I experience the same^^ two games on going both past 1880 Russia and Britain have smashed China in both. Quite shocked at how easy such a huge nation with the manpower it has can crumble so easily.

Same. I think China seem to have some trouble raising troops despite all its manpower. In my last game as Netherlands I got into a war with Korea, Japan and China over Fukuoka, so I landed an army in Pusan. Initially the Chinese put up quite a tough fight, constantly throwing 30-60k stacks at me. But by the time I pushed through to Beijing there was basically no defenders left.

Somehow China with most of its population and territories intact never managed to scrap together a noticeable army over the next 10 years that I spent occupying provinces.

The same problem we had in HoI3 and that never really went away largely because they've not upgraded their engine to take advantage of more computer cores. As it stands right now, their Clausewitz engine is only capable of utilizing one core. That is the core of the problem. Figuratively speaking, to eliminate a problem, do you cut the snake from the tail until you get to the head or start with the head? ;) My lame attempt to try and look wise.

At this stage I don't think it's really feasible to change the game engine.

3 requests -

1- I'd like the option to have the game pause when an event with a choice is presented to me.

2- I'd like to have a pop up for factories like the one for buildings. At the moment an irritating sound tells me that a factory has been built, but unless I've been monitoring the outliner I don't know what kind of factory or where it was built. A troublesome search through the factory screen ensues...

3- I'd like to have a pop up tell me when my capitalists have commenced a factory. Currently, I have to periodically search the factory screen to delete all the fertilizer, canned food, artillery, steam ships, luxury clothes, etc... Even better would be for that popup to give me the option to cancel the construction from the main screen. It would save some pointless clicking.

3.5- Since the player can cancel factory construction, why not give me the option to forbid construction either generally or on a state by state basis? More clicking saved.

:)

I hope rebellions in my own country will be fixed too. It's not difficult stomping 100k rebels all over your country in 3-6k stacks, but it's destroying both my economy, my industrial rating (I've slipped majorly in my Germany game - gone from 2nd to 7th) and my fun. Though I am glad to hear the diploAI is being improved, and that I can actually make alliances with GPs.

The thing is - Britain's (and those of other colonial powers) colonial troops were of a generally decent quality historically. Britain just didn't have cause to use them en masse until the First World War.

For game balance purposes some kind of V1-like nerf in quality for colonially recruited soldiers should be considered though, definitely. Could the assimilation process make this more difficult to do though?

It could be tied to the state's status. Troops recruited from colonies are weaker than those produced by full states.

:)

I second all these requests, especially the first one. Would make the gameplay and the UI much more streamlined.

3.5 I guess, you´d run into conflicts. You might be able to forbid construction of a factory type, but let´s say you could do that: The next logical thing you´d want is to tell your capis ´it´s pointless to project this factory, since its construction is forbidden!´ - at which point, laissez-faire stops being laissez-faire, really.

I'd like to Annex provinces rather than whole states, also the option to buy and sell provinces to other nations would be good also.

Also the ability to do reforms more easily like every new parlinment, because so far only on liberals can you change voting system ect. I want to be able to change pensions, wages, health ect.

Finally the ability to recruit armies in 1000s rather than 3000s, and the ability to choose your own accepted culture would be good too.

Hmm, it seems to be missing some major elements.

1. How about the overpromotion of bureaucrats and soldiers?

2. The frequency of rebellions?

3. Colonial over-migration?

Yea. The frequency of rebbellions is the biggest gamebraker imo.

Also that factorys close round about 5 seconds after did was build and so.
