I'm trying to work the cages at the moment as I started up a Medium security prison. Played the game a lot back in the day so don't normally struggle, but my god. Put the gang settings up just a tiny bit and put on the extra traits modifier. Prison is only 220 people but its like some free for all, 5 deaths is a good day, 10 an average. And they're not really lacking anything, besides being in dorms. The gangs are just tearing people apart. Well that and half the inmates seem to have strength and lethality modifiers haha.
But anyway, so I made a high sec part of the prison with 20 cells to try and target the lead trouble makers, whether gang leaders or just the most insane murderous riot inducing folks. More or less going well but they wont seem to use their single use yards, cages. Each prisoner has a cell, with a remote door leading into a cage. But they wont use it. They wont use it during yard or free time. I've some some people say its only designed for peope on permanent solitary or lockdown, is this the case?

Anyone have a firm grasp of the mechanics? Haha. I desperately need a workable solution to locking these physcos away from gen pop where they cant stack up any more bodies (permanent solitary/lockdown isent 100% ideal as gangs ratchet up the boiling point when you punish their officers IIRC?)

The cage is for yard time while the prisoner is under lockdown or solitary. It won't be used autonomously be regular prisoners.

Ah ok, so if I just use the lawyer and unlock permanent punishment I can take the hit and house them in permanent 'solitaries' and their own yard to keep them pliant. That works, had a feeling it might be that. Ta

It doesn't have to be connected to solitary or the cell at all. Guards will automatically escort the prisoners during yard time. You can see in the attached gif or by checking out this tweet with the gif about the new rooms
