The ability to play as the same empire with a friend would be great for a title like this. To clarify two or more players have full control over the same empire.

What do you guys think of this?

I completely agree and posted something like that a few days ago in an old thread. Maybe yours will get more attention.

This game mode could allow us to divide the tasks between two or more non-competing powers, roleplaying or powergaming. And it wouldn't be hard to implement, since the only thing which seems to prevents it is the flat interdiction to use the console in multiplayer. This could be a toggle and we could trust people not to use cheats.

Maybe, however, it is more deep than that. Maybe playing the same country, clicking at the same time to do different things, could crash the game. However, I once played an EUIV game with a friend and it worked perfectly (thought we were not clicking at the same time). Normally, nothing has fundamentally changed between EUIV and Stellaris, so it should still be possible...

Yeah being able to divide tasks would not only speed up the game but also make it less tedious when you have a large empire.

Implementing something like this doesn't sound to be that difficult. But of course we have no idea how the engine works and to implement it properly would probably need some work under the hood so to speak to avoid crashing that you mentioned.

But non the less so would this game benefit from a gamemode like this

also allow a player to play specific sector ? (and thus chose whether he plan independence?)

This could be an interesting variant, especially if sectors are able to create their own military fleets. The AI wouldn't necessarily do it, but a player might do it, contributing to the empire total force limit, thought.

I bump the thread because I managed to open a save game in a lisible manner. It is not very hard, you just have to transfort the ".sav" extension to ".zip", then modify the files in the zip. I saw the trick in the forum and I'm sure many people already know it, but it might be useful to some.

Now, I need to find how to either :
1. Allow the console in multiplayer, which would hopefully allow me to switch empire during the game and join my mate.
2. Make the game accept my modification in the save granting the same country to two different players.

I tried everything I could imagine, but I failed. I didn't find how to proceed.

Well, I'm going to shamelessly link to my own thread, because I found a workaround yesterday. Sure, events are a bit weird, but it mostly works.

Well, I think that they wanted to do this, because they added the Federation system which sort of acts like one nation controlled by a bunch of people. I have no idea why they did not just add the option for Co-op from the beginning like with their other games, but I think it might have to do with the fact that in this game, it is a great deal more like Civ than anything else they have done, and as such you might find it harder to play together as one nation at the beginning of the game.

It might depends on characters. With my boyfriend, we had no problem to divide the game in two components : planetary management and military/exploration. We usually consult ourselves before taking a technology. The only problems are repeatable events. It is certainly possible to just do a "coop mode" since there is one in EUIV and I don't think the games are fundamentally different.

Yeah, hopefully they will add it in.
