I haven't done a mod in a long time but I thought I'd get back in the game with this mod I just came up with today. The concept is that the Articles of Confederation failed to get ratified due to the states holding claims in the west refusing to cede them. The negotiations fell apart and a few of the colonies went to war, which colonies I will flesh out as I flesh out the story. It will take place in 1836, as in vanilla.

original-thirteen-states-map.jpg

I don't have a map in-game as of yet but I have a list of countries I want to include from the start:

From Start:
*Florida - Spanish speaking with hispanic culture
Georgia
South Carolina
North Carolina
Virginia
Maryland
Delaware
Pennsylvania
New Jersey
Conneticutt
Rhode Island
Massassachusetts
New York
New Hampshire
*Louisiana - French speaking with french-like culture

Revolters:
Indiana
Illinois
Ohio
Michigan
Maine
Minnesota
Kentucky
Tennessee
Alabama
Mississippi
Vermont

I need suggestions on what flags I should use for the nations. I want to use colonial flags mostly or alterations of the state flag or just the state flag in certain instances. Also if you have the 50 states flag pack,(I think developed by raven) let me know as it would be very helpful to have.

EDIT:

Also any info or contributions relating to political parties, ideas for events, and/or a story line would be nice.

EDIT2:

This is what I have in-game so far:

ScreenSave0-1.jpg

The turquoise color is Connecticut in the West and Florida belongs to Spain. Maryland and Pennsylvania are both independent, they just share the same color right now.

i like this idea alot. Create events to allow New England TO Unify and maybe an event for a southern Military Alliance or a Southern Unification. Maybe some west Virginian Separatists Vermont Nationalists and Quebec Winning its Independence and allying with Louisiana.

Some suggestions territorial wise:

Dont give Georgia Baton Rouge:
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/1/13/Gacolony.png

Give it to the Louisiana Country.

Create an event to Unite the carolinas into one entity. Give them claims on one another.

Virginia looks too big and blobish only give it the territories of the modern states of Virginia, Kentucky, and west Virginia.

All that extra land in Ohio Indian and Illinois should be colonies not claimed yet and disputed amongst other nations.

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/2/24/Virginiacolony.png

Maryland fine give it claims on Delaware and Pennsylvania should have claims on all of Maryland.

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/a/a9/Marycolony.png

Delaware stays the same.

Pennsylvania is fine give it claims to Buffalo and Delaware

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/3/35/Penncolony.png

New Jersey is fine.

Give new york claims on New Jersey and events to make it a satellite or annex it. Let it control Vermont with events for Vermont independence similar to Texan Independence in vanilla. In the event it takes control of New jersey have some sort of event giving it claims to Delaware. Also give it claims to some Canadian provinces:

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/9/9a/Nycolony.png

Connecticut can have claims on Rhode island but besides that its fine. It should have events relating to unification with New England. It shouldn't ahve any territory or claims in Illinois Ohio or Indiana those places sparsely populated mainly with Indians, and shares no sea or land connection with Connecticut and would of been impossible to control.

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/7/76/Ctcolony.png

Rhode islands fine. Maybe a different name though... Like Providence?

Massachusetts should maintain control over Maine and claim on Easton. It should also have claims on New Hampshire and events to annex it or puppet in whether Massachusetts wants to go in the direction of a united New England or simply a Strong Massachusetts. If it does unite it will have problems staying united similar to the United States of Central America or Yugoslavia. New England can eventually have claims on All of New York and New jersey if it ever expands that far. It shouldn't have any of that and in Michigan and Wisconsin. All that land aroudn the great lakes and Ohioh Indiana and Illinois should be colonies of Great Britain Louisiana and Virginia with some unclaimed. Unclaimed ones can be possibly colonized by Pennsylvania or New York.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Masscolony.png

New Hampshire has claims on Vermont.

If Vermont wins independence it either becomes a puppet of New York Puppet of New Hampshire. If New Hampshire controls it it might eventually be absorbed into a New England. New England if formed will support vermont separation. If Vermont does gain its Independence it probably should have claims on New Hampshire to get access to the sea

Maine will be similarly fighting for Independence from Massachusetts.

FOr Ethnic Groups maybe change Dixie and Yankee into one "Anglo American" Maybe with a few Dutch and British Pops here and there and Irish and German Immigrants. A lot more "Franco American" pops in Louisiana and New England. Slavery Still Legal in southern states with events to abolish it. One emancipated they remain Afro American Pops. Native Americans pretyt small majority most being pushed westward.

Western Expansion is completely stopped by Mexico and Louisiana and Native Americans.

Lousiana and Quebec can merge to become New France and be either a dominion satellite or ally of France.

The rest of Canada can form Canada and be a dominion/satellite/ally of the UK.

There can be events to Unite The Northern Former United states and Former Southern United states or to unite all of it again but very very hard.

Texas should be removed form game since no Anglo Americans would of settled there.

All the States should be in some defensive pact against European Powers such as Britain and France.

There should also be Separation events for West Virginia Kentucky Tennessee Alabama and Mississippi. On top of the ones I mentioned for Vermont and Maine.

Events to rejoin Britain or become Britain Dominions and Satellites would be a nice option aswell.

I do not believe that there would be as much push for the colonies of British North America to join a confederation as there was historically. Without an expansionist neighbour to the south, it is quite possible that the Dominion of Canada would never be created (which in turn would most likely lead to other dominions such as Australia most likely never emerging as well).
