Glasgow, 1710
"Sire. the Bretons clamor for our aide. The French are, for lack of a better term, attempting to Frenchify them. French is the only language allowed to be spoken and their Gaelic customs are outlawed."
"This bode ill and we must take action soon. We'll need more men and fast."
"Mercenaries?"
"Certainly, the royal coffers are plentiful enough."
"The Royal Scots are ready at your call and the 1st Fleet stands ready to transport them across the Channel."
"We shall land in Morihban, it's not as fortified as Armor or Bretagne."
"Of course, sire, it will be done."
"A second army will need to be raised, I imagine the French won't give up without a fight."
"I'd suppose not."
"After the first army lands, release the navy to destroy any French ships encountered until we need the second army."
"Of course. What of Nova Scotia?"
"Stadacone will prove most difficult to take though we should try. To think they built a bloody mighty fortress there in the godrotten wilderness."
"It's a trading hub for all French colonies in the Americas, they defend it well."
"Hopefully it will fall as well..."
Nantes, 1710
"It's a bit o luck we havint seen no French."
"You sound yeller to me. What're ya, 'fraid o tha French?"
"Be glad we gots us a siege to worry about or I'd be kickin' yer arse, lad!"
"Ha, yer welcome ta try. Anyways, why all this fuss o'er these French?"
"Wer liberatin' 'em. More French for Scotland, methinks."
"Well, I guess ya can't hav too many, huh?"
"True, true. Now hand me that powder, we've a siege to finish!"
Present day, Glasgow
"Well, 1710 saw Scotland embarking on it's first offensive war in Europe since Angland so many years ago. Gaelic Brittany was the cause so Scotland said. Honestly, the reason dint much matter, this showdown was a long time comin.'"
"Why's that?"
"To see who the biggest dog on the block is, so to speak, I suppose." France was the dominate power on the Continent and Austria was just behind. Luckily, they were not allied and France was fighting alone while all Scotish allies answered the call.
The landings went off without a hitch and Spain fought an aggressive colonial war as well as a strong offense into Southern France. Venice worked on reducing Istria and Lithuania mostly sat out which was ok considering her losses against the Austrians.
Morihban fell swiftly to assault and the army moved to Bretagne as the army fell back to Brest allowing the plains to be open, hoping to suck the French into advancing. It wasn't to be but Brest fell swiftly enough was well. Armor was next with it's medium fortress. The French chose this time to strike but they were utterly destroyed. Stadecone was also besieged but a foolish assault led to the entire besieging armies destruction. Those were mistakes Scotland could do without. France continued to attack Armor and Scotish troops held true. Crushing naval victories were achieved throughout the Channel and soon the French navy was bottled up in Caen.
The victories continued and a second army was landed in Brittany which swiftly moved to Maine. This would prove disasterous and French cavalry, some 30,000 strong destroyed that army but to balance that, Armor fell.
Spain chose this moment to dash taking Micmac, St Thomas and Dominica for peace.
It looked that Spain had left us in the lerch especially when the French refused of peace demands. The tide was turning and not in Scotland's favor but then a miracle happened and France offered Bretagne, Armor and Morihban to Scotland and Istria to Venice in return for peace. Scotland was lucky this time and learned that no enemy is as weak as you might think they are. Even with the reverses at the end, Scotland was instantly thrust unto the world stage. They had bested the Bourbon giant."
"Wow, but Brittany is on the continent, however did we hold them at bay?"
"Fortress, lad, fortresses plus fairly quick supply lines via the navy."
"Oh, I see. You think Scotland would have won if the war hadn't anded so soon?"
"Things were looking pretty bad. Scotland might have won but it would have been a much more difficult war."
"I bet we would have lost."
"Why do you say that for?"
"I dunno, after hearing all of these Scotland stories and how bad we have been it seems like we didn't deserve to win."
"History is history, there is no reason to get upset about the past. It's more important to look toward the future..."
