I was wondering if someone could start up as Japan, liberate U74, and see what happens to the u87 liberation event. I will do this myself, but in the end of the week.

And how much time and effort do you use for defeating Republic of China? If you play as Japan.

I've had someone tell me they can beat AI China by 1938 with just the starting army as Japan.

I feel like I could do something similar on SP after beating a human China by late-'38. I built semi-significant numbers of infantry-art alongside some TAC III. Although some capital bombing was crucial to the early victory.

It's possible to beat China in early 38, perhaps even late '37 depending on how much you invest into the army.
Invade Shanxi and push the front line to the yellow river. Then send your cavalry units in a wide envelopment through the deserts and mountains down to Chonqqing. (You can attack the commies and they will usually offer a white peace fairly quickly that you can accept if you dont want to get them right away. The Chinese ai will go nuts trying to get the front line stabilized. It doesn't matter if your cavalry lives or dies as long as they occupy Chonqqing and hold it for a while. Because in the meantime you can land about 10-20 units in Hainan and push up north from there to meet your cavalry. Once Chonqqing has fallen the forces in Shanxi will be at full org and supply. You can either grab some divisions from here and do more flanking naval operations or just use them all to cut the remainder of Chinese territory into two. The rest is just mop up.

So true... a northern and southern pincer using cavalry results in serious problems for the AI while amphibing the coast results in a significant portion of Chinese army out-of-supply if more cavalry can rush inland to block their retreat. And to increase division numbers, the GAR can be pre-placed so there is no worry about enemy counter-attacking eastwards.

I would love to test U74 and U87, but sorry, I can't.

It does not happen. Japan needs to control every VP in the eastern half of China including Beiping. Also one VP in the western half needs to be controlled by Japan. CHI must have lost 65% of its national territory.

In the old hoi2-doomsday/Armageddon, I overrun Shanxi in early or mid-1936 and sometimes defeated china in early, or mid-1938. But In AOD this is different if you dow the Sanxi in before the war event vs N.china sanxi gets annexed by N.china. This does make sense in terms of making a better changeling for the Japan-player.

I really don't recommend playing 1.11. It crashes all the time. Real junk.

I've had no issues with 1.11, it's a fantastic update fixing & improving many of AoD's features. If you have had problems, best to report them in the bug reports thread.
