Chapter 7: Tink, 1479-1488, part 9
1485 had been easy on Tink. His new King had spent most of it off on maneuvers with the RBI. On the day before the anniversary of the death of King Sulaymân, Tink left the capital. He went off to a small cabin a few miles from the capital.
That night, Tink climbed a small hill near his cabin. On top of the hill was a large field, bare of trees. There, the advisor to the King sat alone to welcome the New Year. He slowly sipped some rice wine and thought over his years with Sulaymân.
Dawn came early. 1486 came in very quiet on that lonely hill in the country. Tink awake several hours before dawn. He made his way back to his office and was sitting at his desk (aka rock) when the sun came over the horizon.
An advisor peeked his head into Tink's office and wanted to know if he would see the ambassador from Vientiane.
"Send him in, send him in. Greetings, H'ungTsi-ting, greetings. How are my old friends in the great land of Vientiane?"
"M'Liege, the King has passed. His son has been graced by Vishnu to lead us for years to come. The new king is named La Sene T'ai."
"Well, tell Las Enty that I wish him well and if he ever needs a favor, he has only to ask."
"M'Liege, I do have a favor to ask. My nation has been producing Chossa Dishu, known as CD's for short. We have found a way to make them using a new technique, know as bootlegging. We would like to work with you to make these CD's to barter for goods with China to the North."
"Sounds like a great idea." OOC: Monopoly Company formed.
The great CD scheme began almost at once. Unfortunately, the affair was an utter disaster on the Vientiane side. It was so bad, in fact, that Vientiane saw their entire economy collapse. Things fell so far that on February 16, the La Sene T'ai was forced to bend his knee to the King of Dai Viet.
So ended the marketing of CD's.
1486 passed. 1487 also moved swiftly.
In March, the Manchu signed a peace treaty with Nippon. In this treaty, they agreed to give Nippon the vast sum of their treasury for peace.
That day, the treasurer from Manchu gave the treasurer from Nippon a small sack.
With all of 36 gold.
For peace.
In August, the aborted marriage between Brunei and Pegu was consummated when Tink offered to send the Pegu king the same amount that Manchu was forced to give to Nippon.
On September 10, the Ambassador from China asked to see Tink. He was shown in at once with NO delay (this was China after all).
"Brunei advisor. I have no time for names. I come to announce that the Imperial throne has passed on to a new King. His name is Hongchi. All praise him."
Tink never said a word. However, he did go to see the King at once since any news from China was news of the utmost importance.
On November 1, the King arrived back in the capital. He had a grin on his face from ear to ear.
"Advisor, come celebrate with me. My hard work has paid off. I have discovered new technology for our mighty navy. Eat. Drink. Be merry."
Thus ended 1487.
OOC: Sorry for the slow years. Things are moving. The way this game was played between the two of us 10 years at a time had one side effect. We both tended to be less active for the last year or two of each ten-year period.
