Well here we are after two months of voting and it is time to begin rewAARding our very deserving AARs and writAARs!

We begin with comedy not just because it is the first category to vote upon, but also that it can be somewhat of a hybrid between the other genres. There is often crossover and tastes vary widely as to what is or not funny. Also it is one of the most difficult things not only to write but to sustain over a long period of time. Those that do should be rewarded and thus, here we go.

18 of our 23 voters nominated works here and while it looked to be a runaway race at first, it soon became much tighter. That said, the lead only changed one time and our eventual winner found a strong finish. It will come to few people as a surprise to find out that our 2022 Comedy AAR of the Year is...

Many congratulations to Peter for a well deserved victory! Coming in a strong second place is...

Still going strong and still loved. Finally, third place goes to...

I'd say an excellent top three. 10 more AARs were given nomination and they are listed below in the order of the vote:

I must say personally that I am tremendously honored to be included with these other works and writAARs and I think a firm congratulation is deserved to all! That someone was willing to list your AAR as one of the funniest or best comedy of the year is a huge compliment. I should say also a special congrats to @TheButterflyComposer for getting three different works nominated here. Again, this surprises no one. ;)

Of course, major congratulations goes out once again to @Peter Ebbesen for winning the whole thing! 20 plus years and still getting it done in AARland! Well done, sir.

Thank you to the voters for your time and tastes and look forward to the next reveal tomorrow. The thread is now open for your own congrats, thanks and discussion of the work(s) if so desired.

Good job to all! A sign of a active, living, AAR forum is how hard it is to pick who to put on top of one's lists.

The letter came by special delivery. Before I opened, I hit speed dial #3 for my attorney, Dewey Cheatem, as I was certain that I was being sued. But no, the gold embossed envelope contained a beautiful calligraphy invitation to the YAYAs. Dewey told me to behave and he would be on standby as he had to be at the Grammys, but that Anne Howe would be there as she had to help @coz1 count. They were discussing whether to use Florida, Arizona or Cheatem voting rules. As the valet parked my Pinto next to Eeyore, I realized that @iain_a_wilson had arrived from the dreary place known as Suenik. Expecting to be in a seat so high that Bob Uecker would cringe, I was pleasantly surprised when Adm. @diskoerekto, in full military regalia, waved me to a table near the front. My table was near the three of @TheButterflyComposer. While TBC's posse was munching on gourmet cheese and crackers, I was hoping that my table had at least a package of lance crackers. Adms. @Bullfilter and @Kazanov were quietly working the room. Bull was probably securing votes for a future election, while Kaz was surely putting together a trade deal. Adm. @DensleyBlair was quietly reminding the keynote speaker to have a moment of silence for the people along the Anatolian fault line. Capt. @JSB217118 and Despot Vukosin were having a conversation with Viola. Hopefully, they were trying to convince her to become a member of the Byzantine Security Agency (BSA), and not inviting her or one of her cohorts to winter along the Adriatic coast instead of the North Sea coast, as Sverker looked ready to go full berserker. BSA members must always be prepared. @SibCDC and @Tom D. were close enough to be Siamese twins. At the tables with the bear, bull and eagle centerpieces, sat @birdboy2000, @firezatswill9 and @liberty90. Adm. @Eurasia was with Lord Meow-Meow and the Empress. The latter two were appearing in selfies for $20. Coz and @Nikolai escorted Anne to a table with a donation box as the trio double checked their counts. (Cheatem Rules rule.) Pandemonium broke out as Dewey appeared with Beyonce, Shania and Taylor to entertain the crowd. TBC, @Peter Ebbesen and I were called to the front. @JerseyGiants88 would present the bronze medal to TBC, @volksmarschall the silver to me and @stnylan the gold to Peter. As Director Volks placed the medal around my neck, I woke up. Oh, what a wonderful dream, but I will never be invited to the YAYAs much less be even nominated. What is this digging into my ribs? A silver medal, I need to place it in my trophy case before Coz can do a recount.

Coz and Nik, thank you for everything that you do, whether writing, commenting or running the awards. I wish to thank everyone who voted whether for me or not. You voted, that is most important. I wish to thank everyone who wrote an AAR as each one is a labor of love and brings joy and entertainment to someone. Thank you to everyone who has read any of our adventures in Avon and anyone who has not please feel free to read. I hope that Eurasia and Peter do not mind my borrowing their characters. Hopefully this has not been too long, I have to go as it looks like a flying saucer has landed in the parking lot. @Macavity116 and @Von Acturus are stepping out. (If anyone wishes to be removed or added, please let me know and I will edit.)

I have a most unusual feeling of sympathy for TBC, splitting the vote across 3 works may well have cost him the top spot. But then if he insists on such ambitions plans and writing at such a ludicrous pace, but neglects to follow the approved Bullfilter method and use a team of trained emus for the actual work, then these things will happen.

In any event congratulations to our winners and the strong field of nominees.

Ged's Existential Nightmare continues to be my albatross. Mind you, Imperial Cheese is HOI4 and thus was not in the most popular area to begin with, and then was waylaid further, as one thoughtful commenter put it, by adopting the Monty Python school of comedy in which a majority of the situations were too surrealist or experimental to land as funny.

I did quite enjoy writing it though, and glad I finished it.

I am quite surprised Life of Brian was voted so high, considering I don't actually recall making it all that funny. That one was just a brief and broad summary of how the First Irish Empire took over the world.

I am only planning on two AARs this year, and only one should be a comedy (and also a mega campaign, which there weren't many of this year). Certainly if Tomorrow Belongs To Me ends up here, something has gone very badly wrong.
