I dont remember Turtledove mentioning China. I wonder how they are fairing? Maybe the Socialists of the US will support their violent Communist cousins in China? And the reactionary forces of England/France/CSA supporting the nationalists? Or does the Manchu dynasty still hold power?

And isn't it weird the a real-life Austrian right-wing party is called the Freedom Party? Hehehe...

I presume the South is supporting a fascist regime under Maximilian's succesor(s), but who are they fighting? I don't see it unreasonable that the Zapatistas (anarchists, or under HOI's terminology, left wing radicals) are still a major part of the opposition.

So you've got, at the least, a left wing radical faction centered around the Yucatan Penninsula.

What about the UK? Did it have to pay outrageous indemnities? If so, it might not be unreasonable that fascists (under Mosley) take power. In that case, the UK might've gotten into a nasty war with Indian separtists.

I believe UK ended the war pretty much untouched just like Japan. Oh N. Ireland got taken over by Eire though. France is another story, its basically post WW1 Germany in Real Life.

The UK lost much of their American colonies, Bermuda Bahamas and such.

What about Jamaica and Singapore? In Africa what kinda of changes would we see there? Would Liberia gain some land? How much would the Germans take?

Oh, forgot about that large colony in N. America. US forcefully annexed Canada and made a puppet out of Quebec.

In Blood and Iron, Turtledove doesn't really focus on the rest of the world too much.

Always avoid the obvious, that’s my motto . Was the "Dominion of Canada" a real colony or was it part of the commonwealth?

I think that the Suez Canal would probably be given to the Ottomans.

Why are people assuming that the CSA would be Fascist and aligned with Nazi Germany? For one, the South had close ties with France and Great Britain, which would have continued until WWII because both countries still had significant textile industries. Likewise, the politics of the South was a confederacy with the bulk of the power lying with the states, not the strong central government of a fascist regime.

Is it because of the slavery issue? By 1940, blacks would've been nominally free due to political pressure from Europe, but living under something akin to the Jim Crow Laws. Sort of like exactly their status was during our real history at the time of WWII.

A:Because, in Harry Turtledove's novel series American Empire, the CSA ends up beng fascist. There is no Nazi Germany, and the south is allied to France and England.

A: They are nominally free, another fun factoid that comes from reading the books before trotting out your rants.
