And for god's sake PLEASE save the wayward Yugoslavian division stuck and fighting for their lives in turkey (in the 38 scen). The poor bastards do their best to make it home over time but by 1940 they are still several provinces from Istambul (constantinoples)... I built radar stations just to watch their trek within the very unwelcoming Turkish landscape, I found myself having lots more fun cheering for them then actually caring how my own country was doing....

I came so close to allying with Yugoslavia and invading Turkey just to fight my way to them and save those brave souls!

Why would you want that fixed?

It added a great unusual element to the game , a lost part of an AI army actually trying to get home and kept you almost emotionally interested in what was happening! Why have that erased so you`re back to a stale uneventful Campaign?

Even if it`s an original error sometimes it`s best to leave them in!

We need better AI researching. It is pretty much broken right now, and while not immediately as apparent as the CG bug, it cripples the AI as badly.

I am playing a 1936 scenario game. It is now 1946.

The USSR has researched ONLY industrial resource and supply theory technology all of it beyond 1950 levels. It has done ZERO doctrines. It has done ZERO air/land/naval research.

Only some nice-to-have-stuff

First of all: Many thanks for your efforts!

One minor question regarding the diplomacy-screen:

Not all information is displayed, this can happen if it is in the "Potential" section or if the tooltip isn't big enough.

As Germany 1936, when moving the mouse over the "?" for the "Re-occupation of the Rhineland"-decision, in the tooltip there is no hint that this decision won't be available in 1937.
However, in the decision file, there is an "not = { year = 1937 }" (and in front of my PC, there is a confused Roland scratching his head about the missing decision )
(Maybe the Year=1937-condition could be moved from the potential-section into the allowed-section - that might solve the issue without changing the code)

As USSR 1936, when I move the mouse over the the button to start the "Begin the Great Officer Purge", the tooltip isn't big enough to display all information. For example, I find no information about the effects on the National Unity. Maybe some scrollable information?

Best regards,

Roland

PS: This is really just nice-to-have as there is a workaround (reading the decision files)

PSS: If my description is confusing, send me an PM and I will take screenshots with an explanation

Nice, this is one of the things I was hoping for, among with all the others you listed, of course. Thank you Johan, hopefully HoI3 will turn out to be a great game. :D Once the historicality is also improved, of course.

Please do not change the actual map mode!!!!!!
It is the most wonderful i have never seen...

i really agree with this, i don't want to lose the current terrain map i think it's amazing and i don't find any problem with using it. i don't want to go back to hoi2 . . .

also can we get to rename division templates in v1.2

Not sure if these changes have been mentioned yet:

1. Support Attacking. I don't know whether or not it's something that automatically happens, eliminated, or done different... but I'd like to not have to march on a province to do it.

2. Alliance "power ups" , seriously? The Commie free trade agreements is something that should be an ability of any nation. Also, if I want to trade metal for energy or something I should, I don't see the logic of HAVING to trade with money instead.

3. I can't declare war due to a high neutrality? As a complete authoritarian state? Are you joking?

4. Moving toward another government type is the biggest pain in the rear I've ever seen. It was hard in hoi2, but now it takes half the game to even move an equivalent slider amount in 3. It's a great attempt, but it's ridiculous.

5. The tutorial, while very creative and mildly amusing... doesn't get to the point. I don't want to hear a story of some goofy guy, people want information... and information in the tutorial is SURPRISING sparse for a game that should be more "user friendly" (even though I've played enough hoi2 to take over Russia as Luxembourg. :p)

Pros (Good things, yay!)

1. The map, it's beautify, it's pretty, it's good. Unnecessary, but good.
2. Overall graphic appeal, excellent. UI looks great, organization is good.
3. New Intelligence/Diplomacy/Etc tools, well developed in many respects.

I pre-purchased this game, the first game in my entire life I pre-purchased because I KNEW Paradox would make it awesome. Needless to say I was horribly disappointed that the game was released in such a condition. Such a condition that it is literally impossible that your 30+ beta testers could not have realized how jackified this game was compared to how it should have been and how it was compared to HOI2 (which rocks).

Now, I didn't come here to bash you guys, I love your company, I love your games (specifically hoi2), but this lets me down. I don't care what kind of excuse other people have... like your track record of doing this, and that I should have expected half a game on release. It's unprofessional, imo.

I KNOW you guys are working your hardest to fix it, I know you are. I am just frustrated. I know you guys will fix most of the issues, too.

I just wanted to vent my frustration, I hope you understand. :)

EDIT: When 1.2 is released, please give it to Valve so they can put it on Steam. I don't want my Steam version getting screwed up, if possible. I know that Paradox neglected to update HOI2 on Steam, as well (one of the expansions, at least).

Don't be stupid. He said map mode. That means there will be a new map mode or option to change the terrain map mode to more simple. Doesn't mean you'll lose your fabulous forests etc. lol.

Also, it'd be nice to be able to rename provinces like in EU3. I'd really like to see Primorsk's name corrected to Koivisto.

All this sounds good. :D Unlike many here I find the game completely playable, even on a mediocre computer, so this will all be an excellent bonus.

Thanks for all the hard work. When everything is worked out this game will be perfect!

I don't know if this has been mentioned before, but the brigades list under statistics should be replaced by a list of divisions, since brigades are almost always attached to divisions. It would also be useful to have the orders of the divisions displayed so that one can see which divisions don't have orders. It would be even better to have a unit's orders displayed when the mouse hovers over a unit.

I also think it would be more useful to have the unit's name displayed when the mouse hovers over it instead of the commander's name (or maybe both). At the present time, it can be very time-consuming to find a particular division. The way I usually do it is to take a higher level of command (say the army HQ), then go down the hierarchy until I find the unit. But this can be time-consuming if one need to find a number of units.

And BTW, when one clicks on a unit under the + sign at the top right, it un-pauses the game which can be annoying if one does not notice it.

Henri

+ 1 - this a major beef I have too, do you know how difficult it can be to find a specific division using the new system? Also while the number of brigades is important, I prefer to know the divisions too as they are the smallest manuveur unit by design.

Good though that you are taking the problems seriously but, honestly I can’t understand how you missed them to begin with.

There are levels of playability that you must be prepared to accept.

I like to think people here are intelligent people that can write a coherent sentence, not a bunch of juvenile spammers :)

Your far too optimistic Johan.

But this is good. A patch is despertaly needed. Not for diplomacy (though it may be an issue), but for speed.

My game works fine until I start WW2. Then near crawling speeds. I'll put the game down for a few weeks I guess.

AI use of diplomacy needs to be adjusted, so that Germany influences the required people. Currently Germany is the only actual playable Axis nation.

Asia needs to be rebalanced, to give Japan better odds of taking some of China.

Desicions need to be made so they aren't immediately activated by the AI.

Finland needs to stop trying to align with the Allies.

The AI needs to protect it's borders more evenly. Guarding northern borders alot more than southern ones is silly.

Starting technology needs to be made to give Germany (and maybe Japan) more of an advantage.

More events and decisions need to be added.

The Austrian Anschluss, Fate of Chechoslovakia and other desicions need to ignore the fact that Poland, Austria or Chechoslovakia have dedcided to join the Allies. Technically they were under Allied protection and the Germans still went for them, the game doesn't represent them.

Some AI randomness (even if very low) needs to bee thrown into historical events and decisions, to spice up the outcomes a bit more.

But those are all nice to haves. Initially I would be very pleased to have a HoI3 that runs (relatively) smoothly on my computer, wthout it slowing to a crawl during wars.

I thank the Paradox team for making a wonderfull game engine. Now it's up to Paradox and the wonderful modding community to fill that engine with beautiful gameplay and possibilities.

Johan, will the patch address the 'everyone joins the allies' issue?

Thats more of an issue of the player not using its Espionage.

Then if course the AI in some countries is having difficulties with it as well.
Both are correct. More of the latter than the first. I have no sympathy for a player playing Germany who is having these problems. But the AI seems to be not programmed to use Espionage and Diplomacy to prevent everyone from drifting away from them.

Australia, needed work

Hi Johan

The infrastructure in Australia was not quite right .. so I fixed it.

I also placed the resources in more historical places and repositioned the Factories.. (statical data from Australian Census department & Official histories, Australian War Memorial)

I have nearly finished adjusting all the scenario text files so that the names of units match and are in sync with the database.. I also adjusted units to historically accurate sizes (statical data from Australian Census department) and removed units that no longer existed (such as 8th Division lost at singapore).

The work will be complete in the next day or two, so all you would have to do is add it to your files.. (I am testing it as I go, but you will probably wish to test it yourself..)

So apart from testing it for compatability, it is a finished product.

Do you want it for 1.2???

yours
