I didn't see anyone making the new player argument.

The stats also show theoretical morale as well as current avg morale and the theoretical morale is where I took the value from.

I tried to use mixed armies in the mountains since I didn't have any other armies available and that still doesn't explain the crushing victories on the plains and in every other battle.

But whatever, I was beaten severely no matter what I tried. I pretty much am not good at any portion of the game.

I used to underestimate leaders as well. Since I'm thinking that you are referring to the western front, it was because my shock leader was there. 5 shock (9 and 10 offensive gives an extra point which can be critical in plains earlier in the game) vs. 2 shock was what did it.

It's just the different ways we utilised our resources. I had 1 leader that was good in shock, 1 that had an upgraded fire, and another one who had a slighty upgraded shock. It's merely watching your infantry/cavalry ratios in different terrains, and most importantly you need to know where you are fighting. Once you figure that out, you can make armies that are most optimal for different conditions. For example my armies for plains had more cavalry in them, and used my shock leader. In the ones that were going to be fighting in mountains, I had higher levels of infantry, and my fire leader.

You've done really well, warring isn't something that you learn straight away. You have to observe how others do it and observe the outcomes, and experiment a little, because it's not an exact science. I remember sometimes when I was new to MP I would get my ass handed to me on a plate (and still do... hmmm). It's just something that happens when in play against others but it's best to enjoy it if possible and learn different techniques.

before I conduct a war I check these things all out: Morale sliders, Leader Placement, set Slider to Mint if it's a serious war

Support limit for each province my troops with be stationed during their defensive, manuevering and attacks. The attrition levels of Enemy provinces
# Leaders cancel out attrition better. So do LandTechs... #
I check for Swamps, Mountains and Forests, they're Infantry Combat Terrain. Plains and Desert are <White and Yellow> Great for Cav. assaults. Forts give bonuses all around and must be taken into consideration. On defense, you need to rally troops in groups as you cannot Muster full Force in 1 Province to outmatch your enemy. Kind of like striking a man with a Jab, right hand, then an uppercut. Combinations!!! Are Key to Victory, but are costly if you don't get the hell out quickly as you'll amass attrition. You need anything over 40Warscore to Stab an enemy into defeat..

With EU2, Defense you may want to go offense if you have leaders and numbers depends on your style and force a end to the War. You can hold behind your lines but if you have a big front he may out maneuver you, you must be aware of what is a stabbing position for him. If he can take 2 of your CoTs and your Capitol you're toast and soon to be his Vassal. You lose Warscore rapidly if you lose Provinces and battles.

The key is this then, once you can win battles and take provinces, plus hold provinces and repell mass invasions both amphibious and over land. Is to know what will give him a Winning Score against you, what punches he'll pull and anticipate where he'll hit. It's usually quite obvious for each aggressor, especially a land one. Look for what benefits them most and fortify and prepare your troops/leaders/fleet/allies/whatever for fast manuevers to cover these areas OR better yet, go on the offensive and take from one of his Allies or from him an equal property or more forcing him into a defensive posture while on the offensive. This all has to be figured out by the MP, Leaders, Allies of your enemy nation... This is the basics... But you have to use them properly in EU2 War to win and most do not understand these concepts and lose. You can LOSE vast numbers of troops and win, you can be stabbed down to -3 and maxed out WE, 5 Loans out and still come out ahead. Though that's usually taking it too far, war is expensive, and if nothing else someone is bullying you, draw it out and make them pay for those petty provinces their stealing from you. Thatta way you get some payback! :p The Cruel Way to give away property

On Defense you don't need nearly as many troops as unlike your enemy you can pull back and you can also attrit him<sometimes it's good to stack your men in your own Provinces where he incurs desertion and you do not, that's a whole different aspect to the game> If you see Winter comming, get out and let him dwindle, if you see him assualting and failing WAIT! Then counter on top of him. If you see a great leader, don't hit him, trail him... Follow his endtails cut him off and then when he's low on supply Burn his arse... Supply is traced through captured provinces in enemy territory and gets low when you don't have a adjacent territory conquored...

War is Blood! War is the Nature of the Beast! Your enemies are all around you!
Constantly be aware who is an enemy and who is a friend..they'll change constantly, you'll be a great warmonger and great player by mastering simple simple concepts.. it's a lot like boxing, block, block, jab, jab, jab, RIGHT HAND! NO! Fake out! You marched your troops right, but you stopped the last moment and marched the other direction ;) he stacked and wasted away!

HG,

That is truly an oversimplification of what happened.

I will continue to play this game but as I said when I joined this game does not run at a time that is overly good for me and at some point I will have to leave it because of job and outside real life commitments.

It was impossible to ignore the Austrians; they were 2 CRTs up on OE when I took over and making requests with regards to Hungary. It was ignoring the Austrians that put me in a situation that I could no longer ignore them.

I was on friendly terms with everyone including Russia until their greed got the better of them.

You fail to see how your statement that I do not want to play with you because you attacked me is an oversimplification?

1) Province swap, fairly straight forward. France is much stronger than Austria probably about twice as strong roughly.

2) BB dow's Austria. Austria is only slightly weaker than BB. Austria begins to win the war.

3) France demands return of provinces swapped previously plus an additional one.

4) France attacks while Austria is still fighting BB.

5) France effectively gangbangs Austria and overruns 90% of the provinces.

Oh, so now I see how you came up with Veil dislikes HG because he attacked him. /sarcasm

I disliked what you did in that game because it was such a BS powergame move. If you were interested in having a real conflict rather than a raping of Austria for provinces that you had just swapped with Austria only a couple of "game" years previously then you would have had the decency to wait until the BB/Austria war was over. You didn't wait and instead chose to rape Austria; that is why I think your style of play is so disgusting.

I am pretty much finished discussing this with you because you seem incapable of realizing that what you did was pretty low.

Veil,

No, what I did was perfectly reasonable. I told you there was no treaty, no political agreemnt. Nothing until you were on your side of the river.

It's not my fault you completely failed in diplomacy. It's not my fault you crossed the Rhine (Rubicon) without any ability whatsoever to defend yourself. It's not my fault you refused to make peace with Brandenburg. It's not my fault you refused a diplomatic accord with France. It's not my fault you pissed off Brandenburg by, yet again, blindly stumbling through Germany. Your justification for controlling provinces over the Rhine was "they're Germans," for Christ's sake.

It's not what you have a right to. It's what you can claim, take, defend. Period. I've been willing to call this a simple war, bad luck, whatever, up until now, but a spade's a spade. Everyone in that game was telling you your actions were ridiculous. Totally without merit.

Austria cannot hold positions within the natural borders of France. Hell's bells, I wouldn't even permit an Austria to control the Netherlands, much less fucking Alsace and Pfalz. Unless the French player, for whatever reason (and there are good ones), consents or is unable to stop you, don't do it.

What you want is equality of conditions in all situations. Tough shit. My optimum moment of attack (hitting land nine) happened to coincide with the BB-Austrian war. It's your own damn fault you were isolated to that degree.

This is the same nonsense you directed at Bocaj. Stop blaming other players for your lot. It's tiresome, juvenile, uncompetitive and does nothing to improve your game.

Dago,

I never disputed that it's unpleasent. ;)

The problem is that Veil crossed the Rhine and irritated Brandenburg by going after its (ex-) vassal. You piss off all your neighbors, particularly as Austria, without the means to fight them off, without allies... You get what's coming.

Dago,

More importantly, though, I didn't attack because Austria was in war with BB.

I attacked because I hit land nine, got my finances in order, concluded diplomatic deals and put the army in decent shape. It happened to coincide-but obviously, with a CRT advantage, I was going to hit.

Continue to justify what in effect was a gangbang however you want. You attacked a smaller nation while it was in a fair war. So continue to pat yourself on the back but stop deluding yourself to think that what you did was anything more than a landgrab.
