Well, I did not succeed in moving units from ghost province to the real world.

I created a ghost province, linked it with Kustrin next to Berlin using the file adj-defs.csv (creating a link between the two provinces) such as :

From;To;Type;Through;Comment
2607;308;Canal;0;Vatican

An event gave Vatican an infantry (which can be seen in the division screen), I declared war as Germany to Vatican, but after a while no Vatican unit invades Kustrin.

I guess I'm wrong somewhere with the adj-def. I reloaded as Vatican and I cannot move the unit to Kustrin or somewhere else.

Do you have any idea where I'm wrong ?

After careful analysis, I now post my results. First, kudo's to Alexander for finding this. Second, I have successfully created a government called Vatican. Loaded it as a seperate nation, and even Played the Vatican on reload:

I was not, however, able to attack anything with my armies, even though I created a path to province Kustrin. I also utilized the 'through' field in an attempt to go around the program. This failed. I attempted to Rebase my air force to Paris, after dragging them into the war. The game froze. Not ctd... merely frozen. I have come to the conclusion that no military capabilities may exist for these 'off-map' nations. The only way to move units from the off-map province to the real map is to use the f12 'Teleport' command:

Which worked remarkably well (yes... I used the swiss as boiler plate for the Vatican).

I believe that there are multiple editors now out for EU2 able to mod the map itself. I completely forgot that adjacency definitions were pretty much hardcoded (other than the type), so yes, you're completely right, there's no way for unit to move back and forth between "physical" world and the ghost provinces. Not much of a problem if you ask me, but it's useful to know the limitations of a concept.

Hi - just thought I'd revive this thread with the following question:

I've put an offmap country in the alpha version of the Kaiserreich mod (The SPD in province 1168), but it causes a harmless but irritating 'Scenario Files had errors' message.

Has anyone managed to create a ghost-country without getting this message?

I think it has something to do with the xxx.eug file in the scenario folder.

Is your country present from the start or does it appear after the beginning ?

Yeah, it's present from the start - the tag (DDR) is in the selectable countries list.

EDIT: Okay, managed to get it working properly - I hadn't changed all the information in the province.csv - done this now, and no error message!

I'm now having a bit of trouble activating more provinces to use for off-map countries. I copied Alexander Sell's province 2607 data into the province.csv file to use for the DDR tag, and this now works fine. But, if I true to change any other of the hidden provinces to 'clear' terrain type in Europe and put countries on them, I get an error message on loadup.

Does anyone know exactly how the province.csv file needs to be changed to get around this?

Sure. I've found a site with many pictures of cardinals... now I'm trying to find alternative Fascist, Nazi, or Left-wing potential popes for after Pius XI dies.

Many thanks, the Papal info would be great!

My game doesn't freeze when I add the new countries - just a slightly annoying message pops up while its loading, saying that the 'Scenario files had errors'. You can ignore this and the play the game normally, but it is a bit irritating!

The only way I've managed to get round this is by copying exacly AlexanderSell's info for province 2607 and using that as the phantom nation's home province. However, editing the other provinces and giving them to other countries leads to the message!

Have you tried right-clicking on the scenario's .eug file to deselect the read-only box? They generally are editable, and it's not too tricky to enter new selectable countries into it. You just need to:

1) Put the country's tag in the 'selectable = {' section (at the top of the file)
2) Put a link to the .inc file at the bottom (ieg. 'include = "scenarios/1938/<<papacy>>.inc")

I'm trying to create such a ghost country and it looks hopeless. I've created an u10.inc file and I've put information about it to campaing .eug file.
I've also chosen province 2607 and have changed the entries as Alexander Seil posted. I've even make connection to Kustrin province as fabmp posted.
The country is selectable but the scenario won't load. I'm waiying for several minutes and nothing. No CTD no errors. It's looks like it stuck.
Could somebody post how the .inc file should look, please? Maybe there is a problem.

Make sure all the brackets in the new .inc file are correct!

The only times I've ever got this error is when I've missed a close bracket ('}') right at the end of the .inc file - if you forget this one, then the game won't load and also won't give you any error messages, so you need to ALT-CTRL out to get out.

But right now I can't see propaganda poster. I've added one to data folder and when I'm selecting country I can't see it.

But right now I can't see propaganda poster. I've added one to data folder and when I'm selecting country I can't see it.

Odd - what is the TAG and what is the poster's name?

(The name of the propaganda poster file should be 'propaganda_<<TAG>>', and it needs to be a .bmp file 256x211)

If everything else fails, what you need to do is make the tag one of the default selectable countries in the .eug file, and put the following lines in:

<<TAG>>= {

picture = "scenarios\data\<<Poster file name>>.bmp"
}

What this does is overrides the default poster selection, and makes the one specified in the 'picture' link show up instead (You can see actual examples of this being done in most of the vanilla battle scenario .eug files).

I'm using U10 tag and I've named it propaganda_u10.bmp (it is renamed polish propaganda poster).

To be honest I make this for CORE (I'm planning to create poland in exile)
And when i put that file to mod dir scenarios/data folder - the game don't see it, but when i put it to vanilla scenarios/data folder then it's OK.
Maybe I've to change something in some other files?

The idea of "ghost countries" is just brilliant, I hope we manage to persuade guys form CORE to implement this thing in the mod.
