The bAAR: A Place to Discuss and Recommend AARs

[Judge]

“Holy cow Anibal, take it easy with that bottle of vodka. Liquor is not good for your health”. Judge sits down at the table with the gazette firmly tucked under one of his arms. “Not only did I read it Amric, I even managed to write an article".

After a cold Sam Adams Judge stops reading the Gazette and starts talking again. “I have really been slow at updating my AARs but now I have an update out in the Cum Deo where Lord Hamdur and Erika are up to some interaction. Next week I hope to finish my Kingdom of Jerusalem story. The update is almost ready but there is some polishing to do. After that the Tiger deserves my attention and when the Mysore tale is finished (not many updates left) I think I will write a CK story. No need to rush there though since I would like one or two patches first to take care of the crashes”

 

[Judge]

“A beer Amric please, got to have something to drink after finally been able to write an update in my Tiger of Mysore AAR. Haydar Alî, the father of the Tiger has arrived so soon the Tiger will join the living I guess, cheers to that”

 

[Machiavellian]

Machiavellian enters the establishment and looks about for some fine drink and perhaps eggs or something to eat. Taking a seat at the bar, he takes off his tophat and places some ducats on the counter.

"I have started a new AAR in the Mongol Empire Scenario. Since I do not have CK and in CK you can not play as the countries of Islam, I decided to attempt to create a tale following the various Dynasties in the Syria-Egypt area. A link should be in my signiture if anyone is interested."

With Amric nearing, Machiavellian forgets about the blatant self advertisement and orders some ale and eggs.

 

[Smirfy]

Smirfy notices two Roundhead generals stagger out of the bar down the Forum. "What Did you Give those Generals to drink Amric, they look all at sea!" he enquires off the Baartender

 

[Machiavellian]

"Amric, if you would be so kind, I was wondering do you have any Bar specialties? If so, I'd like one."

Taking a break at the Bar, Machiavellian finishes the last sentence of a new update.

"For those who are interested, I did manage to get an update for my new AAR done today and it should be able to be read now. I also included a political map. Suggestions are always welcome. I tried to introduce a few characters, but i am sure my style needs some work as I am not really used to writing purely in the narrative format."

"Speaking of narrative format, to see some real masters of the craft I suggest checking out Amric's new work or Treize's epic tale of Napoleon... and of course their is always LD's story of the Guiscard dynasty over in the Crusader Kings forum."

 

[merrick]

Merrick staggers into the BAAR, followed by an extremely weary and footsore elephant.
"Tis done," he announces to the mostly-indifferent patrons. "The March of the Elephant is finished, done up and concluded. The elephant has come to the end of the road."
Looks round to see if the attempted humour has raised a smile. Shrugs.
I need a drink. A big drink. In fact, make that two drinks. And a bucket... <trunk taps him on shoulder> ... err, a barrel ... <trunk taps again, harder> ... hell with it, give him the whole vat."
Both settle down to their drinks.

A long-time-not-seen at the bAAR enters again.

"He, hello everyone!

I have started a new AAr again, this time on the Roman empire of 400BC and guess what, I included some screenies!

bAARtender, a round for the entire baar, I have to celebrate this."

A glad and happy Singleton sits himself down.

 

[Smirfy]

Smirfy pays for Merrick's well earned round of drinks and turns to the elephant and enquires "What now?..........Politics?"

After hitting the keys of his computer for hours Singleton finnaly stands up, sweat on his face.

"I like to announce two new scenarios, on which I have worked, are up to be played.

The first is The American Civil War scenario

The second is Th After the Flood scenario

I like to show you the places where those scenrios are discussed and hope you can make your way to the donloadable versions of the scenarios yourself."

"It's been awhile" CvM thinks to himself as he walks in and orders a drink.

He takes his seat in the corner, and asks those that pass by

"Any good new AAR's to read?"

He is greeted at first with menacing stares...

"OK. I'll update My English AAR soon, i promise :wacko: "

Nice to see you again, CvM. About time you showed your face in here! Have a drink. Congrats on finishing, Merrick. I have been meaning to get back in there and catch up, but I haven't had the time. BUt I will get to it at some point!

To be honest, I didn't expect to win<since Ebbesen is nominated as well>, but I didn't expect to get beaten like a punching bag either! Win or lose, you should VOTE. If you haven't voted, why not? I think the probable victory of Peter Ebbesen is most fair on the poll. Hell, he wrote a superb thing! More rum here, Amric. No, not this one. The one on the left... no, on the left, not on the right! Yes, bring me some of this.

Every other is also a nice read in my opinion. Too bad I couldn't get to finish mine, because of savefile issues... But I have voted on Amric's tale, another superb reading. I only hope we get some more people to vote. So, what are you waiting for? VOTE!

I'm glad to see that the AARctivities didn't stop! Unfortunately, I'd like to keep on writing... tight time schedule does it to you. Does anyone here have the formula to make the day have 30 or more hours?

"I have to say, for some reason I have never been able to really follow the guess the author thread. I've checked in on it from time to time, but I think I kind of do not understand the meaning behind it. I have the feeling that many may also be in my shoes. Perhaps an explanation of it here in the BAAR may serve to garner it more attention?"

Machiavellian looked around for a moment. His eyes were cold and his smile unlifted. He gave a slight shrug.

"Could I get something cold, strong and alcoholic please?"

Amric, undiluted vodka from the freezer to Mach please, put that on my account. Well “the guess the author” is not so much about guessing who is the author. Instead it is a way of getting feed-back on your writing I believe.

Since this is a gloomy day I think I would like a vodka too Amric. Do go and check out LD´s Norman Knights in the CK section. Great story indeed, even Peter Ebbesan seems to have become an “attaboy”, cheers all.

One yak's milk please. No pulp - I mean hair!

I've postoned Kings of England: My First AAR for various reasons. However it will be continued in due time. However, I'm still writingEasy as A B "Holy See": A Papal States AAr and I will hope to have another update with another Pope done before this weekend. If you're just tuning it, feel free to just pick and read any post you like, since I am writing this one post per Pope now you won't get confused if you miss one. But enough shameless self-promotion!

I notice a lot of new writers in the forums and a lot of brand new AARs. This is definately a transition period, as I notice many of the long-time AARs have concluded and we're getting a truckload - um... wagonload to be historic - of new stories.
So let's drink to this new batch of AARs!

"Cheers to that Arcadian". Judge takes a sip from his cold morning beer. "Well Mach to tell the truth I think I will wait and see what Johan will cook for us in the coming patches before I decide. I suspect there will be more of diplomatic actions for example which give more options for writing a narrative AAR which I plan to do. I am playing León right now and that’s it a lot of fun. Sweden is a country close to my heart that I never have written any story about so that might be a good idea. Anyway I will not start until summer so lot of time to play and consider until then. Cheerssss"

**The cigar smokes wraps and curls around the newcomer as if it is unsure what to make of this intruder into its domain. The background natter of the BAAR, as integral to it as the thud of a beating heart lows for a second and then picks up with increased fervour.The newcomer walks up to the publican**

"So, do you get much live music in here? I'm not talking covers, but proper bands?"

 

[Machiavellian]

"I took a brief break from my newest AAR to update my long running Double Cross and the Golden Bull. I took some liberties with my alternate history, but I had to find a way to make the constant rebellions at least slightly interesting."

After speaking Machiavellian goes back to reading the several new AARs that have appeared lately, as he sips conservatively from his sniffter of brandy.
