I dont know about all other players, but i would like my 5 extra days of research. so that i can possible get the items researched in the right year and not have 3 to 4 years lag of research items that just cant be done in the historic year because of lack of time.

I think you're doing something terribly wrong if you get a 3 year lag in research because of only 5 days 'lost' each year

A 360-day year never bothered me in HoI2, but it's a good thing they changed it :)

The first alpha screenshots also had a day of the week, but they soon dropped that (due to space shortage).

I agree. They should change the standard RL (Julian?) calendar to HOI2 standards. It could be called the Paradoxian Calendar.

You do realize it's sort of that way because the relationship between Earth and the Sun works that way, right?

If it's really a 360-day a year, things like seasons will get screwy fast. You'll have your summer Christmas, white Spring Break, agricultural messes and all sorts of inconveniences in no time at all. And if you're going to change the days to make it fit...well, good luck with 6:00 A.M. middays and daily alarm clock maintenances.

HOI abstracts all that and get it wrong on purpose, to make it simple; the HOI's universe doesn't really have a sun like ours (duh?) so the seasons don't get screwy. But I don't see why making it right is wrong.

Phisic's laws don't care about personal opinions.
The time Earth takes to turn around the Sun can't be changed... still. ;)

You should all take note of the use of the phrase "we're forced into it by physical reality" in my original post. We cannot reasonably change the period of time it takes the Earth to orbit the Sun. We can, quite easily, change the number of HoI-days in a HoI-year. I'm all for a Gregorian calendar IRL, because it accurately represents reality. In HoI, there is no reality to force our hand, and so we have free rein to remake the world as it should be. Normally, that involves nuking Moscow or carefully avoiding any references to murdering millions of innocent people, but I personally favour extending that to the critically important issue of calendars as well.

there is a 365/366 calender properly in place.

:(

Oh well, seems I lose this one.

What was really annoying was when you started out with "1. Destroyer Flotilla", "2. Destroyer Flotilla", etc., then you start building them and you get "1st Destroyer Flotilla", "2nd Destroyer Flotilla". Even today in Vicky, the Austrians always have 1.-7. and 1st-7th (yes, in English) Linieninfanteriedivsion runing around, and you can't even fix it because you can't type periods in Vicky.

Yes, I found this mixture of historic division names at the beginning and generic or semi-generic ones as soon as you started to build very annoying as well. Especially concerning the numbers.
The same goes for the corps: 1. Korps, 2. Korps, 1st Corps, 2nd Corps …

EuIII tried to fix this and I hope the fact that there were many different unit types in WWII does not make it complicated again.
Even generic unit names should respect the system of the respective country concerning the way to name units and the way to write numbers (e.g. latin numbers, German 1., English 1st).

I'm guessing 'sarcastic' ?? Unsure though as I don't speak Swedish... the commment just seemed a little like that.

Anyway... Johan has already said there will be an accurate calendar, so I don't think it matters so much how it will get programmed or by whom... it just will.

Hehehe, but in all honesty how much effort and time would it take for them to fix the calendar issue  ?

That depends in large part on whether you include daylight savings and timezones ;)

Well, actually HoI2 does have seasons (winter conditions and stuff), but that's no problem. However, there is another thing that is wrong in HoI2 concerning the seasons, which is the length of night and day. Even in summer, the night is longer than day on northern hemisphere. That is because the night/day-border does shift north and south during the season cycle,. but it does not 'rotate' to make the day longer than the night during summer and vv. At the equinox (like today :D), the length of day and night is equal all around the earth, so the line should be 90° vertical. This does not work in HoI2, which put day-/night-warfare at a disadvantage (or advantage for night bombing) on the northern hemisphere, regarding of season.

I really hope that part gets fixed in HoI3.

Are you just talking about the day/night shading on the mini map? Yes, the shading is wrong, but if you watch the actual daylight hours (for example when planning your dawn attacks), the days are indeed longer in the summer and shorter in the winter. I can't recall whether it is inversed in the southern hemisphere though (very rarely do I get to do any fighting there...)
