No, there wasn't-either a bad day, or Lee was not as good on the battlefield as he was at getting there. I tend to think of it as an "off-day", which is something that has the nasty habit of creeping up on even the best generals.
Gettysburg, if I recall maps correctly, does lie to the north of Washington though, not the south..........well, north-west.
