. Nevermind. He would defend even the last meter of French soil with his life. Suddenly the door knob started moving, as he could hear German screams behind it.
When the locked door didn’t respond, he could hear a faint thump and footsteps quickly running away. Petain moved closer to the door, attempting to take a peek and take out a few bastards before he died.
The grenade exploded almost simultaneously as he touched the door. The large blast flung Pétain through the room, slamming his head into a wooden table. The last thing he saw were fives Germans entering the room, and the stock of a rifle. Then, darkness.

The following events took place on August 16, 1941, Berlin, Germany

Petain opened his eyes, his vision still blurry. He was lying in the center of what appeared to be a large market area, crowded with cheering people and with Reichsbanners hanging from every window.
He was trying to make out a face in the crowd, a large impressive man wearing what seemed to be a Royal Navy beret, when a solid steel-tipped boot in the side kicked him on his back.
The person standing over him couldn’t have been more familiar. In a thousand years, Pétain would never forget that scar and those dead pale blue eyes. He grinned and coughed up some blood.
“It’s always a pleasure to meet you, Field Marshall Van Geyte”
“Shove it, Pétain.”
A second boot in the stomach threw Pétain off with amazing force. He sat up on his knees, leaning heavily as Laurence approached. He grabbed a pistol and aimed it at Pétain
“Twenty-five years ago I swore to God this day would come.” He loaded his weapon “Look around you, Pétain. Hear them cheering. They know. We are winning. Against all odds. Germany is winning”
“You are a fool Laurence. The Kriegsmarine will never *cough* be able to oppose our fleet”
“Don’t worry. We’ve got that all settled. Soon we will invoke the Eight Act. You and your pathetic alliance are counting their final hours.”
“What? But, how…”
“When you arrive up there, be sure to say hi to the thousands you sent to their graves at Verdun. Farewell, Field Marshall Pétain”
“Wait! No!”
Two dull thuds, and the rest was silence. Laurence holstered his weapon and turned towards the cheering crowd.
“Let it be known! For this is the fate of all those who oppose our nation! Germania! Germania! Rule the lands!”. The crowd cheered ecstatically.

Act Five of the Channel Pact

The Channel Pact will remain active until all goals and conditions set forth by the Channel Pact have been fulfilled.
After this, a summit is to decide over the future of the Pact.

In the meanwhile, research on the Eagle Class Carrier was completed, and six carriers of the new type were ordered, in accordance with the Second Fleet Plan

Not much had happened in the weeks following the prestigious execution of Philippe Pétain. An attempted Vichy landing in Norway was quickly pushed back by the stationed German Forces, and while losing massive ground in Central-Africa with no pétain to lead the nation, Vichy was on the brink of collapse. In a last ditch effort, Vichy forces, combined with Allied reinforcements, built a defensive line along the African rainforests, digging deep in the jungle to hold off the Afrika Korps.
Rommel his valiant desert tactics proved useless in this new terrain, and the Afrika Korps was unable to break their defensive, resulting in a stalemate. For the first time in two years of German warfare, their advance had been halted. Suffering from a severe morale drop, Germany turned it’s attention to other dangerous elements near it’s borders that could be destroyed easily to restore faith in the Wehrmacht.

Germany turned it’s attention to Yugoslavia. Essentially a state loyal to the USSR, it could become a problem in the event of a war with the Communists. The decision was made quickly.

The defending Yugoslavian armies stood no chance, as a massive onslaught of heavy mechanized german forces invaded them from all directions. The defensive line was quickly broken, and within two weeks the Wehrmacht had reached Belgrade. The Yugoslav People's Army fought on valiantly, but three weeks later a final German offensive smashed the vital cities of Beograd, Skopje and Banja Luka, effectively cleaning out what was left of the Yugoslavian armies.

Italy and Scandinavia where now the only remaining free countries in Europe. German agression had pushed tensions between the Fasicst empire and other great powers to boiling point, as more and more nations were prepared to join the Allied States. In the same week of the Yugoslavian annexation, both the US and the USSR shut their embassies in Berlin, and Germany was faced with an embargo from the ruling power in Asia, the Japanese Empire. Along the Indian border, the good relations between England and Germany made way for several hefty border clashes.

The most important of these became the battle of Sibsagar, where a small fishermen's village in the east of the British Ray suddenly became the battleground of a massive clash between Japanese and British forces, both sustaining over 1.000 casualties in the battle. Relations between the US, Japan and the British Empire quickly deteriorated, none of the three were ready to make concessions regarding the new naval arms race, and the UK was widely criticized for Mosley's autocratic rule and it's pro-German policy.

Many historians and analyticists compared the rapidly shifting balance of powers to the one before the Great War. It soon became clear that a second World War was inevitable. The only question now was, who would fight on which side?

Act Six and Seven of the Channel Pact
If political tensions threathen the future of any nation in the Channel Pacy, a joint summit is to be held in the British Capital to decide on the future of the Channel Pact. Several terms will have to be met before this summit can occur

I've noticed that the Commonwealth is no longer tied to Britain, is this going to be explained in time?
The Commonwealth you speak of does not exist in our timeline, so to say ;). right now the mayor power blocs would be:
-The German Empire
-The British Empire and puppets
-The Cominterm (as normal)
-The American League (US & several South-American States. This League will play a vital role in the story later on)
-The enlarged Japanese Empire (dominating SE Asia and China, and at this point in the story holder of the most modern fleet. the RN is bigger, but outdated.)
-The Allied States: Currently the complete Entente without the United Kingdom. France is basically the leader of the world's strongest alliance. Let's just say that the link between France and the liberated British Colonies, fascist tendencies in Britain, the rise to power of Mosley and the signing of the Channel Pact play a large role in the story.

We hope you guys keep hanging on, because we've got a lot of stuff coming your way :) : Murder, betrayal, political games, exile and of course the return of some old familiars. Things start off quite doozy, I admit, but this part of the story was written over a year ago so might differ in tone from what is to come. After the chapters "Black sand, Rising sun" and "Escalation", anything can happen.

In other news, we managed to fix our LAN problems and we're continuing the production of the AAR this weekend! :p.

Cheers

Chapter III: The beginning of War

-------

The following events took place August 15th, 1941, London, United Kingdom

Everyone in the conference hall was tired. They had been discussing for nine hours straight. Nontheless, they were closing to a conclusion. Mosley nodded
“What’s the current state of readiness of the British army?”
De Nil was the first to respond
“The Colonial Forces have assembled at all key locations, garrisons have been set up all over the British Isles for defence, the Royal Marines have been sent to Singapore to undertake operations into the Pacific, they will be supported by the Indomitable, Eagle and Dubious Task Forces. The rest of the RN is ready to clear out the Mediterranean when ordered.”
“De Nil, I've had too much coffee to count the numbers right now. Sum that up for me."

“The British Empire is prepared for elongated extensive warfare. Invoke the Eight Act”
Mosley shivered. From the other side of the table, Field Marshall Van Geyte responde.
“The time has come. The Allies have stopped us in Central-Africa and are still attempting to man counteroffensives. Without the Royal Navy to guard the seas the Wehrmacht is unable to make any more progress.”

Mosley stood up and looked out of the window. The decision he was now forced to make bore down upon him as a heavy burden. At his fingertips now lied the power he has longed for his entire life, the power to take back what was rightfully British. The power to cleanse away the shamefull defeats of the Colonial Wars, and get revenge on the pityfull Allied States. He clenched his fists together. But now that the hour had finally come to make the decision, the hour in which he had to sign the Eight Act, was he prepared? Would anyone, in his position, be prepared? Undisputedly, his autograph would mark the beginning of a long period of suffering and strife for everyone in the world. The decision was his to unleash the Second World War. To wager everything he had. Everything his country had. It would take a madman to lead an empire. But then again, in a mad world, only the mad are sane. Mosley spoke, still staring out of the window omniously. He spoke softly, as if the hums of his voice threaded on fragile soil. But his decision had already been made.

“We will never forget the humiliating defeat we suffered in the last World War. Our once-proud Empire crumbled to the vile French and their devices. I will never forgive that day. You are right, Laurence. The time has come for the Empire to take back what is rightfully hers.”

Oswald Mosley, Prime Minister of the British Empire turned around, speaking to the conference hall with dark eyes
“Invoke the Eight Act. England goes to war.”

Act Eight of the Channel Pact – (The Prime act, Act of the Pact)
If, for any reason, a state of war is to come into existence between the nations participating in the Channel Pact and the Allied states of France, Australia, South-Africa, New Zealand and Canada that would threaten the national sovereignty of any nation in the Channel Pact, the Eight Act will be invoked. The Channel Pact will then serve as a binding military alliance between all nations of the Channel Pact. The Channel Pact will not dissolve until total victory has been achieved.
Long live the glorious bond of nations!

On the 15th of August, 1941, at 13:00 hour GMT, the United Kingdom and all it’s Crown Dependencies declared war upon the Allied States, and then entered a military alliance with Germany, known as the Channel Pact. In response, Turkey and Italy, now both threathened by a beligerent alliance near their border, declared war upon the Channel Pact and joined the Allied States. Two days later, Emperor Hirohito of the Japanese Empire declared war upon the Channel Pact and aligned with the Allies. The British inclusion in the war had now snowballed the Allies-German conflict into a war encompassing fronts on all continents:
The battle for the Pacific between Japan and England, the battle for India between the Japanese puppets and England, the European War between Turkey, Italy and Germany, the African War between the Afrika Korps, the British Colonial Forces and the Allied States Africa Expeditionary Force and the War for Newfoundland between Canada and the UK.

The Second World War had begun.
