Yeah i haven't really brought the balance issue up yet.. I better do that..

The Scandinavians are industiral wizards and have lots of IC while the Franks are poor and have medium IC due to the constant harrassment from England.

The English and Scandinavians are mostly Naval nations so their other tech-teams will become less "intelligent".

The Kievan Rus' is an underdeveloped nation, lots of land, lots of wilderness basically. They have masses of manpower, but no good army structure or doctrines. Nor do they possess the industrial power to steam-roll Europe.

The Byzantines are a peace-loving democracy (Sounds silly dosen't it. But who knows what events can do.) and they focus on industry and less on anything else.

The Franks are like the Germans in Vanilla, great potential with their armies. Enough said.

To summerize;

POWERS;
Scandinavia - Power of the Sea and Industry
Byzantine - Power of Peace, Industry and Fortresses
Kievan Rus - Power of the Motherland
Frankish Empire - Power of the Army
England - Power of the Sea

WEAKNESSES;
Scandinavia - Bad Land Techteams
Byzantine - Bad armed-forces in general
Kievan Rus - Bad doctrines
Frankish Empire - Bad IC
England - Bad IC

I don't know if this is enough to make it even, feel free to comment and straighten things out.

Well, the simplest solution is simply to treat everything but the FE and the Kiev Rus as a sideline. Neither of the naval powers would pose much of a direct threat to them, and the Byzantines could quite easily be imagined as the Italians of the Great War. Better to have them on your side than not, but not a great impact.

My biggest concern in this case, though, is the manpower issue. Without the annhilation incurred by the Mongols, you *might* have a big manpower advantage in Kiev over the Frankish. But regardless, its a monster.

I wouldn't rake Kiev's doctrines over the coals too harshly. The Frankish should have an advantage, sure, but if its a 7 million man army vs. a 10 million man army, its not much of a firepower vs. manpower match.

You might consider giving Kiev the same sort of doctrine path as the SU, but lowering the historical years of some of the early doctrines. Kiev shouldn't be a pushover.

I like your point..

The only real difference is the destruction on the Western front, e.g the war between the Franks and English. They have been completely drained of manpower. So a war between Kiev and the Franks would destroy them.

You're right about Byzantine, they should just be a B-character.

The first war will start through a event chain in August 1937 and it will be about Gotland and Åland. Scandinavia will claim the islands, and the Kievan Rus' will (hopefully) deny. And so a grand war begin. Scandinavia will declare victory when Åland and Gotland are taken, and Kiev will declare victory if they occupy Finland.

Hello there :)
Interesting idea you got there!
As being a fan of alternative history myself, I am willing to join!

I have some experience in making maps, if you want me to do that?
Just because I like this idea so much, I will start now on the map anyhow :p

If you want me in the team, maybe we should discuss things in detail?

If you ask me, it would be interesting to include more of the world, but maybe thats just me?

I prefer to make it simple and focus on one idea. It would be too complicated if we were to simulate the entire world with these new settings.
Only Europe.

Only Europe it is :)

The biggest problem I see, is that the scenario will become boring..
Might want to have some fun events?
For an example: High dissent in the frankish empire might encourage germans to revolt, in other words to create independent german duchys like bavaria, hannover etc etc?
Also events like countries leaving the union of kalmar and such?

Best not. I lurrrrrrrrrv the idea. However the whole Paternal Autocrat thing seems a little boring. I think it's possible to change the names of government types in the editor, not sure how though.

Polands territorries (except Przemysl and Zamosc and Prussia on the east) should be included into the Frankish empire. That's for sure. Poland was closer to the west than to the east (Poland was, and still is catholic), and if it ever would be annexed, it would be by the Holy Roman Empire. Also Poland, in the opinion of Otton III (the guy who wanted to create the first "european union" ;-) consisting of Slavs, Germans, Italians and Franks) was meant to be the leader of Slavs under the rule of the Roman Empire.

So how about that? Maybe even change the name of the Frankish Empire to "The Holy Roman Empire" (let's say Otton III lived a lot longer than in reality and all he's life, he spent on creating the HRE in it's current borders).
