Positive Spin on this Piracy thing.
Now, obviously piracy is not a good thing, however, when compared to more mainstream titles, or god forbid an extremely hyped title like say HalfLife2. The market share that is lost in a game like Victoria is tiny.
Victoria is a niche game, as such it is not going to appeal to the mainstream warez pup that talks like "doot, ur sux, i r0x u in quake f00!". Of course, being a somewhat smaller market, those lost units do hurt more, when to valve a few hundred lost units is not even noticable. However, i'd hope to think that units warezed would not even top 1% of total sales. Even games like halflife2, which will indoubtedly have hundreds of thousands of units stolen are still selling several several million copies. So, while the warez scene is pretty lame, one generally must remember that % wise its usually pretty small, and even more so for grognard type games.
All im saying is, this could have ragdoll physics, a gravity gun and the spiffist new 3d graphics, and the pirating could be much much worse as those 15 year olds get their ya-ya's off ;p
In the end, I think that pirating of software will always exist, one just must be thankful that our taste in games doesn't appeal to the masses. As such our chosen games will be much less impacted.
