Back From The Dead - A Short Update
Apolgies to anyone who was following this previously, but I decided to play ahead and perfect my tactics. However, while doing this I realised that DAIM wasn't working properly (most likely because I had the New Nations Mod installed) so I performed a re-install, and started from scratch. And yes, DAIM is definately working this time! :eek:o

My builds are mostly the same (I usually build the same things whenever I play Germany), Poland was defeated just as quickly and the Japanese rolled over China. But there are 2 little differences in our new world:

1) The Nationalists came down with a bad case of what Doctors call "being useless" and are almost annexed. The Civil war even managed to stalemate briefly where it did in my first play through, but then Franco Failed at everything.

civwarfeb1940.jpg

2) I can only conclude that Franco has been in Moscow recently, as similarly the Soviets have been struck down by stupidity, and have neither defeated Finland, nor made peace with them. Time will tell if Finland survives, or becomes another Soviet Republic.

finlandfeb1940.jpg

A Change in the Plan?
My plans for Denmark and Norway will remain the same, but I have changed the French plans slightly. Instead of thrusting through Belgium to Ghent as Panzer first strike, I will instead go through the Netherlands to Rotterdam. This means it is a lot less likely that the French will be able to re-enforce their allies, as they are likely to be able to move significant forces into Belgium just as quickly as my Panzers move. The new plan also involves declaring war on the Dutch seperately and finishing them off before redeploying against the Belgians. It remains to be seen if once we move against the Dutch if the Belgians allow the French onto their territory. Hopefully they will not and we will be allowed plenty of time to redeploy.

Next Update should cover Denmark/Norway and the beginning of the French campaign. And it will be posted tonight, unless a meteor crushes my house. And I mean it this time, unlike the last time I said it :eek:o

Glad you're still following

And surprisingly, Franco is still holding out in Oviedo and La Coruna, so if I make it a quick campaign in France, I might be able to rescue him. I'd probably get Gibraltar into the bargain as well, but I can't decide whether thats good, or if it might make the game less of a challenge. We shall see!

Update in about 15 minutes.

The Dutch Defeated, The Norse Nerfed, The Danes Given A Stern Talking To.

After the Altmark Incident, it was evident that the Norweigans couldn't protect their own neutraility. So we decided we'd have to do it for them!

And of course, it was essential that we closed off the Copenhagen strait, so that our Baltic coastline remained unharrassed.

dowscan.jpg

Immediately, Lt. General Schorner took his corps of Mountaineers across the Danish fronteer, where they met brave, but weak resistance from elements of a division commanded by Mj. General Von Harbou

denattack.jpg

However, luckily for us, and Danish troops that didn't have a deathwish, the Danish government had no stomach for war, and quickly capitulated to Schorner's forces.

densurrender.jpg

Now our Navy and transport ships were free to pass through to invade Norway, and the first troops stormed ashore on the morning of the 9th of April to desultory resistance. Our naval forces faced a tougher battle, as the entire Norweigan navy sallied forth from Oslo, but they were soon put to flight with the loss of a capital ship.
norlanding.jpg

nornavy.jpg

Further troops landed shortly afterwards, and our advance began.
norattack.jpg

Further South, with all traces of Winter weather gone, our plans for the low Countries were put into action.
holdow.jpg

holattack.jpg

The Panzer forces quickly cut through Dutch defences and reached Rotterdam with shocking haste. However, the Dutch infantry fought back bravely and our infantry took heavy losses, but our superior numbers soon told and the Dutch fell back.
holattack2.jpg

Our tanks then turned North and struck towards the capital, which was quickly taken, and the remaining forces were trapped in two separate pockets, and they quickly surrendered.
holdeath.jpg

Belgiums continued neutrality throughout this period was indeed puzzling, considering that France flew significant numbers of aircraft to the aid of the Dutch, although not quickly enough to stop the advance of the Panzers.

The stupidity of the Belgians would not save them, however
belattack.jpg

On the other hand, the Norweigans weren't stupid, and lacking enough forces to defend their coastline, had concentrated in Oslo and Trondheim. However, being smart was not enough to save them
oslo.jpg

Will the French be able to come to the rescue of the Belgians and halt the relentless advances of the Wehrmacht? Will the British come to the aid of the Norweigans?

We can only hope they do not - for Germany must, and shall be victorious.

(I'll likely need two more updates to cover the Battle of France, as it'll likely take a while and be screenshot heavy. Or the French might collapse and I'll go give the creators of DAIM a stern talking to :p
Either way, France should be dead and buried by tomorrow night)

Has been surprisingly easy. When I did the Battle of France last time (before I had to reinstall ) it was very tough and a bit touch and go whether I'd actually win. Should make for a good update. Hopefully I'll get another one up tonight.

Fall Gelb - The Invasion of France and Belgium

All troops jumped off in good order on the morning of May 5th, and initial objectives were well on their way to being achieved, when on May 7th this happened:
goebbelsdead.jpg

It appears that the Fuhrer had discovered Joesephs affair with a Czech actress, and had him quietly (I.E Painfully and violently) removed from the halls of power in the party. But this was all irrelevant to us at the front, although we were a bit sceptical that the Fuhrer should be worrying about such trivial things at such an important time.

On the battlefield, our Panzer forces broke through Belgium and attacked towards Reims backed up by every bomber the Luftwaffe could put into the sky, and initially it seemed that sheer weight of metal and healthly dose of surprise would lever the French out of the Province.
attackreims.jpg

bombreims.jpg

Sadly, however, the French rushed in Re-enforcements, and the committment to battle of newly arrived Commonwealth troops turned the tide in their favour and the attack was called off, with heavy losses.
reimsattackfail.jpg

reen.jpg

Around the time that this attack faltered, the Infantry of Army Group A moved forward towards Liege, supported by bombers diverted from the Reims attack. Unlike in Reims though, the bombers inflicted vast matierial and personnel losses upon several French divisions.
liegeattack.jpg

At this point, we thought it prudent to ask our comrades in Intelligence for an appraisal of the enemies strength
intelligence.jpg

Ah. Oh Cock. Oh well, on with the show!

By now the French had re-enforced Reims to a point where there was no hope of a break through. Therefore, we needed a new plan - the Panzer forces would be redeployed North, and cut through Central Belgium in order to knock the Belgium government out of the war, and bring our frontline into France proper.

newattack.jpg

55 divisions of Army Group B under General Von Kapuisch began the attack. Intital observations were very promising, as the French were simply outnumbered and possessed few tanks or anti-tank weapons.
namur.jpg

Great success!
namursuccess.jpg

With the attack a success, Infantry of Army Group A, supported by Armour attacked towards a now more lightly defended Reims, while our Schwerpunket came under attack in Valenciennes, but beat off multiple French counter attacks, which were weak in Armour.
reimsattack2.jpg

valenciennes.jpg

successy.jpg

Elsewhere. the advance continues unabated in Norway.
norway.jpg

In other news, the Nationalists will be defeated in a few weeks. They've been pushed back into La Coruna, and are under heavy attack.

Next update should hopefully be tomorrow. And its taking me longer to edit the pictures and write the update than it is to play the game

Mmmh so the Manstein plan is almost a failure.

Why I usually dash for Normandy - it's a longer hook, but the Maginot troops take longer to reach it, which means your breakthrough is more solid by the time they do, and you get to maul the BEF before the French and British have time to coordinate properly.

The Defeat of Belgium

Fresh from our latest success at Reims, our infantry attacked towards the Belgians capital at Brussels and quickly broke through. Sadly, however, the French counter attacked further South at Reims and our newly won gains were given up
brussels.jpg

reimsdefeat.jpg

Roughly half our tank forces then moved northwards to support an infantry attack towards the few remaining Belgian defences around Ghent.
ghentattack.jpg

Shockingly, at Namur, French armoured forces broke through a weakly defended sector of our front, and recaptured some territory. So we decided to get an updated intelligence appraisal.
namurlost.jpg

frenchforces.jpg

Hmm, either our intelligence agents had been hitting the bottle earlier, or the Luftwaffe has been doing an above excellent job.

While we pondered this, a laughably weak French counter attack was beaten off at Ghent
ghentcounterattack.jpg

Despite the French failure, elsewhere amongst the Allies bravery was rampant
oslolost.jpg

The 6 mountain divisions we had in Norway were all up North around Narvik destroying the remnants of the Norweigan army. Between Moi I Rana and Oslo the only defensive troops available were the headquarter guard troops of General von Hammerstein-Equord's Norweigan Headquarters stationed at Bergen. These troops were also down at about 2/3s strength as well due to air attack from long-range British bombers flying from Sunderland. Nervous times were afoot.

Back in France however, another offensive jumped off with the target of Calais
calaisattack.jpg

This trapped 4 divisons in Dunkirk, which were swiftly eliminated.
encircle.jpg

Infantry then moved forward to take over the positions won by the Panzers. This freed 18 mobile divisions to redeploy to Lille, and then strike forward towards the French capital. Intelligence reports also indicated a favourable situation, with our front line strength now clearly above French.
frenchforces2.jpg

parisattack.jpg

Then. Triumph! On the evening of June 21st our Panzers broke right into Paris, and French rear guard troops fled in panic into the countryside, leaving only a few brave snipers and some unlucky troops cut off by our advance to offer resistance inside the capital.
paristaken.jpg

Finally, in Norway, Australian troops had moved forward to retake most of the south of the country, but 3 newly trained mountaineer divisions were rushed into Bergen under the command of the newly promoted Lt. General Ringel.
norwaysituation.jpg

Elsewhere in the world, the Nationalists have been pushed off of mainland Spain, but not annexed  I'd imagine they'll disappear in a few days, or when I reload the game.

Can the French restore the situation? Will Australian grit and bravery triumph in the chilly lands of Norway? Will Britain get off it's lazy ass and put ground troops into France? Will I accept the Vichy event?

Only one way to find out........

To Me, To You - No Peace In Paris

Beyond Paris, there was pretty much only open countryside between our leading forces and the coast, so after a brief meeting of the top Generals, it was decided to thrust to Cherbourg and trap the remaining forces of the French Northern sector, and the few remaining Belgian troops. Our Infantry was redeployed to hold the positions captured by our Panzer troops. The attack jumped off in good order in darkness on the morning of the 22nd.
avranches.jpg

2 days later, we received some bad, but not unexpected news
spainannex.jpg

The remaining Nationalist troops either gave themselves up to the Republicans or melted away into the countryside. Franco and his government escaped on the few remaining ships possessed by the Nationalists and were granted asylum in Italy.

Now, back in France....
parisdefeat.jpg

Seems the French managed to make use of what remained of their rail network to quickly move forces North. Our infantry had not yet had time to create proper defensive positions in the city, and retreated back across the Seine with moderate casulties.

In order to try and divert French attention, we commenced our third major attack against Reims, which by now lay in ruins. Ruins bravely defended by elements of 9 French and South African divisions. Bravery was not enough to overcome the weight of over 400,000 men of the Wehrmacht, and they were forced to fall back.
reimsattack3.jpg

reimsbattle.jpg

Shortly after the success of this attack, we counter-attacked across the Seine towards Paris in the hopes of catching the advancing French troops off-guard as they milled around in the capital. This was initially a success despite being a wholly infantry attack and was only about 250,000 strong, compared to the estimated 400,000 French troops that had previously broken our lines in Paris.
parisattack2.jpg

Unfortunately, we discovered this was because the French had either cleverly held the bulk of their forces in reserve, or that most of their infantry were too busy enjoying not having to risk being shot while they indulged themselves in the streets of Paris. The French counter-attack drove us back to our initial start line with further worrying casulties.

Once again, we tried to divert the attention of the French commanders by advancing south into Compiegne. Sadly, either the French generals had decided this thrust wasn't as vital as their effort to secure their capital, or the French communication system had broken down and they were unaware of the scale of the attack.

This encircled 2 French armoured divisions, of a not exactly numerous French tank force, in Namur, which were promptly wiped out by infantry of Army Group A as the tanks ground to a halt lacking fuel and ammunition. The commander of the force, Charles De Gaulle however managed to escape the encirclement, together with a limited amount of the division staff. This was a major disappointment, as he was one of the leading French commanders, and his capture would have been a blow to their morale.

However, there was soon to be massive shock at High Command. With the French now resecure in Paris, as our infantry was too disorganised to attempt another attack, they turned their forces around and attacked our Panzer troops in Argentan. Despite being near full strength, our tanks were forced to give ground to a mix of competant French armoured tactics and the almost suicidal bravery of certain elements of Infantry. The Reich possessed a large enough Merchant Navy to supply a force numbering 18 divisions with fuel and supplies, but escorting the ships past both the French and British navies, under the watchful eye of the RAF....this would indeed be a task of the highest magnitude.......

Side Note: Front in Norway remains the same, but 3 divisons have redeployed from Narvik and are marching South from Trondheim towards the lead Australian Forces.
