I'm playing as the Timurids and had just depleted my manpower in a few back to back wars. Then i got a call to arms from my ally ottos. Dirty little cheat i am i birded the call and disabled offensive war calls.
To kill time i dowed a few indian opms but forgot to check the time ottos started the war.
After winning those wars I put on offensive war calls again and bam, instacall like he was desperate or something. I wasn't gonna bird again so i accepted the call and noticed thte war was almost won. So i parked my troops in Kabul and Delhi and started drilling. After some time the war ended and i got a nice surprise

Edit: My vassal Najd did good apparently since he got a few provinces in the peace deal. It's been a funny and weird game. I had sieged Mushasha? fully and got the event where a neighbouring nations ruler invites you to dinner. So i promptly accepted and then annexed him after.

I've noticed I've been getting buckets of favours for limited effort as well. In my Ardabil --> Persia Shahanshah run simply letting my two vassals (Armenia, 12,000, and Basra, 9,000) siege down non-forted provinces gave me 40 favours. I can't seem to recall if this was the same pre-CoC, however.

It was the same in 1.22 as well. Some port blockades and minor non-fort occupations could earn you up to 40 favours with allies like France or Russia.

Perhaps the AI is directly converting the "strength of alliance" peacedeal modifier into favours, regardless of participation?

For quite a while favors seem bugged. I got 40 favors several time with like 10% war participation, only from my vassals.

Same happened to me. Ottobro called me into an offensive war against Imereti. I didn't even bother to pay for my troops, sat back behind my fort and drilled, yet I gained 15 favours. I don't have a vassal and I think I contributed literally nothing to the war (not even attrition losses). The trust/favours system is just stupid.

In my Ardabil -> Persia game, the Ottodudes have called me into a war in which i didn't want to participate, so i just stood there and drilled my troops. Yet, i had an OPM vassal, Karabakh, with 4k troops, who actually participated in the Ottoman's war, because why not. When the war ended, i got 30 favors and 6 provinces. Never thought an accidential OPM vassal can be so useful

Is there any actual connection between war participation and number of favours?

I was called into a conquest war by France against Castile and gave nearly 50% war participation. It was a total victory, France took a bunch of European provinces for himself and didn't give me anything, not even a colony. That's apparently worth 20 favours. I suppose it's fair, because 10 favours is already enough to call France into something (with lots of asterisks attached of course), let him fight all the battles and not give him anything, but if knew I could get as many or more favours without lifting a finger...

This could be an AI fix to help AI call in their allies more often?

Something does seem different. In my current Timmy->Mughals game I had the best Call to Arms so far. Bengal asked me to join an offensive war against Jaunpur and Nagaur. I joined, as did Bahmanis.

I did my part, managing to fully occupy Nagaur and most of Jaunpur. Bengal only got to occupy one province (the war target I think) from Jaunpur before I occupied the rest.

Bengal first took a separate peace with Nagaur, grabbing cash and giving me 6 provinces. Then after a couple of years he ended the war with Jaunpur taking one province himself, giving me 7.

So in the end I got 13 provinces and a pile of favors with 40%ish participation and he got one. If he had peaced out right after the separate peace, I would have gone over 100% OE.
