Admin cap techs. I always try to have all the civics or techs, but its always not enough and I end up with modifiers like +100% leader cost. Honestly, for me admin cap is too low rn

Latest beta patch buffed admin cap repeatable tech from +10 to +15;)

I swear they are all engineering techs. Robots, starholds, titans, mega-engineering and so on.

This.

It's almost always one of the engineering techs. There's so much gating and pre-requisite tech there for all sorts of things.

Society is another one occasionally, for a lot of building upgrades and just generally getting more advanced buildings, etc.

Physics is virtually never an issue and I never care about it because nothing there feels like it really matters except the easy-to-get zero point energy generators.

Engineering tech are always important. In 2.1 I always upgrade all my research labs to engineering only.

But gateway building is the most important one. It feels much more confident when I have several gateways inside my empire. It's time for war!

Global Production Strategy for me... it gives you access to the Ministry of Production which boosts Artisan and Metallurgist output. I wanted it for a few specialized manufacturing worlds but the tech did not appear until the year 2514... like... what the hell... as far as I know this is supposed to pop up after you got the Planetary Capital building tech (first upgrade to the main building on a planet).
I am already in the repeatables at the stage of 15 or higher and then suddenly it finally appears between them, took me 2 months to research now...

Uplift hates me for some reason. My latest game it came up at the same time as psionic theory (and since I needed it for ascension Psi theory took priority). Gene Tailoring seems to take forever to come around as well, and even if I have a ruined megastructure in my boarders I can never get mega engineering

In my opinion, getting Genome Mapping -> Gene-Clinics is so critical that I restart if I do not get it.

I restart if i don't get that and the welfare+fertility preacher ruler trait and agenda.

It's ridiculous that we cannot pick our starting ruler's traits/agenda.

Agenda is random, but you can choose your starting ruler's traits. (at least for custom empires)
Add the ones you want to the ruler section of "user_empire_designs.txt" for the empire you're editing.

The megastructure prerequisites. Starhold, Star Fortress, and Zero Point Power.

However, I've learned that thing a voidcraft specialty scientist is worth it over generic boosts simply because of the tech rolling. Since I've started doing that, getting technologies I really want got a lot easier, and losing a bit of research speed is well worth it.

I was going to say the rare resource mining/refining, but that's thankfully getting fixed.

Maybe it's just me, but I've had a hard time rolling military techs this version. I think the new added civilian techs are crowding them out.

But I'd probably say the Starhold line of techs most of all.

One time I couldn’t roll wormhole travel. Into like 2450. Still didn’t have it. And it meant I couldn’t pursue any offensive wars(no one gave me territory access)

and after the game I learned why.

I had found Psi drives early in the game and this never researched Hyperdrive 2. A prerequisite tech.

User error, but understandable really. Why would I spend time with inferior tech?

Lately it’s been mega engineering or that +1 housing for Arcoloy. But that’s mostly because I really wanted them so maybe it just seems hard to find
