In vanilla Victoria 2 the Balkans and Anatolia were left out and were simply too dull, the only things you could do was creating Yugoslavia as Serbia or creating Greater Greece/Megali idea. It is sad nothing else was added and I really hope it will be different this time. It would be cool to see unique events for countries like Bulgaria, Albania, Armenia and so on.
I would love to see an ethnic map that actually reflected the 1800 century Balkans since they have told us how much they will focus on the pops. Hopefully it will look a little bit more like this French map from 1861:
Balkans-ethnic_%281861%29.jpg

The ethnic map in Victoria 2 looked too modern and lacked a lot of different pops: Albanians in Macedonia and Epirus, Armenians in Eastern Anatolia, Greeks in Thrace and Anatolia, Turks in Eastern Bulgaria, Bulgarians in modern South East Serbia and modern North Greece, Vlachs in Epirus and Macedonia. There was also a lack of Muslim Greeks, Muslim Bulgarians, Christian Turks/Gaugaz people and so on.

Other than this there should be events for alternative history that would allow stuff like San Stefano Bulgaria to be formed or "Wilsonian" Armenia.

It would also be nice to have events like: The Russo-Turkish war, The Balkans wars, The April uprising of 1876, the Ilinden uprising, The population exchanges, The Muhajir migration of Turks and Muslims to Anatolia.
Events that artificially recreate historical occurrences that don't make sense in the context of the game? No thank you.

That mapmode in Vic2 only showed majority cultures with, I think, some shading when there was a majority minority in a state. If you were to look at the pops themselves they were a much more varied bunch.

Okay, but "only happen if conditions allow" is functionally the same as "aren't in the game", absent a player who deliberately makes the conditions happen.
The migration should naturally be there because that is basically what happened after every country in the Balkans got independent, and it wasn't a "small" migration we are talking about millions of Turks and Muslims migrating so it changed the ethnic setting a lot of places. I understand how wars can be pretty difficult to predict since the game is supposed to be alternative history, but Paradox can figure something out.

That is true but they still lacked a lot of ethnicities and the ethnic borders looked too close to modern ethnic borders. But Victoria 2 is also from 2010 so what can we expect. I just hope they will make it more realistic and include more pops and more diversity.

These maps are incorrect in parts though. You can not look at one or even a few by themselves and go with that, you must look at many sources from the time. In those, we can see for example though there were those who called themselves Bulgarian in Macedonians, there were also those who called themselves Macedonians. We started talking about that here a while ago. https://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/threads/powderkeg-of-europe-balkans-megathread.1475715/

Similar things with Southern Serbia, Dobruja etc.

You can also even see from this map that "Serbs" in say Bosnia were also considered Bosniaks, so there's those 2 as well.
