Holy moly, a Modern Day Scenario! With a Balkan War thread! Sheesh. And I thought it was trouble enough keeping us fine Balkan folks in order in CORE Balkan forums.... :)

Seriously, are any of you guys prophets, or are things just this obvious? You planned for a Balkan war arranged around violence in Kosovo and Albanian crisis, and "voila", you almost got one in RL.... :(

Anyway, if you want a hand, I have a little free time. CORE v0.72 is almost out, and we are planning for v0.8, but that is a little bit away. Partisans in the Balkans in WWII are coming along, I want to try to rewrite modern history now.

Just point me in the right direction.

Allright then, I've taken a stab at coding some events from the previous thread page. Note that the events use randomly selected upper range of IDs (ones that I have reserved in CORE for Yugoslavia, more or less) and that minister IDs are not real either. On a last note, I used "BIH" as a country tag for Bosnia and Herzegovina. I don't know what you guys at MDS use, so feel free to correct that.

Here they go:

id like to propose a few things. like for kosova when it gets attacked by serbia, i think that it should have some kind of defensive force, possibly UCK(KLA) or TMK(KPC), which should be like 20,000-40,000 strong, in the form of militia. it would be weak but would slow the serb forces down a little.
Good idea, but I don´t think the UCK would best be represented by militia. Since most UCK units have been trained and equiped by Germany, they should form real infantry divisions. Maybe better mountain divisions, to better represent their guerilla warware and knowledge of terrain.

Funny: Today the KFOR (and thus Germany) fights those who have been trained by them. UCK uniform and German Bundeswehr uniforms are basically identical. :p

Other Balkan Nations

I know the main discussion is about former Yugoslavia and Albainia right now, but you guys planning on doing anything with Hungary,Romania,Bulgaria,Turkey, or Greece? Perhaps a pro-Serbian coup could take place in one of them and it would intervene in the Balkan war.

At the moment they aren't. I don't know the political situations in the other countries except that Greece doesn't like Macedonia a lot. If someone who is familiar with the area can give some information we might be able to involve some of the others.

We don't like FYROM,not Macedonia.Macedonia is a province of our country :) .Anyway, about the possible plot:there is no way a coup d'etat would happen in Greece in the 90s,pro-serbian or other. The country is extremely stable on that issue. It's true there were even some volunteers in the yugoslav war, but aside from that our support was moral. The only way Greece could get involved in war, would be either against Turkey over Cyprus or against Albania ove our minority there.

This one gets messy. Greece had a 4 year trade blockade on "FYROM" simply because of the name, heh.

And yeah, I figured as much. Do the new Conservatives in power have any new policies regarding the Balkans?

What about Russian-Serbian realations? How will Putin react to the war? Send volunteers, intervene, stay neutral?

I think last thing Russia will do is intervene in a Balkan war. I believe that the Entire Chechnya Rebel incident where the Theatre was overrun and the Russians used some type of gas is still on there asses with the U.S.A. so I mean.... yea. I highly doubt the Serb/Russian relation is worth going against all the critizim they will face.

What we now have in Russia is Putin with 80% rating of approval + a recently appointed shadow cabinet of ministers + puppet parliament = unlimited power. And I've heard that you planned to make Russia go fascist (which I find very probable). Wouldn't fascist Russia support Greater Serbia?

IMHO Russia must be given opportunity to participate in conflict, at least by sharing some manpower (volunteers) and adding some AA to Belgrade...

I don't know how well are you familliar with situation on Balkans (except for other fellow ex-Yugoslavian brothers :D ). Anyway.....

I have a question. will Kosovo be an independent country or what? would it be part of SCG?

I don't know how 'historically correct' or possible scenaro are you trying to build here.

researches i read about (sorry couldn't help myself :) ) shows the following:

if the war broke down in the Balkans (greatest possibility is of course Kosovo) the war would not spread (for now). but if the nationalists come to power in SCG (is happening now or will soon happen), Albanians in Kosovo demand independent state more actively (also happening), nationalists in Albania came to power (not happening) and most importantly NATO & EU forces leave Kosovo (will not happen soon).

that could ignite 'Bare Baruta' - and the war would be here. if that happens Serbs in Bosnia would most probably revolt and either join Serbia or declare an independent country (again).

Croatia is a big question mark. trying to deal with the past and join EU on one side and on the other are nationalists forces still strong. if these win (nationalist part of HDZ or HSP) it could join the war or most probably - carve up Bosnia with Serbia (it tried to do it before).

Macedonia (that is its constitutional name - FYROM go to history) will most probably not join the war with Albania on the side of Serbia. They will crush the albanian uprising - thats for sure. but war? they almost crush the uprising of 2001 - and that with (partial) help of bulgarian arms shipments (weapons meant for scrapheap ;) ). i don't beleive it would join the war - unless the Albania openly interfere (arm shipment, military missions, soldiers,...) with their crushing of Albanians.
