#01 Introduction
Greetings everyone!
I´m Lelouch and this is going to be my second AAR. You may remember me from 'Alles Erdreich ist Österreich!'. I told you back then, that I´d start a new AAR in HoI3. Well let me tell you what happened... I got myself HoI3, installed it, played it a bit and realized how much it sucks compared to HoI2. So I just went back to good old HoI2, but this time I wanted to do something different. Only thing that remained the same is me playing a minor (they are more fun if you ask me), but the difference is, that I´m playing the 1914 Mod this time. It actually took me some time to do that since I had neither real motivation nor the time lately. All I did was preparing some little unit icons in SKIF style for my Hellenic Armed Forces in order to make this AAR look more pretty. It won´t be as graphics-heavy as my first AAR though and focus a little bit more on gameplay. I hope you enjoy it, though and will finish that stupid greeting part now.

Chapter I - The Cretan Crisis
Several reforms greeted the new year 1897 in the Kingdom of Greece. Realizing that the current Industrial Capacity of his country was by far to weak to support an army big enough to ensure the safety of the Greek people from Ottoman aggressions, the king decided that it was time for a second Industrial Revolution, which would put Greece out of its dark corner in the European symphony of power. The Laurium Smelting Works were assigned with the project as they were the most suitable TechTeam among the cheaper ones for this job.
Greek Diplomacy, Policies and Projects - January 1897
Money was an issue in Greece - as well as supplies. The Industry was just barely large enough to supply the kingdom with at least one of them. It became obvious that even the heavily reduced Armed Forces of Greece would still consume way too many supplies, while the Techteam struggled with financing its huge Project - it wasn´t a big problem now, but it was clear, that it would become a big one after some time. So it was decided to conclude Trade Agreements with other European countries. Relations to Italy were rather good which led to a deal rather soon. As the other Central Powers - Germany and Austria-Hungary - were the only ones with at least neutral relations towards the Kingdom and as they were Allies of Italy as well, it was decided to conclude another deal with Germany. Now the Hellenic Army would get supplies from on of the most advanced countries in the world.
Trade deals with Italy and Germany were mandatory for Greek Economy
As there was only a limited availability of supplies, the Hellenic Army was roughly cut into a half in January 1897. 2 Corps numbering a total of 6 Infantry Divisions were disbanded, leaving only 1 Infantry Corps, a small Militia and a Cavalry Division. The Hellenic Navy however remained untouched from these reforms as it was the pride of the nation and also one of the most important aspects of Greece's military and strategical value. As the Army was not big enough to guard all the shores, that task was given to the Navy. However, the king had his plans to rearm the small peninsula as soon as the economy would allow that. After all, there were a lot of claims on Ottoman lands to get...
In 1897, the Hellenic Armed Forces were only barely big enough to be able to protect the Greek borders
Riots, Rebellions and heavy dissent were rather common in the European parts of the Ottoman Empire, which was struggling to keep these lands under control as they inherited half of it´s Industrial Capacity. A Rebellion in Macedonia was quickly crushed in a bloodbath and soon after, Crete seemed to become one as well. Unable to watch fellow Greeks getting killed in a non-christian country, the king decided to intervene in Crete, which was a rather risky decision as the Ottomans were antagonized by this and as the Great Powers never really let small conflicts on their continent pass by just like that.
Though a lot of Greek lives were saved through the kings decision, the lives of even more were now endangered
Soon the Great Powers decided to intervene through diplomacy and didn´t take any side in this conflict. The German Empire, the Russian Empire and the British Empire proposed Crete to become an independent state of the Ottoman Empire. The Ottomans were ready to accept that proposal and soon the only missing signature under this treaty was the one of the Greek king, who took some time to think about it. Not wanting to risk a war with the Ottomans and propably even with the Great Powers, he decided to accept the proposal as well. Crete became an Ottoman puppet soon, but at least its people were now safe from being slaughtered for believing in their own god.
The neutral intervention of the Great Powers and the decisions that were met by the two sides of the conflict, prevented a war
However, the people of Greece wanted the blood of the Ottomans - they demanded war. As the message of the Greek king accepting the proposal, which felt like a humiliation to many Greek nationalists, got around, the Greeks were enraged. Dissent grew quickly and the Economy was the first one to suffer from that. There was only one way to appease the people and the king just saw it right away. Immediatly the whole Economy was readjusted to Consumer Goods. The plan worked, as the dissent slowly went down and more and more money was gained from all those goods being sold. However, the Hellenic Army was now forced to get its supplies out of the few reserves the kingdom had and the stockpiles went down at an alarming rate. Seeing no other chance but to sell resources for supplies, the Kingdom had another big deal with Italy which would prove to be very costy...
A high price was paid for preventing the collapse of Greece
With everything being back to normal after that internal crisis was solved, the king sat back in order to see his plans slowly unfold in front of him. Waiting for results he studied the world news only to see that the only halfway interesting message was, that the British enlarged their colonial Empire... once again...
In early 1897 the British Empire ended its Sudan war successfully
