I've been wondering this for a while. But if you invade big countries such as Germany, France and especially Russia etc. you're bound to have to strech yourself thin if you take the offensive stance. In this case there are several ways to proceed, but especially vs human players who will in most cases not recklessly give battle this type of warfare can be difficult without overwhelming numbers
- You can start carpet sieging their border while leaving your bigger armies behind in your own territory ready to reinforce. And slowly thus force your opponent to give battle or lose provinces.
- You can try to send an expiditionary force beyond the border to find and eliminate the enemy forces to more readily siege en massé. (Or their capital directly)
- And lastly, you can have big armies as your assault fortresses and thus more quickly siege, but at higher manpower costs, but heavily reducing the chance of counterattack.

All method's will in some way incur losses and war exhaustion. But are there any alternatives when fighting huge countries? (Especially in PvP wars) So I ask this, what have your experiences when fighting big wars been as to the method of fighting used?

Comments from people with multiplayer experience is especially appriciated!

Well how on earth would you fight a war otherwise? You'll find few examples of historical carpetsieging, wait scrap that: none :) I think against human players this game shines at its best since you are both (technically) adorned with a higher intellect. My MP experience is that of the slow war, I love the experience cause it keeps you at the tip of your toes, a mistake and you'll be punished. I tend to cover my sieges and look out for a mistake on my opponents behalve, say an army that I can safely trap etc. In essence that is 17th century western european warfare in a nutshell: the waiting game.

All in all the biggest advantage is that Warscore in essence doesn't count that hard. I don't need to push my enemy to the 100% limit cause he is a human capable of reasoning and able to make a rational assesment at any given point whether he wants to continue or not, even if the score wouldn't make the AI budge for white peace.
