TheEnlighted1- Africa is far from mine but at least I know have a hold on the Med. More detailed info on the update I am about to post.

intruder alert- I am somewhat near to upgrading my troops but I have prioritized air forces and only command/artillery units. I still have quite a number of '39 infantry right now. At least I finally rid of the last of the '36 ;) As for my build ... well... let's wait for a soon to be posted update and you will see :)

To everyone : I have been somewhat experimental with this Italian game. I have done several world conquests but I did not go the same path. Partly because I am testing some new strategies and partly because I am role playing. You see, Mussolini has this awesome dream but, he isn't entirely sure how to go about it. He will have epiphanies as he goes along you see...

Thanks again for reading and now it's time for an update !

Benito is making plans for his next offensive when suddenly a messenger enters his study with a stack of reports. "Sir, we just received these and I brought them to you immediately!"

n32bdl.png

It seems Iraq has shaken off its British puppet government and taken up Fascism as it's new ideal. Mussolini smiles broadly as he realizes this closes off one angle of attack from the Allied forces he had been worried about. A new ally join the Axis and the foolish British pretend to protect the Greek country. Iraq is now Fascist and is allowing German and Italian troops military access. Perhaps we will use that but there are more important issues at hand. Soon Il Duce will be laughing in the streets of Athens...

In Africa, Graziani is forced to change his tactics thanks his leader's request. He is positive his offensive cannot hold for much longer. He utilizes what he has and makes some advance landings to cut off the remaining Allied forces.

fwh9ps.png

Back in Rome, Benito finalizes his attack plans and sends a diplomat to the Yugoslavian embassy with orders to clear out of his apartment...

mokdf.png

Let the fools join the Allies for it shall do them no good whatsoever. They are cutoff from any aid. Thanks to aid from the nearby allies and some fast moving troops from up north in Germany, the Yugoslavian's days of independence are soon to end. It is their time to join with the empire. Romania had joined the Axis following their invasion by the Soviet army, now Bulgaria joins as war is declared on Yugoslavia. They too foresee the future of the Europe and the world.

fazzir.png

They are quickly contained and surrounded. They fall quickly...

69l2xx.png

Once again the British test our defenses in Spain but this time they will hold!

20qie6t.png

Their research facilities are raided and promptly put to work helping their new masters. Meanwhile, in Japan, some striking news hits...

10dwlef.png

It seems the Fascist ideal is beginning to take hold in many places. Perhaps they too have been visited by the dream or maybe they have seen the happiness and success of the new Italian Empire.

June 4th, 1941:
The Italian ambassador in Moscow has been unhappy with this assignment since it began. He knew Italy needed the abundant supplies available from the Russians but that did not make his job any easier. Today he moves with a bounce in his step and packs up his belongings. Once they are sent ahead, he carries an important message to the Kremlin. He notices today is not particularly busy and no one seems rushed to do anything. He notes that as odd and asks to see the Russian ambassador. Of course, the staff member he needs to see is not available but, the matter is pressed. After a long time waiting, he is allowed to see him.

"I bring this letter in response to the earlier visit from the German ambassador." The Russian looks at him rather curiously and replies, "We have had no visits today from Germany but, I have heard that both you and they have been seen moving from your residences. I am curious what this is about." The envelope is handed over and the Italian excuses himself. He will not wait around to see the reaction. He too is curious why there had been no visit from the German contingent but, no matter. His orders were plain. Pack your bags and deliver this message. As he is leaving the building he hears some doors slam and much yelling taking place. Apparently they read the message. He quickly gets in the car waiting to leave Moscow, hopefully for good. To spend some time in the green lands of Tuscany once again will be a welcome distraction from living with these unlikeable people.

In Rome, the Greek ambassador is paid a visit as well. He is not allowed to leave however but he is ordered to send a telegram...

k19o9c.png

Il Duce worried much about making these announcement but he knew that Hitler would do this with, or without him. He will not give Hitler any reasons to be angry with him at this time. Benito has seen the armies amassed by the Fuhrer in a few short years. Italy could not likely withstand that at this time. However, it seems we are much closer to regaining what was once the land of the Romans. He looks forward to visiting Athens and seeing some of the history there. Strict orders are given to his commanders to delay their attack on the city for his personal attendance.

2hrg5xz.png

The attack was begin in broad daylight, to afford the best view for Il Duce. tactically this was no sound but it was well know they stood no chance to resist. In less than a day the fight was concluded and Il Duce wandered the streets of Athens. Laughing the entire time...

Immediately following the capture of Greece, some transports are headed to the Eastern Med. There is another target that must be taken...

23r0ktj.png

Benito senses a small bit of remorse as the tiny nation puts up a valiant fight against overwhelming forces. They would not fight for long but, Il Duce will reward their most valiant commanders if they should wish to join the ranks of the officers willingly. Officers that can command such bravery should be studied and rewarded.

On the Russian front, immediately following the declaration of war, it was reported that they were moving the mobile manufactories much further east. It will do them no good... the Germans have brought many tanks with awesome speed to crush their resistance. He receives many comments from his officers about the effectiveness of the German mass tank strategy. Something that will have to be considered in Italy's future perhaps? Perhaps...

11qh2k0.png

The USA seems to be firmly non-interventionist. A good thing for the Axis.

30c7fo6.png

Il Duce reviews more reports and wonders at how to best remedy the shortcomings of his empire. There is no easy solution so, more staff is brought on to better plan for the future. Luck has been on the side of Italy so far but, that cannot and will not last.

Nice AAR! I've been enjoying it very much.

Just one thing though. Are you really going to release Austria and Hungary?? I thought you only said all that so you could fool them. After all, only the Italian way of Fascism is the right one!

+ The people there are happy with the Italians, all you have to do is kill the hidding Generals when the time comes and voilá, Europe will be yours!

this

is excellent

this was exactly the massive med blitz i was envisioning. though i'm not sure i would have suggested a surprise attack on the soviets ahead of hitler...

good job keeping gibralter.

the rest is a mop-up operation. after that is done, do some basic consolidation and then send up a massive army against them soviets!

go to soviet union by way of turkey )))

First, let me apologize for some last minute edits on my last update. I posted it very late and my eyes were beginning to droop. Bad time to proofread anything :) With that said, I don't expect this to be a writing masterpiece but, I will do my best to avoid run-on sentences and horrible grammar
Also, I do not write my story in advance. I fight the war, often doing things I never/rarely do, take snap shots and make up the story as time goes along. The only thing I have in mind for the story is three things: The beginning, the middle, and the end. Since my tactics are certainly not considered perfect, I am unsure if I will win and see the end I desire but, I will try!

carmen510- Salute!

The Balbinater-
though i'm not sure i would have suggested a surprise attack on the soviets ahead of hitler...
If you carefully read the story, the Germans SHOULD have already sent their declaration. I was simply role playing the AI weakness when the game goes ahistorical. I refuse to sit idle waiting until '43 or later for the USSR to DOW and steamroll us. So, I made sure the Germans had adequate troops on the Soviet border and war has begun. Besides, technically, wasn't the historical DOW on USSR surprise anyways ? :)

Elidioemperor- I have every intention of releasing both Hungary and Italy. The thing is, do I release them right now while war is brewing? I fully expect their leaders to begin to demand independence soon enough, the question is, how long will they keep it ? :D Regardless of when or how they gain independence. I will NOT keep the cores on the areas. In a very soon to come update, you will see how/why this happens.

P.S. I am wondering if I should load as Germany and invite Japan to the Axis. They were not invited to the Tri-Partite Pact so I am not sure this is best.

Im wondering if you're still thinking of taking on GER.

Allying w/ JAP will certainly net you some sweet blueprints.

intruder alert- certainly adding Japan to the alliance would make sense for reasons of the blueprints but, Germany only did the Tri-Partite Pact for GER and ITA. Based on that, for role playing purposes, it seems Germany doesn't care for Japan. However, Japan is getting hurt by more or less fighting the world solo. With their Fascist government, Italy is sympathetic. As for fighting Germany later, I have every intention of doing so. Thing is, I cannot fight them till the current war has ended.

Elidioemperor- Understand this is a story and a game where I modded events and *gave myself* those territories. That must be considered as well as the fact that had I not added those events, the best I could hope for was owning those territories with no cores. We shall see how the story unfolds...

Thanks everyone for reading :) Time for an update!

The new Soviet front saw much action with some fair progress. Certainly the Soviets are fighting much harder than the Germans said they would. Il Duce finds himself wondering how dependable the German intelligence is these days. The way they talked in the meetings, the Soviets were a disorganized bunch of militia that would run scared from any organized troops. They have proven to be far more than a disorganized bunch of militia but, battle hardened troops they are not. Nonetheless, a fair bit of territory is taken from them in the early months of the war.

fbmd0h.png

The Soviets hold more than twice of land mass than Germany, Italy, Bulgaria, and Romania combined. If this war was to be won, faster progress needs to be made. Italy sends is most experienced troops to the front to help at the northern front where the Russians seem to be thickest.

Meanwhile, the British once again meddle in the affairs of others and force a coup in Persia...

oiuezl.png

Both the British and Soviets gain from this new puppet government. This is to be considered for the future, should the entire world unite again the Axis, this war may have a dreadful outcome.

Slow but steady progress is made in the south against the Soviets while in the north, even with Italy's most experienced troops, the Soviets prove a most difficult enemy to uproot.

qxnfi9.png

In Asia, Japan has not done that well yet, their leaders make a bold move...

14kwt8n.png

They make an attempt to knock the USA out of the war before they can truly get involved. The wisdom of their decision remains to be seen...

eqwej5.png

Il Duce now has more worries than he wants to think about. With the sleeping giant, the USA, awakened, their entry into the European war seems inevitable. His fears are realized even sooner than seems possible...

2mo6l42.png

Benito summons his military staff to plan something new, something unexpected. His intelligence staff gave him some reports he didn't make much of at the time but now, those reports are a possible way to victory. It seems Italy has been reactive for most of this ever growing war, it is past time she was proactive. A bold plan is devised... Hitler and his Nazis are only told a small bit of the plan, the part that requires them to clear some port facilities in Cherbourg. In the very early morning, in December of '41, something is done which has not been done since the days of the Roman empire...

k0snio.png

The waters between Germany and England were full of ships and the skies were full of planes but, the speed at which the attack occurs amazes even the Italians. More and more troops are sent across the channel to quickly seize the homelands of the British before they can defend it. They have been sending the bulk of their troops overseas for this war, now that should prove to be their undoing!

All the troops that can be spared are sent to rapidly occupy the British mainland. In quick succession, one province after another is taken. Only Stornoway and the Ireland provinces remain by early January...

21ch4jo.png

The victory is bittersweet however, for the other war fronts are suffering from little progress being made. In Africa, spare troops were pulled and a defensive line was formed south of Cairo. The British and their allies are quickly retaking the provinces south of Cairo with fairly large numbers of troops...

15wjln6.png

In Russia, the bitter winter and muddy terrain have helped the front barely move, except in the favor of the Russians to the south...

35ic0eb.png

In Asia, the Japanese still struggle with China while they are slowly reaching out to other territories owned by the British and Dutch...

dgj91g.png

With England and Scotland secured, all spare troops are sent from the British invasion back to the Russian front to the north. The pressure must be relieved from the Finns and the Soviets must pay dearly to hold those lands.

Back in Rome, a conference is held with the Armaments minister. Benito shows his disgust with the slow pace at which his troops have been armed and outfitted with new equipment. To resolve the situation, many new factories are ordered to be constructed. His advisers protest this decision but he has an iron resolve. Their short sightedness allowed the industrial base to grow too slowly, now it is time to change that course. It is hoped these new industries will support new troops being trained and older troops being outfitted quicker. It is also hoped, it is not too late to have them built...

2d6o845.png

These last few months have been difficult and confounding for Benito. Many successes are witnessed but none have been a total success. Even the British managed to relocate their capitol to their Indian lands and still produce armaments. Somehow, someway, a more decisive blow must be made against one of their opponents before the war is lost.

Carlito Gambino- Thanks! it was surprisingly easy since they only had one Inf division per beach. Dang AI needs to fortify better. Its funny how they are still mass producing armies in India though... no surprises there I suppose... heh

I have now played well into 1943 and have pics saved. Once I get some more responses, or another day or so has passed, I will post the next update. I must say, this AAR has been much more interesting than my normal games because I am not trying to do everything perfectly. It's rather tough to pretend not to know about upcoming events, nation strengths, etc. I am sure I cannot totally ignore my game knowledge but I have been trying to damper my foresight at least to some extent :)

Von Perkele- there should be more interesting stuff posted here soon enough. Welcome to the AAR :)

Delex- I am sorry that you missed the point of this AAR. It is a story first, a game second. If it was the other way around, I would have used better tactics and a proper build queue. This has been a game of experimentation and fun. All for the purpose of writing a story about Italy. Besides, just because I have finally added Japan to the Axis does NOT mean I will win the war. I have no clue if I will win this!! It simply adds a new front for the Soviets to worry about. I promise you this, following this AAR I intend to make another Italian one, this time with firm tactics, no modded events. It will be Italy vs. the AI, may the best strategy or luckiest roller win  BTW- Welcome to the AAR, your Ruskies may see victory yet!

I have some things to do around the house today and should post a little update later this evening :)

now if i may i would like to add a small correction )))

the last crossing of the english channel was not done by the romans, but by the normans in 1066, though certainly the romans accomplished the same feet, during the reign of the emperor claudius...

who says classical educations are worthless? hehe

Then your classical education should remind you that, history is written by the victors. So if Il Duce says this hasn't been done since the early days of the Roman Empire, IT MUST BE TRUE :p

Then again, I still haven't won so who knows what history will say!

P.S. I am back to school myself and we studied the Bayuex tapestry so I was aware of this. Also, after the Romans crossed, the Anglo-Saxons and others did so as well :) This is MY story and MY Il Duce !
