I'm more surprised that the Incans and Aztecs don't rank into the third tier, conquered or not, they DID have a big influence over the time period due to the nature of what they were, how they were conquered, etc. Same could be said for the Iroquois and Cherokee, if only for flavor in North America.

....DLC? Paradox, take my money.

I would argue that the Papal States are now the most important/popular nation left out of tier 3... I can only hope that DLC will eventually rectify this... although I would agree with what has been said earlier about the USA-Byzantine reciprocity as well...

The Incas and the Aztecs were a non-factor in European affairs throughout their entire history. We wouldn't remember them today had the Spanish not taken notes during the process of squashing them underfoot. That is how irrelevant they are.

This is one of the most ignorant things I've heard all day. I'm sure we would just forget the massive pyramids, structures, carvings, artwork, and racial lineage they left all over the place. You do realize the Quechua language of the Inca has around ten million native born speakers to this day, don't you? That's a fourth of the population of modern Spain itself. Mexican lineage wouldn't even exist without the Aztecs. The largest pyramid in the entire world was Aztec built. You're saying they did nothing memorable aside from getting conquered by the Spanish? I'm trying to refrain from being rude and pointing out the obvious in a condescending manner but this was just over the top derpage.

He's saying that the Aztecs didn't really affect the inner politics of the Holy Roman Empire. Just because they built a lot of pretty pyramids doesn't make them a vital part of European politics.

May I remind you guys that this is Europa Universalis 4. Key word Europa. The whole point of the game is to focus on Europe's dominance in the world at this time period and how they effected the world around them. The entire game focuses on European wars and gradually spreads out over the world as the colonial age picks up. The Hundred Years War. The War for Spanish Succession. Napoleon. The list goes on. It's all in Europe.

Did the Aztecs and the Inca's make any large progress in technology? Did they have any effect in world affairs? Did they circumnavigate the world? Did they explore any weapons outside swords, spears, and bows? Did they contribute any large portion of science to modern medicine besides the inner workings of the human heart? Hell, would Europe even know they existed if they hadn't colonized the New World?

No. They were barbarians.

Well then, I guess that answers your question on why they aren't tiered. Have a good day chaps. You guys can quit being condescending whenever you feel like it.

His right in that their isolation and conquest renders them somewhat irrelevant to the "grand scheme of things". I myself am an avid proponent of better representation in the New World, but we can't fool ourselves and say that the Aztecs had a global influence. They would be engulfed in a larger process, European colonization, but that isn't the same thing.

If there was an award for condescension, this post would have surely given you a fair shot at it.

He's saying that the Aztecs didn't really affect the inner politics of the Holy Roman Empire. Just because they built a lot of pretty pyramids doesn't make them a vital part of European politics.

Uh, he quite simply said "We wouldn't remember them today had the Spanish not taken notes during the process of squashing them underfoot. That is how irrelevant they are."

I never once said they were a world power, but to say they are totally irrelevant and wouldn't even be remembered is false. He didn't just say they did nothing for Europe, he said they wouldn't even be remembered at all. That's just plain silly, as well as ignorant.
Oh, the largest pyramid by volume is at Cholula in Mexico. It's nearly twice the volume of the great Pyramid at Giza and said to be the largest monument ever constructed in history.
