According to the dev diaries VIC 2 will not have buying and selling land as a diplomatic option. As VIC 2 will be not be as event driven as VIC 1 I'm left wondering how a player as the USA or any other country would go about aquiring Alaska.

In a game I played as Canada I bought Alaska off the Russians as the USA hadn't.

Has anybody heard or read anything about how a land purchase my occur now ?

As a fare amount of American expansion was carried out with a cheque book I would be a little disapointed if it wasn't in the game in some form.

It would be nice if some regions (with low national pops) had "sell" or "buy" decisions tied to them.

A decision (for Russia) is about the only way I can think of, sadly.

I don't see anything sad in it. IMO the decision system is great for precisely this kind of individual historic events. If the Russians are in need of money, they have the option to take the decision: but if they're not, it would be silly to have an event firing at a fixed date.

I guess it will pop up as an decision for USA if they choose the "Manifest Destiny" otherwise I can only see this if Russia slips down from it GP status and another GP get an SI on Russia.

(this starts to look like an army manual with all abbreviations, ask if you dont understand :D)

What does USA mean?;)

And now seriously. The Alaska purchase can be easily done as decision for USA and Canada (or UK if it stills own the land). It is hard to imagine other nations having interest. AFAIK the only reason for the Alaska purchase was to make the British Columbia joining USA more of a option. At least that is what my history professor specialized on political and economical history of USA told us :)
So there could be only two serious buyers. The one who can get BC and the who doesn't want it to go.

I would say that to have the decision to buy Alaska you should have to have a major presence in the northern Pacific. To abstract this, I would do ownership of Vancouver, Seattle, San Francisco, or somewhere in Japan and on the Siberian coast. That way, Russia would have options of who to sell it to but it would still be realistic.

PI's policy regarding such things-because <1% of people are dicks and abuse a system, it has to be taken out.

Although you express yourself in too much harsh way for me, I 100% agree with the spirit of that statement. Who wants to ruin his games can do it. I don't care. Why should I? All the cheats and exploits are possible through changes in saved games, so it doesn't really solve anything :)

Ya it makes no sense to take out that option, its so easy to cheat anyways this is just hurting those of us who like to use the feature. Cheating gets very boring in a game like this and why do devs even care if people cheat? Its not like were going to have national tournaments with this game akin to Counter Striker!

No, they removed it because the AI never used it. Why should they take the time to include a feature that the AI would never use?

It was useful for a human player to fix boundaries. While it was less common in Victoria as opposed ot say EU2, the AI still obtained some rather strange boundries at times.

If you're using the buy and sell province function to fix boundaries you might as well just go into the save file and fix them there. Especially if it's from AI-AI wars, since it's pretty hard to fix those boundaries ingane.
