When I mod AI files there's several lines which I don't understand or I don't want to change. If I just delete these lines from new AI files, does AI file then use the default ai file for it? Or what it does?

If it is the first file loaded by that country, it will use hardcoded defaults as fillers (not desirable); in previous Paradox games the softcoded default.ai was used as a filler instead (almost always desirable), don't ask me for any explanation as to how someone came up with the bright idea to change this.

If it is a later switch, it will only overwrite current settings with matching parameters in the new file while leaving the rest unchanged (almost always desirable).

Which Paradox game are you referring to?
In HOI2_1.3a my understanding is that it will always try to load the soft defaults if present, but you can tab out and then it loads the hard-default.

And I sure it does so as well with any new country introduced after game commencement.

Have things changed with DD or ARMA?

If there is an incomplete starting AI file in DD, it will use hardcoded settings. This caused me many problems before I figured out what happened, now it "only" causes about half as many.

Which brings out my long standing observation. The soft defaults or as named default.ai and minor_default.ai should be the most complete, up to date and sophisticated AI's of all.

The individuality of country behaviors could be handled by particular ai switching for each country as needed. Like the majors.

However, in vanilla Lothos choose to reverse this order of development and poured a huge effort into individualized ai's particularily majors and when time ran out so did ai coding for minors.

Vanilla defaults are patently pathetic and so too most ai minors' behavior in game.

(my opinion, ones mileage may vary) ;)
