Prussia 1504

pruisen1504.jpg

+ A little playing:

In 1506 I get my Third national idea: National conscripts. I chose that one because I have a chronic shortage of manpower and if my ambition is to become a landlocked European power, I'll need the men.

1514. A 3 province Brabant becomes my vassal. Protestantism and the reformation are spreading like wild fire. Landsknechten infantry (love those guys!!) have become available in Kassel and I'm spening my time and money on replacing my infantry with them while my BB drops.

1520: After several gallons of lubricant in the form of hard cash, Cleves has seen the light and agreed with the Prussians that becoming one of their vassals is in their best interest. At the end of the same year. The Frisians, who enjoyed hunting on Prussian real estate and the fine company of Prussian sponsored female company, decided that they as well would like to become a vassal. The Prussian sphere of influence is expanding.

In the meanwhile, the Austrians are doing the same while Poland appears to be overrun by pretender rebels. This might look like a nice time to give them a nudge in the wrong direction, but since they are allied with Austria and Sweden, The Prussians decide to invite the Thuringian royalty for some partying.

1522: Poland collapses under rebellion and war with Muscowy! They are forced to release Hungary, Ukraine and Moldavia. This might be a good time to jump them through a relation with a minor.

1522.jpg

They are still heavily allied though. Lithuania on the other hand, is only allied with Hesse and Cologne. Perhaps they would make a more suitable target.

July 1522. Thuringa becomes a Prussian Vassal, Bohemia gets a province from Hungary and Austria offers an alliance! In the meanwhile, Landsknechten are being trained. France is elected Emperor. Looks like noone will be dumb enough to attack such a powerblock. we are safe from Muscowian agression for now.

If my suggest go for Poland, unless thier allies are powerfull and can get to you, then just go for lithuania, going for them before Muscowy get them would be a good idea :)

Many paths you can take, correct is only one at present :D

I would go for Lithuania as well i think seeing if you get them all now you can eventualy go for Muscowy but atm they are a buffer between you and Muscow some what anyway.

You've got to deal with Muscowy before they mutate into Russia!

Well too late for that, they've become Russia by now ;). But some reasonably good stuff happened in the meanwhile.

In a series of strange multisided wars with several alliances fighting eachother in and over poland, some territory changed hands.

I got a huge chunk of it, Bohemia got a piece and Austria took the densely populated western provinces. I am allied with Bohemia and Castille, Austria is also allied with Castille and Austria is again emperor.

It seems like central Europe is a Prussian/Bohemian/Austrian thing at the moment. The three of us are competing for provinces, vassals and influence, but we have a stabile relation among eachother so we can keep growing stronger without fighting each other (for now at least).

Lithuania is still a very tempting target, but they are allied with Austria and Sweden, and are guaranteed by Russia... that means not having any picknicks over there anytime soon.

I uploaded a fullscreen screenshot and put it on imageschack. You'll just have to click the thumb and then you'll see a lot ;)

England hasn't formed Great Britain yet. Weird, since they own all of the isles, Iceland and extensive colonies in North America. + They have owned the Flemish provinces for almost a 100 years now!

France is growing stronger. They are swelling. They took control over the coastal provinces of Holland and are diplonexing at a steady pace. I haven't seen any real colonising by them yet though. My bet is that they are a sleeping giant. I wouldn't want to anger them.

And so, in 1535, the germanic majors are still struggling for central European supremacy while the Brits and the Spanish have their hands full with settling in the new world.

I, for one, am very curious how the thing with Austria will turn out. War WILL come eventually. Perhaps the combined force of Prussia and Bohemia can take them out some day when they are not emperor? But who will Castille side with? This game is still interesting to me :)

November 1537: Luxemburg becomes a Prussian vassal, Kiev and a bordering province defect from Lithuania to Russia. Gelre is eager to accept my alliance. The weight in the balance of things is evershifting.
As early as July 1538, Gelre accepts the Prussian offer of vassalisation.

1545: Bohemia, which has been on a landgrab the last decade, declares war on Poland (which they are guaranteeing  ) again! They want more land! My badboy was almost back to honorable and Poland is allied with Sweden, Denmark and Ansbach. I simply have to step in because I will need Bohemia as an ally in the future.

1550: I've diplonexed Thuringa. Nice, you might think...

IF IT WASN'T FOR THE BOHEMIAN MEGALOMANIAC KNUCKLEHEADS!!!!

The MORONS have gone and gotten themselves in a war with Austria. Austria almost f*cking doubled in size from what they gained from that war. Somehow I wasn't involved in the alliances, but we now have a white blob on our hands. SH*T!!!

I now strongly feel that the time for a fight to the death with Austria is near. They will only keep growing and will eventually outpace and outweigh me.

What do you guys think?

I have a manpower of +- 34 000 max, theirs is probably much greater and they are a little bit ahead in landtech but I have imperial administration + engineer corps + military drill. If I suffer some inflation with loans and slider settings, I might be able to recruit a large pile of armies to try and swarm them with.

The best cav I can train atm are Hussars and the best infantry I can train are Landsknechten.

how would you guys go about it? What about 2 10000/20000 hunterarmies with the best generals I can get and the rest a swarm of sieginginfantry to swarm ther lands?

i will have to wait until France no longer is emperor though...

October 1531: The Bohemian Monarch must have gone mad from drink or something... He declares war upon me over inheriting the throne of a shithole like Ansbach??!! His only friend in the world with FRANCE backing me??

Perhaps there is a method to his madness. Perhaps he'd rather see me grab chunks of his real estate than the Habsburg buggers. In I go. Europe is a weird, fucked up place. Always has been, always will be.

1553: Sad, so very sad... The once mighty Bohemia is now the frustrated intimidated weaker kid that started a fight it can't win. I get some provinces in central Germany out of it and Prussia is again a bit stronger, but it just tastes bitter. Central Europe is at peace. All who live there smile at eachother, but wide clothing is now in fashion. Not because of the aesthetics, but of the need to conseal weapons!

The Prussian aristocrats still have a firm grip over the lands they consider to be theirs by right, but the food that comes from it tastes bitter to them. Noone doubts that the coming decades will bring a war on apocalyptic scale.

The Prussians spend the late 1550's completing temples in all of their provinces. If time and money allow it, maybe workshops too.

1560. Austria declares war on Venice which is allied with the remnants of Bohemia and Aquilia. Aquila is annexed outright almost immediatly, the annexation of Venice soon follows. Bohemia is almost completely swallowed and the new Prussia Maurician infatry recruits are being pushed extra hard by drill instructors filled with the deepest worry.

August 1566: In an act of self rightious and overconfidence, the Lithuanians, allied with Münster and Austria, arrange for me to be excommunicated. An act that gives me a casus belli in the eyes of the world!

They MUST be idiots, or blind, or blind idiots, because they obviously haven't seen me building stack after stack of 5000 Eastern Hussars / 10 000 Maurician infantrists.

Or maybe they have and have drawn up a scheme with the Habsies to give me the PERFECT excuse to launch my attack against them, because the only thing holding me back was France being in charge of protecting everyone from people that want to pick a fight.

Never underestimate your enemy. These bastards are cunning and just as eager to face me as I am to face them. If they give me any more time, I'd outnumber them enormously. Because I've been doing what Prussians do best: drilling troops and drawing up schemes.

Let me draw you guys a picture:

1566.jpg

So what time is it again?

It's the time where the two German Behemoths throw their entire weight into the balance. If anything, this war and its consequenses will be felt throughout Europe, and perhaps even the world, for a long long time!

Wish me luck!

WAR!!

Bohemia joins, of course, cmon bastards, let's go have 'm! Lets settle some grudges!! My vassals join AND SPAIN JOINS TOO!!

On their side, Austria and Münster don't flinch and brace for the shock.

The combined force of the Prussian alliances has:

- 102 000 cavalry (mine are all Eastern Hussars)
- 214 263 infantry (and mine is 80% Maurician while the rest is Landsknechten)
- 2000 pieces of artillery

The type and quality of my allies' forces are unknown.

Their alliance comprises of:

- 39 000 cavalry
- 76 600 infantry
- 1000 artillerypieces

Type and quality unknown.

If we'll just compare some numbers here, not taking quality into account:

- Our cavalry outnumbers their cavalry bij 2.6 to 1
- Our Infantry outnumbers their infantry by 2.7 to 1
- Artillery isn't really a factor here, but obviously, that's 2 to 1

I have no idea about the respective manpowerreserves, but for once, mine are nearly full.

The stability drop was a mere 1. I can start with confidence.

--------------------------------------------------------------------

The first reports from the fields if battle report that the Austrians are also fielding Mauricians.

October 1566: The Habsburg stronghold in Oldenburg has fallen and there are no more Habsburg troops in the region. Munster buckles and is forced to cede Osnabrück while paying 325 (!!!) ducats in damages AND becoming a Prussian vassal. The defeated Dutchmen can only bow their hands and accept. The 15 000 men of the victorious armies in that regio are kept there on garrisonduty to secure the Prussian back from any rebellions.

The arms wrestle and both are giving all they have in them, when in November, Austria offers a white peace. Their muscles must be burning by now. A HUGE battle is going on in Eastern Austria and we're both feeding men into it.

February 1568: The Prussians control all of Lithuania and are bending over peace resolutions. The fighting in Austria is still brutal and bloody, but several Austrian provinces have already fallen into our hands. Battles between numbers of troops never seen before on the European mainland, soak the soil with blood. Various nationalist rebels are taking Prussia's war exhaustion as an opportunity to fight for their ideals. This might become problematic

They sure have lost a lot of land, but their armies are still in for the fight. My manpower is nearly drained and the rebellions are a real problem. It looks like we can't defeat them in one go. I never expected that, but I thought I'd get more out of them. I'm hoping to capture their capital and 1 or 2 more cities and then I'll sue for peace (for now).

1568.jpg

I get them to release Oldenburg, Franken and Poznan.

This time, I had to fight two big nations and now we know the Austrians can be beaten. The balance of nations has changed again. The Prussians have strengthened their position again and are licking their wounds.

1568outcome.jpg

Lessons learned from this war:

- Spain committed almost no troops at all and my vassals were of almost no importance at all.

- The Austrians united their troops into 1 superarmy which defeated my smaller, but still large, armies several times. In case of another war, I need one superarmy to fight theirs.
