Let me set the backstory here before I begin my rant....
I am playing as Georgia on very hard difficulty. I am desperately trying to stave off becoming part of the Ottoman Empire. At the particular point in the game, that involves keeping The Ottomans from gaining territories in Chimera. The Ottomans declared war against Genoa first. Genoa not only had alliances, but also some trade partners. Genoa is also part of the HRE so Austria, as a co-belligerent, so they had many options for help. Interesting course of events, however, as the AI decided Austria did not need to join/should not join the war.
As you can all imagine, Genoa is not fairing well and so, if I want to keep Chimera from having Ottoman territories in it, I have to take action. I decide my best option is to take Genoa's provinces myself. I go to declare was and I see that Austria will join the war as a co-belligerent because they are the HRE emperor. WTF! These lands are not part of the HRE. On top of that, they did not come to the defense of Genoa when The Ottomans declared was on the same lands. I grumble to myself and sit and continue to watch Genoa lose the war. They are losing so badly, in fact, that Savoy decides to declare war on the too. And, what would you know...Austria sits out this war too.
Paradox....WTF!!!!! This is the kind of crap that makes players call your AI a cheater. For me, I enjoy the hard difficulty, IF the AI is held to the same rules that I am. NO ONE likes when a game rules are slanted against their favor, and in EUIV, the AI decides who and when to enforce rules. The AI should not give itself free passes so it can, in the long run, use these opportunities it gives itself to screw over the player.
This is far from the only time I have caught the AI doing this, but this was so blatant, so obvious, that I had to come here and call bullshit on this one Paradox.
