I'm trying a WC as the Papal State. Prawnstar is and has been my hero since his "Audacity of Hope" AAR, and therefore this AAR's name is a tribute to his.
HttT is released soon, and now it's time to show skills!
Let's see...

PAPAL STATE:​

Pros:

• Can't get excommunicated
• Can't convert to another religion

Cons:

• Papacy, very hard to get rid of
• Can't form Italy
• Usually DoW'd early
• Can't convert to another religion

Chapter One: Papal Situation

A decent ruler, no starting advisors.

Centralisation/Decentralization will most likely be our first move.

Lots of good relations, allowing us to request all kind of nice things.

National Decisions. Not good.

I don't know if it is possible to get rid of the papal government... But ruling the world as the pope will be kickass anyway

Chapter Two: Rage

Three days from unpausing Naples DoW's us.

Luckily we had a plan. We got a Military access from Urbino, allowing us to retreat there. We scorched Roma, retreated to Urbino and then became then best part. Just when they had unsuccessfully tried to assault, we attacked and destroyed their entire army. Now we had the upper hand.

1401 we capture Napoli. Naples had a new army of 4000 men, but they also had rebel problems:

They destroyed one of the rebel armies, but were defeated by the second. We proceeded to Apulia, where they retreated, and crushed them. With the rebels weakened by assaults, we destroyed them too.

Peace with Naples - 1403

One month later, Milan DoW's Urbino, triggering our warning:

War took way too much time.
1409 Naples attacks Tunisia, triggering our warning. This time Ferrara joins the war by the side of Naples.

1410 we get our first NI, National Bank.

Peace with Ferrara - 1411

Naples is annexed, too.

That's the first years.

Hmm, I wonder what will the "Declare Statute in Restraint of Appeals" does with Papal State. Worse relations with yourself?

Chapter Three: Italian Ambition

1412 and we fabricate claims in Sicily. Shortly afterwards we DoW'd them for 1 stab hit. They were allied to Ferrara, but Ferrara didn't join the war (they were probably afraid of being annexed).

Peace with Sicily - 1413

Sicily's reduced to an OPM.

War with Urbino - 1416

Urbino gave us many call to arms when we guaranteed them. Now WE will come after them. It took three spies to fabricate the claims.
June 1417, Ferrara annexed. July, Urbino is annexed.

And at this point we broke our BB limit. But the Pope won't care, and no new DoW's appear. Not even warnings. They're afraid of us!

Tuscany is also attacked, bringing some bigger nations to the war:

Genoa, though, is occupied by Milan, who is also fighting with Savoy. So our only real enemies are Tuscany and Venice.

Peace with Venice - 1421

And thanks to few lucky events that gave us money, we create a CoT in Roma. This should bring us more money. And looks like we need some more mercantilism, our BB is really hurting trading abroad.

Seriously how did you coax a wardec out of Naples on day 3?

Hah, now that's one aggressive pope. At this rate, every catholic country in the world shall be under the direct rule of the pope by the end of the century

Seriously how did you coax a wardec out of Naples on day 3?

I've made this same thing with Navarra earlier. When they DoW you, scorch the land and go to a neighboring country, wait for them to storm the fort and then destroy them.

And in every game I play, Naples DoW's Papal State within a week of the game start.

If you join HRE then Naples won't attack you. But Naples dow really helped you to become strong. What are you going to do with Urbino?

With Urbino? They got annexed.
