Slaughter and Attrition

Oh the Slaughter and Attrition, the humanity,Bad weather and trench warfare.25 divisions held by militia in trenches in mountains. No never attack in the snow.A front collapses your army and the war is lost!!!!!

The weather is even more of a factor in TGW.

Exploiting breakthroughs with cavalry, ride to the coast!!!!

Bombing the enemy with zeppelins from thousands of miles away!!!

Lets talk about some TGW tactics and strategies in this thread??

I would like to know how people find using the unit attachments in TGW how do you find them which are the best combinations?... Heavy weapons section and cavalry??? ;) Militia and communications company ? Or Artillery or Engineer regiments??How do you play yours

I havn't ever really done much air combat in TGW,how do people find it??

There are many subtle differences between playing hoi1 and TGW,there has not been enough discussion of this i think. Please contribute your thoughts and tips in this thread.......

Honestly, I ignore air and go strictly plain infantry and cavalry with no attachments. For tougher terrain I use Light Infantry, for tough nuts which require real cracking I use Guards. I tend to find the War pretty well decided before any real technological advances come into play.

I also like to use light infantry like that due to the fact that they have no supply drain.
Rolling off my hoi1 special forces question, which troops in TGW do you think are best to deply for jungle fighting.
I would tend to use light infantry, but would marines be better?
How do Light infantry fare against normal infantry in TGW?

I haven't had the experience of jungles in TGW yet, so I can't answer the first part. I've played only the European powers. As Germany, I just haven't seen the Pacific holdings as worth the tremendous effort required just to defend them. Ditto for taking them from Germany as one of the Entente powers. I just let Japan do its thing there.

In a straight up fight, normal infantry will maul light infantry. In rougher terrain, where normal infantry suffers alot of attrition and Org loss just to get there, lights can win if they can outlast the regulars. They still get chewed up though.

Militia/Levies, Reservists and Trench Division?

Cool thanks for your answer ,i will test the Jungle fighting thing out!Gonna play a massive game as japan soon!

How about with the Use of militias ,in TGW there are 3 models in the Militia section Militia/Levies, Reservists and Trench Division.
Militia/levies are the same as Hoi1 pretty weak, but how do people find the use of Trench divisions in game and Reservists, they are not really militia they are just using the militia slot?.

'which troops in TGW do you think are best to deply for jungle fighting.'

I am playing currently as Japan, and god damn does the jungle fighting mod suck. 90% bonus to defenders - while my troops dont do so bad by land casualties wise, they can barely kill 1/100 when i severely outnumber them.

IMO the jungle mod should be reduced to vanilla ish levels, 30% or such as the current level is incredibly unrealistic. I am using a mix aswell and light infantry fare even worse than regulars with leaders which have 7 skill (from kicking chinese ass :p).

Im going to give up i think, taking the phillipines is mission impossible as the 4 ish american divisions in the north can very easily hold out agasinst my 20 or so divisions even in a combined attack. The only possible way i can see would be to blocade the phillipines..... but the american navy will eventually come down hard on mine, besides my fleet cant deal with the convoy destroying.... i need submarines!

Hello deadmeat1471
Glad to see somene posting for once in the TGW forum are you playing the TGW mini-mod v.3? Japan is much more fun to play as it has many more leaders and leader pics in the mini mod.

I am still quite inexperianced in jungle fighting in TGW and Hoi1 as playing as the japs is new to me.Also i don't understand all the maths so i was hoping someone else would answer you.

I think its so hard in the jungle as in WW1 there was very little jungle specialist equipment and i think the original modders were trying to reflect this and the disease and attrition of the jungle.I havn't done much jungle fighting but i have campaigned in Afrika often in my games and its a hard slog there also in low infrastructure provinces and hard work in the Siberian snow.I think its all just part of the mod and perhaps why its such a challenge?
