I know... too many pictures. And too big. I only have one more update for today, and then I'll go back to playing and update again tomorrow. I'll resize the pics, cutting out any irrelevant sections for better readability.

The people of Rooktown also rush to buy shares in the new company. They shall be well rewarded.

050_Belco.JPG

Somebody proposes that a factory be built in Europe. The proposal is rejected. Europe is to be a sanctuary, without any of those ugly factories.

051_Belco.JPG

A similar proposal is then made to build a factory in Comoe, in Africa. Funding is approved.

052_Belco.JPG

And again for the Ivory Coast. We didn't even need to wait for the capitalists to build a factory! Yay!

053_Belco.JPG

We tell the admnistrators of the chinese territories to make the announcement: Loans will be given to pay for the settlement of any chinese that wishes to work in our african factories.

054_Belco.JPG

In Doota, a province that is not yet a state, the natives are removed from their lands and told to begin moving out.

055_Belco.JPG

Same thing in Asanteland. Only flemish are allowed to work in lands that have not been properly settled by The Company. It is for their own good.

056_Belco.JPG

Europeans are also fired from their work in the mines and fields, and told that they can find work in Africa. Unfortunately, I allowed them to build up savings and can't tax them more than 50%, so it will take a while before they start moving.

057_Belco.JPG

Our shareholders in Comoé soon begin a joint-venture with The Company to build an Explosives Factory in the region.

058_Belco.JPG

Positivism is researched. Now functionalism!

A new project for a Fabric Factory in Comoe is proposed. It is approved and funds sent. Migrants have filled the lumber mill there already, and some even assimilated into Flemish culture.

060_Belco.JPG

And a new project for the Ivory Coast was also approved. So many factories already...

061_Belco.JPG

As the Capitalists build up with rail network, the military is set to focus on morale. We don't plan to fight massive firepower wars against the major powers, and morale is king against uncivs.

062_Belco.JPG

Troops are sent to deal with the revolt in Kintampo. The workers in Asikaso are fired from the factories and sent to the coffee fields. All but a group of Flemish labourers. They are the advanced settlers of The Company and must begin moving out into the wild.

063_Belco.JPG

Trough a combination of flemish settlers from the Ivory Coast and Asikaso, and african migrants looking for work, Asanteland is finally turned into a state.

064_Belco.JPG

The debt is crushing us. At 20% interest, we are losing 50 pounds on day on it. We try and sell some tech, but after a couple of trades we realize it is pointless. Either way, we strengthened our ties to that other Company, the British India Company. Long live capitalism!

065_Belco.JPG

As people in Asanteland bought shares in the company, they soon had enough money from dividends to start a joint-venture there. A Glass Factory began to be built.

066_Belco.JPG

We are running out of land to settle. Sokoto has lots of it. Let's steal some.

067_Belco.JPG

Their offer is sufficient. We'll take more once our new peace treaty with them expires.

068_Belco.JPG

The people of Doota (worodugu) invest in Company shares, and the province is turned into a state. But the budget is still ugly. All that converting people into craftsmen and back and everything else costs money. What now?

With state i didn't mean the US i mean the Belgian African States...

So if you turn them in states doesn't that mean that they also have to start paying the big taxes and start emigrating?

The 100% taxes were there merely to speed up the colonization of the first couple of african states by doubling the amount of people that moved there per month (wasn't very useful anyway). After that, I switched to a laissez-faire party, so I couldn't tax them that much even if I wanted to. Regardless, farmers/labourers don't leave due to taxation, they only leave because of militancy or unemployment.

There is no way but forward. If we are not more aggressive, we will fail. Soldiers! Prepare!

070_Belco.JPG

Soon the Company's Hausa warriors will be ready to liberate more land for development.

071_Belco.JPG

We are now on the brink of bankrupcy. And this is before having to pay for the maintenance of the new army. Advance, or die! Our shareholders depend on you!

072_Belco.JPG

De Ridder is given command of the Hausa, and begins his advance. Good thing he is reliable...

Yoruba "donates" most of its land to The Company.

Benin "donates" most of its land to The Company.

De Ridder's forces move by boat to Rooktown. Time is money!

077_Belco.JPG

Joola "donates" most of its land to The Company.

078_Belco.JPG

The army is split in two. This will either mean a faster war, or failure as the natives overwhelm my leaderless troops.

Looks like some shareholders decided to help the war effort by building a small arms factory. Thanks, but not necessary.

080_Belco.JPG

Malinke "donates" most of its land. Hey, we weren't overwhelmed! Yay!

081_Belco.JPG

Bambara "donates" most of its land.

Masina "donates" most of its land.

083_Belco.JPG

Mossi "donates" most of its lands.

084_Belco.JPG

For some reason, we got a bad reputation for accepting all those donations. Don't people realize the liberated africans will be better off unther The Company's rule? Some of them were living in slavery! Well, okay. We'll just have to earn some respect. The Dominican Republic broke away from Haiti, so that is an... opportunity. Thankfully, we can use our base in Haiti to invade, and don't have to attack from the sea... that helps A LOT.

085_Belco.JPG

Soon, they are made into another Protectorate.

086_Belco.JPG

As is Honduras.

087_Belco.JPG

And El Salvador.

088_Belco.JPG

Since we are in the pacific already, let's head to China. With our new armies, we are sure to crush them.

This is madness. But, at the same time, it could be genius. I approve of either and both.

So... I'm not quite sure that I understand your plans to make Flemish the majority ethnicity in Africa. Can you explain, pretty please? :D

Okay, let me try and make it simple. Ivory Coast is a State. Assanteland is not. So the natives in Assanteland are converted to craftsmen, that migrate to the nearby Ivory Coast to work in the factories. Because they migrate in small numbers, Flemish is already the dominant ethnicity in the State, and the radical anarco-liberal party is full citizenship, they often (but not always) assimilate. The chinese do the same. Repeat the process. Now it's later in the game and people are flooding out of Europe. High plurality country + full citizenship party means I get some immigrants (even if its not a flood) that more likely than not, also assimilate. Will it be enough to make flemish the majority/dominant culture of Africa? I don't know, but I'll sure try.

Despite losing Beijing and all the surrounding provinces, the chinese refused to surrender more than Hengshui. I chose to take it rather than prolong the war and get further in debt.

090_Belco.JPG

I desperately need to deal with the debt. Ad-Hoc Money Bill Printing will help lower interest rates. They currently represent the majority of the budget.

091_Belco.JPG

After withdrawing my forces from chinese territory, I declare war on Korea in the hopes of taking more chinese land when they come to their aid.

092_Belco.JPG

But the chinese turned into cowards. We took the first peace treaty we were offered by Korea and went back to Africa. At some point I intend to turn Korea into a Dominion, but I have more important business to attend to right now.

093_Belco.JPG

Sokoto! Did you think you could escape our wrath?

094_Belco.JPG

Sokoto "donates" most of its land to The Company... ;) We sure love donations. I'm avoiding annexations because they result in badboy points, while taking provinces from uncivilized nations does not. I cannot defend the Belgium mainland from France or another Great Power. Yet!

095_Belco.JPG

Okay, now we can relax. The soldiers can go visit their families for a while.

096_Belco.JPG

More interest rate reducing technology!

097_Belco.JPG

The debt is still causing us great difficulties. Better tax efficiencies should help.

098_Belco.JPG

We can finally increase dividends to shareholders (lower rich taxes). They should complete the rail network and expand the factories soon.

Kaarta earns its Statehood.

100_Belco.JPG

And its shareholders.

101_Belco.JPG

Niger earns its Statehood. No need to explain that they also get their shareholders, is there?

102_Belco.JPG

As the new peace treaties with the african tribes expire, we can begin to clean them up.

103_Belco.JPG

I accidentaly click on Yorubaland. Look! I can grant it Statehood! Apparently, Jebba has nothing but a few Flemish farmers. I'll wait a little until I have a larger flemish pop in the state to make it an effective factory-builder.

104_Belco.JPG

105_Belco.JPG

The debt is still crushing me. So I decide to hire the europeans back. Many of them already left for Africa, but the craftsmen in Gent and Brussel just refused to go. I guess the provinces just make too much money to be abandoned. Wow! I didn't realize I could make that much just by letting people in Europe go to work. The budget looks much prettier.

106_Belco.JPG

Kwararafa earns its Statehood. And shareholders. Look how pretty Africa looks in flemish colours!

107_Belco.JPG

We are still negative on prestige, despite the boost from annexing all those uncivs, so we need another satellite. Argentina will do. We send troops to Patagonia, where they hide. Our navy has no war ships, so we can't rely on an invasion by sea. And, this lets us take all their claims instantly.

108_Belco.JPG

Once we move up and take Buenos Aires, Argentina accepts to become our newest Protectorate. We have a lot of countries to protect...

Some interesting techniques at work here!

The closest I have managed to assimilating an entire continent to my nations culture was with Liberia. I took most of West Africa, and proceeded to build factories in my home state. By converting African POPs to clerks and craftsmen with a full citizenship party, I more or less forced them to migrate to my factories in Guinea. There, a lot (though not all of them) assimilated to Afro-American and by the end of the game Afro-Amercans made up 10% of my population, the single largest ethnic group after African Minor.

I'm sitting taking notes on this one though :D

It's unbelievable what you can do if you know how this game works

The Belgian Africa Company must be the least successful (in terms of profit) but the most dramatic business venture of all time. Bravo.
