Delareon makes an interesting point. Do the theatres tell you when they have spare units? This would actually be useful even for an advanced player.

So is the Theatre AI omniscient or what? If not, and it's estimates depend on your current intelligence level, then this new feature becomes somewhat less useful - if I have the intel then I can just count the enemy divs myself.

Hopefully it will improve the AI-controlled country's response to events - far more important, I think, than any improvement to the whole AI-assistance mechanism.

Side-note:
I know paradox is really interested in seeing AI-assisted play work, but I really don't know how popular it would be, even if it worked perfectly.

Side-side-note:
Lmao - King not a native English speaker? What's his first language? Scots-Gaelic?

just keep in mind, some of us are terribly new and would NEED that ai to help out a bit. It feels pretty awesome to have an AI do all this for you, great learning tool. Also, it makes you feel like you are never quite alone in this fight :)

You can also see if any of your allies are planning invasions or need help on their fronts.

How about your enemies' theatres? Will it provide us also some info about enemy plans and intentions with the accuracy based on current intel?

Sadly, no. That would be cool, but we would need a "sneaky" AI which would plan false operations to throw you off...

A general remark on videos:
Seeing footage while a narrator is explaining things is quite alright, but could you perhaps next time show things that are more related to the currently presented subject? It seemed like just randomly selected sequences from FtM. The only thing that was interesting for me to see were the new strategic resource icons on top of the production window. Otherwise, an audio presentation would have been fully sufficient this time.
It worked well for instance with the video section on the new partisan system last time.

I also agree with the one post regarding music. While on the on hand it sounds quite nice with that music in the background, on the other hand as a non native speaker, I find it sometimes rather difficult to understand Mr. King ("The King's Speech!"). Of course, he is not a media person, and he doesn't have to be. He is the game designer and (I guess most of us would agree) we want to hear (and see) what's new and exciting first hand. But I would really appreciate an easier to understand narration. Perhaps you could even put up subtitles.
Thanks!

The footage, which is by me (while the audio is by King), is actually recorded some time before the video DD is actually thrown together. At the time Strat resources hadn't been mentioned in detail yet etc, so it should have been a nice "reveal", but it ended up taking longer than expected to merge into this DD. But yes, if we keep doing video DDs they could be better.

It's certainly an interesting idea...but I am not sure if it's feasible. It's hard enough to make a sensible AI, making one that can carry out it's own plan while also setting up false leads to fool players spying on it...I think it will make Doomdark's hair fall out :)
We'll what's possible if/when we make another x-pack.

I like the concept of having more useful theaters simply because it would allow me to let the AI manage some lesser theaters while I focus on the main battle, hopefully without having to worry about the ai sending troops into areas where they will be out of supply. Something that is a major problem if you don't have enough convoys built the AI seems to think sending more troops will solve the out of supply problem rather than pulling back.

Yes i agree with u. From what i have seen if u have the AI turned on it seems that when a unit runs out of supply or organisation the symbol Lack of troops shows up in the top left corner of the screen. I guess becouse the untis are combat inaffective the Theater AI asks for more troops which results in the AI sending more & more troops to an area which could be bad in supply allready.

Hi,

as I just did a small translation in german for those that have "problems" with some nice accent. Entwicklertagebücher des-Add-ons " For the Motherland" frei übersetzt

I also had some questions come to my mind.

1.) Buidling new stuff is great, what about the already mentioned "Theater-interaction"? IIRC it was mentioned but not in detail so far. Wouldn't it be usefull for tactical decision of the military-AI?(or even a new "layer"-Operational-AI?) Or is the strategic-building a whole new part and not a substitution?

2.) Will the new strat-building-AI also be a part of the lua again? Can Lothos reveal already someting about it?(As in the initial production lua, the building was made upon the military-AI-need, and then was replaced with a new concept of lua based code.)

3.) How can the player influence the ai buid up(rough). With decisions like "Small Invasion set-up", "strategical bombing campaing" etc.?

4.) As described here:AI-fighting-and-not-keeping-units-together Can that be taken care of? Or is it already too for FTM with the new AI?

I'm really looking forward to all of this. :)

Kind regards,
Chromos

The game is crying out for more dialogue between the player and the AI. The AI works out what it wants to do and tells the player what resources it needs. what it does not do is tell the player what it wants those resources FOR. This is critically important for the player in the assignment of high end resources.

1. The AI wants resources but, lets take france 1941...
How many air assets does it want to DEFEND airspacee
How many does it need to mount a suitable counter attack for landngs
How much of this request is to take offensive action against the UK
How many naval pieces is it asking for to protect the coast
How many resources is it asking for to threaten general Franco
How many resources is it asking for to mount seelion
and on and on...

2. there needs to be dialogue with the AI from the player which will cause it to rethink the plans it is making.
Such as...

- You cannot have any more aircraft
- you cannot have any more naval assets
- You cannot have any more fuel
- there is no more manpower for infantry
- You are a low priority theatre - deal with it
- you will never be invading Sardinia so forget about it
- Use MR fighters for more than just escorting you moron
- use aircraft to bomb convoys
- Do not conduct ASW patrols off the british Coast with surface uints you idiot

Having these kind of options to INSTRUCT the AI about what the player wants might well allow the AI to perform much better with more limited resources. It would, for example, stop a Balkan theatre asking for panzers and start using cavalry for that role. It would

3. the AI could then start to present the player wth longer term options.
- if you give me some tanks I could invade Bulgaria
- if my force was more mobile I could breakthrough the stalemate
- if we had more interceptors the communists wouldnt be losing so many tanks
- all we need are a few transports and we can capture lenningrad by sea
- if i had 50,000 paratroopers we could win

this kind of interaction with the AI would lead to a massive increase in player satisfaction, and an Ai that players had more confidence was actually doing what he wants it to. Dialogue is the key here and all this extra info (which part of me suspects is a repainting of the old church) can only be a part of it.

I see what you did there...

Also, I don't mean to be pedantic, but I noticed a small spelling error in the video. Starting at 2:00 mins in the diplomacy tab, down in the decisions area beginning is mispelled as 'begining'.

Anyway, it looks and sounds promising. Cheers for the update.

Edit: I noticed in the espionage tab that we can now see ministers. Excellent idea! I also noticed that John Curtin no longer has the no_minister_type bonus. That was quite annoying...
