I thought it would be appropriate to raise this formally in the bug-reports forum after seeing this occur around here and other sites.

In whatever circumstance wherever historical mode is on or off, the USSR always leaves the Berlin-Moscow Axis within moments of its formation; i.e. when they accept the event and after Germany completes the national focus. They do not decline the event-it is confirmed that they are in the faction in the Diplomacy screen before they inevitably leave.

I'm incredibly frustrated at this and the bit of time wasted in shaping my playthroughs around that focus and its ahistorical path. I would like, however, to use this as an opportunity to be a source of positivity in addressing this bug, which assume this is due to something in the defines.lua or other some other script that causes the AI to do this.

Are there any possible workarounds to the .lua we can do in the meantime before this gets fixed?

Since I don't know WHY they are leaving, I can't say for sure how one would go about preventing this from happening - do you happen to have a save game from shortly before the Focus completes?

EDIT; one thing that MIGHT help (assuming you're okay with it / not playing ironman) - use the console "event election.11 SOV", and take the first option - this will make the Soviet Union Fascist and SHOULD allow you to enjoy the alliance at least.

No, because it was in Ironman both times. And, alright. I'll do that as a temporary fix-thanks for the suggestion.

What I do have, however, is the most recent Ironman save that prompted me to write this report, and a set of three games where I reproduce the bug with console commands. I can reproduce the bug again via normal gameplay if you would like me to, but it will come later as I don't have time to start a brand new playthrough right now.

The 'PRE' file occurs right before the focus is to finish; the 'FIRE' one is when the focus is completed; the 'LEAVE' one is when the USSR leaves. The other is the Ironman game.

(Happened to me twice as well)
The main problem is after taking that focus and the USSR cancels the alliance, you are left with no potential allies at all... (Exception being Hungary in both instances)

AI "always" leaves a faction if the faction leader's ideology doesnt match the country unless the country has massive bonus to diplomacy acceptance such as Bulgaria/Romania having facist diplomacy acceptance +85 from Italy's national focus tree.

Same issue happens for example if Communist/Fascist France tries to form Small Entente. Czechoslovakia will always leave the next day.

Edit: Good relations also wont help with that. For example if you are UK and change to fascist all the countries (-Raj who is a puppet) will leave allies next day even if they have +140 opinion fo you.

So no fix..... kinda sucks since im running iron man -___- was hoping i could have some soviet friends guess gotta kill them now lol

Yeah what I did was just do a game as communist Germany and they stayed in the alliance. That or the console command would probably work until they fix it, hopefully soon!
