Though it is true you cannot please everyone, I disagree with the notion of the "never happy crowd".
There are significant design decisions that have been taken that have incrementaly sucked some fun out of the game.
While taken individually it is often easy to understand the underlying factor for these changes such as balance, late game and historical accuracy
there is one factor that often seems to take a backseat, and that is fun.
EU3 was less historic, poorly balanced and had next to no late game, but it sure was a whole lot more fun, and I find myself returning to it. Same with CK2.
EU4 quite clearly the most constricted Paradox game to date, and I think that is very reasonable to be bummed out about that.
