Prologue
part 2​

1071 was the time for Egil to get married and his father found him the perfect wife.

Egil was only sixteen and he had for long suffered from illness and he had failed the army exams.

Chapter 1: Holy War

The first son of Egil and Nest was born in 1072 and was named Joakim.

But for Egil the welsh woman wasnt enough and whenever he had the chance to catch a pretty wench he used the opportunity and soon the court was full of bastards.

The men who had helped Egil to set up a nice county and a palace after his father had been slain were now asking for their money back. To keep the people happy Egil had no choice than to pay them.

Egil also wanted to keep the relations to the Pope and the Holy seat as good as possible and he soon appointed the first bishop of Bornholm.

In 1074 Svend the second son of Egil and Nest was born.

Year later the Pope called an crusade against Egypt to free the holy city of Alexandria. Egil had no interest on going to Egypt but instead he had laid his eyes on Courland and the pagans there and soon he sailed to Kurs to liberate it from the Pagan overlords.

What, the one that goes out, get wasted, brings home some random chick, indulges, and then randomly the kid has another brother or sister. Yep, the perfect father.

Egil assaulted Kurs with his armies, the battle was going well until Egil saw an opening in the pagan line and rushed towards it. Before his bodyguards could act Egil was pierced by an pagan spear. The news reached Bornholm and without thinking the council crowned Joakim as the heir to avert any civil disobedience.

But Joakim had no say in the state matters and the county was ruled by the council who started spending huge amounts of gold on the Crusaders.

While returning from the victorious battle of Kurs, Marshall Ture Marsvin(Guinea Pig) met an army of mercenary Saracens who he recruited by promising lots of gold for them if they would join Bornholm.

The Teutons saw that Bornholm was trying to convert the pagans in Kurs and they decided to lend them hand.

Bornholmian council didn't hesitate to join the Holy War when King of Denmark asked it. Anything that could bring glory to bornholm was on their agenda but glory once again meant spending of gold.

Bornholmian armies, mostly made out of mercenaries joined the siege of Alexandria with the rest of the crusader army.

After the war ended Joakim was made the Duke of Bornholm, though the council decided to move the capital to Lettigallia and leave Joakim to Castle Bornholm. Very prestigious marriage was arranged between Joakim and Alfhild.

Holy War continues​

After the victory in Egypt Joakim wanted to continue in the north against the finnic pagans. His dream was to gain control of every island in the eastern seas.

The pope called off the crusade when the french had beaten last of the muslim warriors in Alexandria.

The pagans in Ösel were soon defeated and one more island was added to the Duchy of Bornholm.

But the King of Denmark wanted the help of Bornholm against the Norwegians and Duke Joakim was happy to send the new pagan armies to fight against the Norse invaders.

The bastard brother of Joakim, Ulf was married to the stewardes of Kingdom of Germany.

A new crusade was called, this time to liberate the Holy Land. Joakim was forced to join the crusade as his advisors spoke too well for the cause and Joakim even paid for the crusade.

In 1089 war was declared against the Emirate of Jerusalem to free the Holy Land.

Back in Bornholm, Ulf murdered an member of the royal court but there were no evidence against him so Joakim was forced to let him go free.

The first Bornholmian armies arrived at Jaffa and catched the muslims off guard.

Back in North there were trouble with outlaws but as soon as they were punished the problems faded away.

Some of the nobles who had moved to Jerusalem and the Holy Land wanted to start converting the heathens to the true faith and Joakim was more than happy to help them.
