I'm at least back on line for a short time so here goes.
Saxony
January 1570
August was still feeling the pressure from his nobles following the debacle with Elizabeth I of England. There were rumors of plots to overthrow him and he took them seriously. What he needed was a diversion to take some of the heat off of him. A war would be perfect but it just wasn’t possible right now. However he had another brilliant idea or at least he thought it brilliant. Friesen had proven to be the weak link of all the provinces in Saxony. It seemed to be the first province attacked in any war Saxony found itself in so it occurred to August that the time had come to create a vassal of Friesen. When he notified the nobles of his plans they were unsure of the wisdom of the act. August pointed out that they would receive part of the income of Friesen and not have to pay for any of the upgrades that the province wanted. The nobles grudgingly came around to the idea and August signed the order. The people of Friesen sang the praise of August and danced in the streets. The first thing they did was to change the name of their country to Holland. At first all went according to plan and there was peace throughout the land but then a strange thing happened. Holland decided not to play by the rules.
November 1570
A new center of trade opened in Holland. At the same time Willem III von Kleve of Gelre decided to join the new country of Holland forming a new republic. Suddenly Saxony found itself with a stronger member of the alliance than it had planned or should I say stronger than August had planned. The nobles at first were not pleased with August until he pointed out that they now shared in the wealth of not only Friesen but also Gelre. This sudden increase of gold in everyone’s pockets muted the protests and August started patting himself of on his back. Little did he know that you can’t change the course of history without a few strange repercussions popping up now and then.
(OOC) I don’t know if I triggered the event or if it was programmed to happen. I know that Holland is going to form but at this moment? It seems strange that by chance I let Friesen go as a vassal just at the time that Holland was suppose to start. I haven’t watched in the past to see the year that Holland is formed. Would it have happened if I hadn’t let Friesen go?
December 1570
Elizabeth I of England showing great magnanimity graciously grants Saxony military access. August is glad she didn’t hold a grudge. Austria declares war against Poland. August watches to see which of these giants’ blinks first. A variety of smaller gnat sized countries join the two heavy weights but August knows that they will play little part in deciding the winner of this contest.
February 1571
The Netherlands agrees to join our alliance. August thinks of himself as the greatest diplomat of his age.
(OOC) I didn’t want to Gelre/Holland to get away!
November 1571
After the titanic struggle was over Poland paid Austria 87d for peace. If August had paid for a ticket for this fight he would be demanding his money back.

February 1573
The monarchs of the Alliance headed the funeral procession. Behind them came the nobles of the great houses followed by the various minor nobles that you could find by shaking any family tree if you shook it hard enough. Everyone realized that an era had passed with the death of Anton I. He had led Oldenburg for so many years that it was odd to think of never seeing his old bearded face again. Anton had died peacefully in his sleep, which just showed that anything was possible. His son Johann VI walked with the other monarch at the head of the procession looking neither right nor left. The young man was already showing that he was feeling the pressure of being king. The procession wound itself into the church and the common people crowed around the entrance trying to see and hear what was happening inside. And so another king has died. "Long live the King."

April 1575
Luxembourgh declares its independence from France. Who would believe that such a little country could change the course of a war and create the havoc that was about to fall on Saxony. France calls on its allies to help but only Saxony agrees. August sends out messages to Oldenburg and The Netherlands to rejoin the alliance, which they do, and they both join the war against Luxembourgh and unfrotunately against Hessen. August doesn’t send a message to dear Elizabeth because there is still the possibility that she will try to talk him into becoming a vassal once again. Just thinking of Elizabeth in her hip high black leather boots with her whip, towering over a chained August demanding that he become her vassal causes August’s blood to pound through his veins. No it was a better idea that England leave the Alliance and leave it now!

Oldenburg helps France besiege Artois, which is controlled by rebels.
