I agree as well, its rather funny that everyone is so up-in-arms about something that was bound to happen anyhow within the next 3 weeks.

Now, id rather wait for my storebrought copy, but out of curiosity seeing this whole uproar i looked around at the usual spots for pirated games. And well, im no expert but ive been unable to find anyone with a copy of the game for sharing. So id tend to think few have it, and that itll be so hard to get it that way for awhile, that in the end, most wanna-be pirates will have to buy it unless they want to look for weeks.

The "niche game" fact helps alot.

So I don't see how it matters to Paradox that a paying customer get the game two weeks before, if there are bastards out there who do not plan on paying who are sitting right now and enjoying the fruits of paradox's labor. It is similar to me going to a friends house three years ago, and seing a game of super advanced "Risk" on his computer, and then asking what that. Since then I've bought everything Paradox has put out, even Legion. So just saying don't download the game, even if you will pay for it on the 18th, I think is misguided. Why punish loyal fans?

Because if you download the game you are supporting the pirates who steal from Paradox. When you visit their warez sites, they benefit from that. They want people to steal the game, that is why you make it available. I would hope people on this forum would not support those who steal from Paradox.

Besides, even if you did preorder, you do not own the game yet, and would be stealing it if you downloaded it. I don't think of not downloading pirated software to be "punishing loyal fans" as muc has showing some respect for the amount of time and effort Paradox has put into the game.

Unfortunetely, Alerias, that is not the case. On E-Mule alone there is now over 440 copies of Victoria.
On a good note though, Empires: Dawn of the modern world has...33,256 thousand. Like it has been said, your avarage pirate (13 to 17) is not likely to steal vicky.
A suggestion to Paradox, there is probably a reason why this will not work, for I am not the smartest person in the world, and very few game companies do this, so probably there is a reason for it, but none the less here it goes...
Paradox games should be made more than 800mb and on one disk, because most pirates make cd images of game, it will take out 80% of the pirate market since unless you have a DVD-RW and are willing to use a DVD-R disk, a five dollar value, a pirate has no way to play a given game.

While I totally agree with you on not suporting pirates, unfortunetely, Vicky is past the original Warez sites where you have to pay for the game, it is now doing its rounds through the various sharing services, and so now pirates are no longer benefiting from it.
Saying that, I will not be donwloading Vicky, even though I have a pre-order, out of respect for Johan and Co. and their work.

Victoria and most of Paradox games are the kind of games you just...overlook when going through a store, So it was for me untill I got hooked.

If anyone sees "victoria" on emule, kazaa or whatever they will think it's Pr0n:rofl:

Well, generally getting it off a sharing service would be even worse, since most (except Kazaa) require you to share the image as you download it. Then, not only are you stealing it, but you are distributing it to others at the same time!

Not reading, but writing on to a disk, you need a highly expensive DVD-RW do write more than 800mb disks.

Well, it's not like it's a very cunning ruse. I mean I've already posted half the answers to my questions in that very forum.

Not to burst your bubble, but the one people who might realistically get sued are those who leaked the thing originally. I do hope those get caught.

Individual "pirates" (hardly worthy of that title, everyone knows how to use file sharing software) have always been safe, and the only attempt to break that tradition, by the RIAA, has turned national opinion against it overnight. Even I, who always disaproved piracy and encouraged the artists, have stopped buying music when I saw they sued a 12 years old girl and forced her mother to pay thousands in damage.

I suppose thats getting a bit off topic, though, my original point is that this DKK guy is probably not the source of the leak but simply someone with too much time to spend in xdcc rooms or whatever.

The only way to prevent early leaks is to tighten the ropes regarding which parts of the press gets the game. But keep in mind, EVERYTHING gets leaked early these days. Hell, Return of the King is already out there.

Yeah good point. I bet that if I got pulled over for something and happened to have a CD right on my dash that had written on it in big bold letters "ILLEGAL SOFTWARE" nothing would come of it.

As for the RIAA thing, I'm right with you. No more buying music CDs for me. I used to...but I'm sickened by the measures they are taking. If that's the solution (multi-billion dollar corporations suing kids and single mothers) then I'd rather be part of the problem!

Every game is pirated, just because Victoria has also been stolen doesn't automatically mean that Paradox will go broke. There is still enormous loyalty to Paradox, so the number of those who pirate INSTEAD of buying is minimized compared to other game companies. You might as well look at the bright side of this, your game is wanted enough for it to be stolen two weeks before the release.
