Ofcourse I understand that Paradox is pissed off, but I sincerly hope this will not spill over on those of us that is eagerly awaiting the release so we can buy the game and enjoy it.

Sue the bastards and use the money to produce patches and new wonderfull games.. ;)

There is not a game in existence that is not/hasn't been warez'd. A quick look on newzbin.com will tell you that. Victoria is out, and widely available. However, as many have already said in this thread, this does not mean that Victoria is now going to fall on its face.

Most warez user's tend to treat games they download as extended demos. There is so much crap out there in the shops, that you can easily waste your money on a duff game, and I should know after buying BF42. :(

If they come across a game that intrests them, and is re-playable again and again, they go out and buy it. At the end of the day, when a game is good, there is nothing like owning the box, the manual and a CD that doesn't say "TDK 40x" on it.

The games has been released both by Deviance and MYTH, so I would suspect that the game has been leaked from mulitple sources.

Why would the loyal customers be punished because some wacko leaked the product early? Woulda been done sooner or later...

Now I'd just find this beyond sad if this has an impact on the end quality of the product. Dont let it get to you guys. "The Press" is just way too big for every single person to be trustworthy. What matters is that the game still comes on the shelves so that the rest of us can buy it and enjoy it right?

I'm just having difficulties understanding how and why this has an impact on the flow of things. (ie, no new information until release, and also, possibility of less patching?!)

Please see my later post!

My guess is that they are the same... One releases the full CD image and one the rip without music and videos etc...

They are both from the same source. Press review copy from one of the people that received the game from the Scandinavian publisher for review!

Easiest way to explain why there wouldn't be any patches or anything isn't about Paradox beeing mad.
If the piracy goes far enough Paradox won't make any money.
If they don't make any money they can't make any games or patches.

Stealing makes things worse.

Didn't you insert a time-limit on these copies? I remember Johan talking about it earlier. Naturally some of the Jolly Roger groups out there are capapable of bypassing that.. but still, you should be able to track the leak that way.

Or, was that removed for the press versions?

I know this is going to upset alot of people on the boreds Patric, but maybe you should close the sauce code and then just use demos, will make this much harder.

I know its not the paradox way but it would have stopped this being out on the internet already.

I probably just upset the entire mod comunity!!!

We won't move for a closed architecture as we really enjoy the modder's work and we think it brings extra lengevity to the games as well.

The press preview versions we make are finger printed so that is no problem. The problem is that the press got the Gold version for some reason. It doesn't matter who's fault that was as it has been done now but I promise you that it won't happen again!

The game will be far to detailed for the common gamer. Thats what the sales will reflect, not that the game has been warez'd.

Sad to hear all this. Hope the responsible party is found and given a stiff punishment (besides being fired if he's an employee in the press).

Still, hopefully it won't damage sales as the typical Vic player is perhaps not the typical piracy fellow.

I agree, but I remember reading a rewiew for EU2 in Pc Zone and it was a very small review with not so favorable ranking, but it caught my eye and I purcahsed the game from game so if i didnt like it I could return it under the 10 day money back guarnette they do. I loved it and i got my friends to look at it and about 12 of them bought it! Word of mouth is the best way and I just dont want the word of mouth to be get it off the internet its all there!!!

I first heard about EU by word of mouth, well "word by phone" actually. But I'm not convinced the EU/Vicky crowd is free from those who would pirate the game. I wish that was the case, though.

Some people would rather say a few bucks rather than paying and thereby being part in giving Paradox the opportunity to make more of these great games.

I have no problem understanding this, but:

1. By threatening your loyal subjects you will alienate us

2. By threatening your loyal subjects you will probably make more of them defecting to warez version.

These two points will probably lead to even less income in the long run... :(

Btw, yes I consider myself a loyal subject of Paradox games... :D

Heh - I found it on Home of the Underdogs, before Europa Universalis was available in English. I wandered over to the forums (well, these forums) and found to my delight that everyone was discussing the imminent English language release :)

They didn't threaten loyal subjects, they made a point why you should pay for your copy. Why would somebody favour getting warez instead of the Real Thing more if it's been made clear that if piratism increases the chance of sequels and patches lessen? Doesn't sound logical to me.
