* The Ashes.

"...in affectionate remembrance of English cricket, which died at the Oval on 29th August, 1882".

The colony defeats England at their own game on their own turf, symbolising Australia's emergence as a nation.

I say, there goes the Empire old chap.

Actually that game was quite a patriotic moment for the sport minded Aussies, and it did give them an extra sense of nationalism than before the game.

I was thinking there could be some kind of 'nationalism' counter (like war entry in HOI) for any region that historically becomes a country in its own right in the vic timeframe; the counter increases the desire for, say, federation... or rebellion in oppressed regions.

I'm in favor of including a lot of events like that, because even if they have no effect in the game, they have a powerful effect in the players, reinforcing their illusion of 'being there'; like getting medals in a flight simulator, or squadron fellows with names and voices, for example.

Yeah...the feeling of "being there" is really one of the greatest strenghts of paradox games. Like all the ministers, leaders, historic unit names, complete map of the world, techs, etc in HOI. And the generals and kings and events in EU2.

I used to be all about civ., but I feel I can never go back to that series, since it is just one big fantasy scenario.

I agree.... I kinda lost interest in CivII when my brilliant American scholars discovered the secrets of writing.

Obviously, the loss of the Ashes was the beginning of the end of the British Empire. Well, obviously.
