What I'm not quite getting in simple terms is: how is the AI supposed to know, what I might not know myself right now about what I'm going to do in let's say 2 years of game time?

I think what HOI3 would need desparately right now is not the new big visionary features like the new highly ambitious AI planning system and even no new strategic ressources
but solid hard work.
It speaks for itself that the visibility of the foreign ministers is one of the most welcome new features.
Strategic ressources are already in the game and they are called metal, rare materials and oil. AoD has shown how to make them really strategic and deep
by making them really hard to come by and by adding plants for oil and rare material conversion.
And do we really need a new partisan system or the undeclared war? Yes, the game will get more complex. But will it get deeper?
Sure if all these things will work perfectly and if there is nothing more urgent to fix then why not. But there are.
Fixing the military AI control for the player is a hard problem but important because the number of provinces is too much for many players
on full manual control. But even here if we use our phantasy small and simple things could help like the possibility for some easy manual intervention now and then.
I love to be proven wrong but I think even after this expansion AoD will remain the number one because of unprecedented deep game play.

speak for yourself but being able to see foreign ministers is the feature a care for least. the rest you mention like fuel conversion is already modeled while seperate buildings could not be used by an AI properly.

Why wouldn't the AI be able to handle separate buildings for fuel and rare material conversion properly?
At least it has already a concept that rare materials and fuel are important which the AI designer can build on.
Do you think the new strategic ressources are easier to handle? Will the AI understand that it needs to conquer some uranium to build the bomb?
If you say that any new feature requires some effort to teach the AI and in the end makes it harder for the AI then I fully agree.

Regarding the AI telling me what I should produce these figures have always been lunatic. Is anybody really taking this seriously? Now it should get more accurate because the AI looks two years in the future?

Maybe I am a bit unfair and I am happy to praise FtM if my concerns are proven wrong.

it will understand that it has to conquer them. it already understands it needs the VP provinces. the problem with buildings is that it does not know how many it needs and when it should build them. most important is the placement. just observe where it puts the rocket test side... directly on the border to russia must be a really good place...

Come on, comsubpac. Understanding the strategic ressources means something like if I want to build the bomb then I need uranium by all means.
If not, as most countries then this uranium is totally useless. Not exactly the same as VP points. The story should be similar for the other ressources if you replace the bomb
by panzers or ships etc.

I think the number of factories can be scripted because it is known that Germany is low on rare materials etc. At least AoD has solved the problem
as it has a capable AI.

Do you think placing a building at a save place is a hard AI problem? A simple list of provinces for the major powers will do.

Can you please please please... not play music when someone is talking. It's hard to understand as it is but Chris is not a native English speaker and propably, most people watching it aren't either.

Ouch, his English is great and truly awesome, people that aren't speaking with an oxford English accent, (or American for that sake) they're great! (Diversity is king!)

He's got a point, though. When I am listening to French or German, I do not want too much distracting noise coming in with the words.

Masbe it's just a matter of balancing the volume better. King has such a rich Scottish accent, it's a shame to let it be obscured at all.

A more rational and clear point of view, agreed. Although, it should be easier to hear what he's saying when one actually can see him speaking.

Ahm, isn't King an english native speaker?

Anyway, Strategic Resources is the feature I'm looking forward the least in this expansion, IMHO it is just a distraction from the core gameplay (for me, VP and resources already sufficed).

What I'm really looking forward is the new AI tools and the multi-core enhancements. I like to give the AI control of my armies or corps, and understanding what they need is fundamental in that. But I am just as puzzled as to how will the AI understand what it will need.

I partially agree with you, perhaps they might speak slower, but often their pronunciation isn't as good as a native.

Ahm, isn't King an english native speaker?

Yes he is. (I think that, and he said in a developers video about having an grandfather(?) positioned on some arctic convoys).

So is the Theatre AI omniscient or what? If not, and it's estimates depend on your current intelligence level, then this new feature becomes somewhat less useful - if I have the intel then I can just count the enemy divs myself.

Hopefully it will improve the AI-controlled country's response to events - far more important, I think, than any improvement to the whole AI-assistance mechanism.

Side-note:
I know paradox is really interested in seeing AI-assisted play work, but I really don't know how popular it would be, even if it worked perfectly.

Side-side-note:
Lmao - King not a native English speaker? What's his first language? Scots-Gaelic?

I love the feature allowing me to let theatre AI control my armies. Just set objectives and stuff. Without it I don't think I would have time to play HOI3. Managing manually is a pain for me and I guess I am not alone. :)

Well, Scottish. Both the English and the Scots are pretty picky when it comes to these kinds of distinctions ;)

Hm that planning feature of the Theatre sounds nice.
One point i miss is that the Theaters talk to each other and are doing stuff like telling me that they need a battleship (or maybe a whole Corps) from another Theater (why always build a new one?) because that Theater says that it dont need that BS anymore. As a player i should have to accept that request but i wished the Theaters tell me not only to build everything new.
