truly amazing. Though youre BB must be rising even a little bit. All those declerations of war (can't remember if colonial wars give you a hit or not) and annexing even the small countries is going to have an effect, surely...

Looks like the positive prestige encouraged factory proposals. Thanks.

110_Belco.JPG

Apparently, people now think the corporate charter is really important.

111_Belco.JPG

More factory proposals. Thanks.

112_Belco.JPG

And Upper Cameroon earns its Statehood.

113_Belco.JPG

Oh no! The evil french want to steal our property!

114_Belco.JPG

We need to settle the coastal provinces ASAP so the french don't land on them. All the natives in Cameroon are now fired. Only Flemish can work there. Let them try and convince the international community that the flemish settlers are savages in need of their help!

115_Belco.JPG

Since we are already at war, we might as well go after some more land. Baguirmi "donates" most of its land!

116_Belco.JPG

The Company is increasingly effective. Nobody can get a job in the administration by a recommendation from their family members. Standardized tests are implemented. Meanwhile, we are working on the liberation of Libreville.

117_Belco.JPG

Sokoto decides to join The Company. Good for them!

118_Belco.JPG

Our engineers have developed an even better kind of railroad. I wish we could afford them... :(

With no means to attack the french colonies by sea (we still have no warships), we advance through the Sahara. The Tuareg can't possibly stop us.

120_Belco.JPG

And from there, we can enter the lands of the Trarza. That is what they get for being friends with the french. Not that we would have spared them otherwise, but...

121_Belco.JPG

Hausaland earns its Statehood!

122_Belco.JPG

The Tuareg kindly "donate" some of their land to The Company. They must have realized that the french were not willing to cross the Sahara just to defend them.

123_Belco.JPG

The Trarza "donate" most of their land.

124_Belco.JPG

We now occupy the french colonies in this part of Africa. We no longer need reinforcements, unless they actually land with a sizable force.

125_Belco.JPG

If you are a good worker, you will be rewarded, and I don't care who your father is. That is the company mantra from now on.

126_Belco.JPG

Cameroon earns its Statehood!

127_Belco.JPG

Looks like diplomatics aren't too fond of the new company mantra. We'll have more trouble dealing with foreign governments from now on.

128_Belco.JPG

We better start making the Great Powers scared of us. The people must be ready for war!

Borno is eager to "donate" some land to The Company. Let's give them a hand.

130_Belco.JPG

Wow.... I guess it's true what they say about the french...

131_Belco.JPG

The Great Powers think we are weak. The declaration of war by the french reminded us that only one thing could keep the peace: FORCE. New warriors are recruited. We will march all the way to the other side of Africa.

132_Belco.JPG

And Borno finalizes its donation. Thank you very much.

133_Belco.JPG

Wadai "donates" most of its land to The Company.

134_Belco.JPG

Darfur "donates" most of its land to The Company.

135_Belco.JPG

Azande "donates" most of its land to The Company.

136_Belco.JPG

Buganda "donates" most of its land to The Company.

137_Belco.JPG

Luba "donates" most of its land to The Company.

Yao "donates" most of its land to The Company.

142_Belco.JPG

Oman "donates" all of its african provinces to The Company. We'll take good care of them.

143_Belco.JPG

Gaza Nguni "donates" most of its land to The Company.

144_Belco.JPG

A flemish inventor! What would the world do without the flemish?

145_Belco.JPG

Our african veterans move by boat to Kaesong. The koreans need our help!

146_Belco.JPG

Most of Korea is taken, but the King keeps Seoul under his control. We shall take Seoul and liberate the korean people from tyranny!

147_Belco.JPG

The koreans are free! Kinda... well, maybe some day.

148_Belco.JPG

Back in Africa, our troops prepare to take the boers in the Transvaal. The Company must own those lands.

Most of the boers "donate" their land to The Company. The city of Pretoria remains a "free" city.

150_Belco.JPG

The korean people deserve a company of their own. The shopkeepers of Seoul rush to buy shares in the new company...

151_Belco.JPG

And The Korea Company is formed! The world is so impressed that we would let the koreans have their own company that they forget all about our invasion of the Transvaal.

152_Belco.JPG

153_Belco.JPG

The boers of Orange join The Company. Welcome!

154_Belco.JPG

Things look really, really bad. So much money is paid in interest that repaying the debt is next to impossible, and wars not viable. Drastic measures need to be taken. Leopold takes over the administration of The Company! The board of directors is fired! The charter suspended!

155_Belco.JPG

An immediate end to dividends is necessary if we are to ever repay the debt. A special fee is created for good brough from outside the territory of The Company. There is a general panic and people start selling their shares!

156_Belco.JPG

A series of factories are built in all the major settlements.

157_Belco.JPG

The French declare another colonial war! Maybe some french shareholders want their dividends back... we will resist!

158_Belco.JPG

Our troops suffer from lack of leadership. A special training program is created to fix that.

The prussians have united most of the german states and are growing strong. Even though we are strong too, our armies are in Africa (without warships to escort them back to Europe), and its mostly just cool uniforms to impress the natives. We need the prussians to be scared of us, or if necessary, we need to be able to kill lots of prussian soldiers. 25 artillery divisions might do the trick. Even if we have to delay debt repayment, we need to do it. Now.

160_Belco.JPG

Meanwhile, Borno joins The Company.

161_Belco.JPG

And Azande.

162_Belco.JPG

Oh no... tell me I'm just imagining things... we aren't ready! Stop!

163_Belco.JPG

Wadai joins The Company.

164_Belco.JPG

And Luba.

165_Belco.JPG

By the time our 25 artillery divisions finish training, the prussians have occupied Belgium. We can't deploy them. Maybe that is a good thing... I mean, look at how many prussian soldiers are there already... War Exhaustion is at 1.6%, since nobody actually tried to stop the prussians, and most of our states are in Africa. The troops are hiding, hoping the prussians will leave Tournai long enough for them to deploy.

166_Belco.JPG

Meanwhile, look at that! Attrition alone has killed thousands and thousands of prussian soldiers. Their War Exhaustion is actually higher than ours! And we haven't fired a single shot!

167_Belco.JPG

So you get an idea of how hopeless this war is, these are the army techs I have researched....

168_Belco.JPG

No point paying soldiers when they aren't fighting. Back to paying back the debt.

Given the vast debts and epically negative prestige (which I assume are bad things) is it possible you have been a tad too over-optimistic in terms of 'donations' from African states and all those conversions and factory builds?

The prussians land in Mobassa! I don't get why they went all the way around Africa, but...

170_Belco.JPG

We must remove the prussians from Africa. They took a few more provinces, but we outnumber them.

171_Belco.JPG

The prussians retreat, but we will kill them. Africa is OUR property.

172_Belco.JPG

Hum... the french also landed in East Africa. Not too many soldiers, but it's a distraction from the fight against the prussians...

173_Belco.JPG

Look at that! 13.7% War Exhaustion! They must be starting to understand they made a mistake.

174_Belco.JPG

Hearing of prussian atrocities in Belgium, Baden makes a separate peace treaty. It helps that we have a high military ranking.

175_Belco.JPG

As does Wurttemberg.

176_Belco.JPG

The french must also have heard of the prussian atrocities.

177_Belco.JPG

A new book! This is always good news!

178_Belco.JPG

With their War Exhaustion nearing 20% (ours was slightly lower... the miracle of attrition!), the prussians finally take a look at a map and see how big Africa is. If they are losing so many men just holding Belgium, how many would they lose in Africa? Yet, they are stubborn. It takes much begging to convince them to sign a Peace Treaty ( a White Peace). It would have unexpected consequences...

We survived! The prussians are leaving Belgium! Why is the export income so low? Must be temporary glitch. Now would be a good time to go clean up our conquests in Africa. Colonial war declared. WHAT THE HECK?! 99.4% War Exhaustion!? But! How! Why! ??? So that is why the export income is so low... an endless stream of rebelions, from China to the Ivory Coast, now occupies our armies. And debt repayment? We can't even make enough to pay interest under these conditions!

180_Belco.JPG

So we fight rebels. And start cleaning up Africa as the peace treaties expire. First, Buganda.

181_Belco.JPG

Tanganyika earns its Statehood!

They declared colonial war two years before (it hadn't ended yet). They seem to really want their "historical colonies" to be theirs, but not enough to actually fight for them. Indeed, Africa is way more important than Belgium. And our Military Ranking was close to that of Prussia. We had the 6th largest army in the world, at the time.

Baguirmi joins The Company!

190_Belco.JPG

Construction begins on the Viedma Trading Post. Soon, we shall have Patagonia!

191_Belco.JPG

Prussia is now Germany. Their war against the french caused them to lose a lot of men.

192_Belco.JPG

As you can see, we are now the number 1 force in continental Europe. Only the UK and (I think) the USA are ahead of us. If we manage to maintain that position, we should be safe. Problem is... Germany will probably build their army back up.

193_Belco.JPG

The people must prepare. The greatest war of all is about to begin (again)... The War on Debt! People will starve, but bondholders will have their money back!

194_Belco.JPG

Countdown to the end of The War on Debt... roughly 3 years to go...

195_Belco.JPG

The rebellions have stopped, mostly... I think we can spare some divisions to get a few more Protectorates to boost our Prestige. First Uruguay.

196_Belco.JPG

Then Nicaragua.

197_Belco.JPG

The french declared another colonial war... sorry, I clicked ok before taking the screenshot.

198_Belco.JPG

And Paraguay becomes a Protectorate.

Maye you can now take all of the French Africa holdings...

Taking provinces from civilized nations, even colonies, increases badboy. I stopped playing in November 1879 (will post the remaing pics now that power is back on) and my plan at this point is to take Indochina, then take Algeria+Libreville+Tuareg, and then release the three Indochina countries as dominions to get rid of badboy AND piss the french off even more. Maybe it's just me, but it seems badboy is practically permanent at the settings I'm playing with. They go down too slowly the natural way.

In about a month our peace treaty with the germans expires. They have built up their army, and allied with Italy. I'm scared. Seriously.

200_Belco.JPG

Bolivia becomes our Protectorate. They are severely weakened after a war against Brazil, but no problem.

201_Belco.JPG

We now have positive prestige for the first time since... a very long time! We can open negotiations! Let's trade some techs with Uruguay. Look how backwards we are...

202_Belco.JPG

We claim Patagonia as our property! The world is impressed! More prestige!

203_Belco.JPG

We don't want to fight. Maybe Portugal will sell its african colonies to us. Let's try and be their friends. And look! The germans haven't declared war!

204_Belco.JPG

The War on Debt is won! Ahead of schedule! About 3 million people died of starvation in what proved to be our worst war. To make up for it, The Company announces a subsidized Health Insurance Program for all residents.

205_Belco.JPG

With the debt repaid, Leopold can die knowing that he left a strong company for his son, Leopold II. The Company Charter is restored, dividends start being paid again, wages increase, and tarriffs are reduced. Long live capitalism!

206_Belco.JPG

Trarza joins The Company!

207_Belco.JPG

It does not take long for people to start buying back shares in The Company. The first bold purchases come from Pisung Kop, in Transorangia.

208_Belco.JPG

The french accept peace again. I get the feeling they will declare colonial war again when this treaty expires.

More excellent work! The going round conquering South America really works like a charm in getting your prestige back up. You need fortifications in Europe though, both against the Germans and French. I don't think the frogs will be content with Colonial wars forever!

The French are weak. We have a bigger army than them, even if we have no navy, and little tech. They wouldn't dare declare war.... would they? Now you got me worried. The germans seem to be quiet. Our army is also bigger than theirs, but that is unlikely to last much and they have an ally (our allies are practically worthless). On the other hand, we should probably recruit more divisions now. The french colonial wars are probably the result of me owning their historical colonies.
