I just checked and you are quite right! I feel a bit silly, but I didn't know those empires showed up on their own, Either way, yes, give them some good old liberation, or as it's called in my galaxy, "liberation."

Well done on keeping your head above the water and winning!

Why do you prefer giving the planets to your vassals instead of taking them for yourself (ceding)?

Ceding will build up a large amount of threat which will make finding friends more difficult later. Plus, the vassals are swallowing the ethics issues, which means a nice chunk of the population will be converted when he finally integrates. Not to mention, no recently conquered malus this way.

In any case, this is the British 'Western Front' approach to interstellar war. If you're going to have a ceaseless, grinding war with your close neighbours... it's generally preferable to have someone else's territory as a buffer to fight on and get mangled up.

The Galaxy on the eve of the Second Human-Parasite war.

UmZ1vep.jpg

Almost immediately after the Human-Houseplant war ended I was forced to declare war upon the Parasites. I was hoping to remain at peace for a while, to improve my infrastructure and lay down a few more Rome Class Cruisers, but the Belmacosa forced my hand by declaring war on the Parasites first. Now It's a race to claim planets.

U4PgotW.jpg

Having broken the back of the Parasites in the last war, and with them being distracted by a two front campaign, there is little resistance as planet after planet falls to occupation. Eventually I reach their home world and mange to invade it in but it seems that the Belmacosa have the same idea and were trying beat me to it. Luckily I had made it here first and had the situation well in hand before they managed to land any troops. A few days later the Parasites sent their unconditional surrender.

gH0jxK6.jpg

In the peace treaty I forced them to cede several planets to my vassal and humiliated them for good measure. Now that peace has been restored, and the Parasites removed as any sort credible of threat, I can focus on my next challenge; the next war with the Houseplants and their Belmacosa allies.

Yeah RNGesus smiled upon them and they Spawned in a relatively empty sector also they're Xenophobic Isolationists. Next wars gonna be a a big on though I formed federation with the Kel-Azaan Republic hoping to Isolate the Houseplants and they just made two more allies. Furthermore the Belmacosa vassalized what left of the Parasites so I'm looking at a war on two fronts here.

So looking for advice on my next move here is the current state of the galaxy. Everything in Blue is me, my ally, or my vassals, Red is the Houseplants and their allies and their allies vassals and Yellow is the mysterious Buchondon.

uQzd3Re.jpg

I'm wondering what to do next my original intention was to declare war on the Houseplants but now I'm not so sure that's a good idea and am considering declaring war on the Buvhondon instead. If I declare war on the Houseplants everything circled in red comes with them while that looks like a lot of red the Houseplants, the Parasites, and that tiny circle of red by my ally have next to no navy and I know the approximate size of the Belmacosa navy. The wild card here is that blob in the south who have never seen fight, have no clue as to the actual fleet power of their navy, and to which the diplomacy menu says that their tech is superior.
Reasons for war with Houseplants: They are one of my mortal enemies, they are weak (though their alliance inst) and there are a whole bunch of uncolonized wet climate worlds in their territory. Reasons against war with Houseplants: Ill be fighting against half the known galaxy and my ally is in no shape to actually help.

Alternatively I can go "north" and take on the Buvhondons they are arguably a fairer fight for me as they have no allies. However attacking them is a shot in the dark, I have no idea what kind of weapons they have, how powerful their fleet is (dip menu says only equivalent), and their naval capacity and tech is superior to my own.
Reasons for war: Likely a much easier fight. Reasons against I'm going almost completely blind, though I do know there a a few continental worlds just past the remainder of the Parasite's territory.

I'd go with the houseplants. They might have a large fleet capacity as an empire, but the chances of that being brought to bear in a single place is fairly low. I'd try and goad the houseplant fleet into your space and pick it off, then go on a rampage through their space to drop all the spaceports.

Hopefully your vassals will act as a speedbump when the enemy allies turn up, and you'll be able to double back to your space and deal with them in detail once they arrive. After that, okay defensive and try to occupy as many houseplant planets as possible.

A bonus if you have torpedos and fleet capacity to spare would be to set a small corvette raid force to take out enemy spaceports while your main fleet does the heavy lifting.

That's what I'm banking on they may have a large fleet but I'm betting they can consolidate quick enough to be threat. I also have the federal navy at my disposal. But is i miscalculate I'm pretty much screwed.

Sadly my weapons tech rolls have been crap all i have are Coilguns, UV lasers (salvaged) and Deflectors 2. What has been carrying this far me was I was one of the first to cruisers

Does the Hask'Pagram have any enemies? AI often attacks enemies I'm attacking if they are weakened. Plus they have to be able to get through the territories between the two of you, which could keep them out of the fight if they can't reach the next arm or fly through enemy territory.

My vote also goes to attacking the houseplants.

Here’s an update to my game, likely my last one as I doubt I will continue to play this save. Though your continued comments have inspired me to take a shot at writing an actual AAR for my next game.

Here is the State of the Galaxy on the eve of my second war with the Houseplants.
SXGGW1w.jpg

I decided to hold off declaring war until I finished researching shields and railguns and thus lost out on an opportunity to declare war on them while they were distracted with fighting the remnants of the Centralized Sates.

hJvBZJw.jpg

The first few battles of the war go swimmingly as I brush aside the remains of the Houseplants fleets with little effort. However all is not sunshine and roses and my ally gets jumped by a superior Belmacosa fleet.

oP52DZx.jpg

SFWwpGj.jpg

I divert my fleets and end up forcing the Belmacosa fleet to retreat, though not in time to save my allies. Assuming that the Belmasosa fleet has been taken out of commission I return to the Houseplant front on the other side of my empire. Then another complication arises.

2dZtMc1.jpg

One of my vassal’s planets goes into full revolt and I will be forced to divert resources to dealing with rebels in the middle of a two front war. Luckily for me the rebellion is small and disorganized so there is no real urgency to defeating them.

Then another surprise occurs.
AnNVHXL.jpg

dE8SlBb.jpg

The Belmacosa fleet that I assumed was out of commission returns and tries to take out my colony of Armstrong. I manage to return just barely in time to save the spaceport, but having learned nothing I return back the Houseplant Front, leaving the core worlds undefended once again.

DXBSv9O.jpg

In the meantime I manage to annex my Houseplant vassal and come immediately regret it. Turns out a highly xenophobic race of floating plants really does not want to be governed by humans. Who knew?

o2rywyU.jpg

The my decision not to hunt down the Belmacosa fleet bites me in the ass a second time as they attempt to take Terra Nova, luckily I managed to beat them there and turn their raid into a trap. Tired of the Belmacosa continually attacking my core worlds I come up with the brilliant idea of actually hunting down that damn fleet and occupying their worlds.

0cA2icw.jpg

From here on out it simply turns into a long slog of occupying worlds until I have enough warscore to enforce my demands.

This is what the galaxy looks like after my second war with the Houseplants.

XAETqYN.jpg

I managed to liberate a single system, it had three planets, but not really sure it was worth the effort. I had hoped to reduce the Houseplants borders enough to open up a few worlds to colonize but no such luck.

The Tzynn managed to take advantage of my destruction of a Belmacosa frontier outpost and expand, which is annoying because they are an associate member to my federation, so I can’t attack them anytime soon. The Confederacy of Alar is also an associate member (damn Kel-Azaan keep inviting people) meaning their worlds are also off limits. The only available path to expansion is north towards the Buvhondon which are classified as Overwhelming compared to me.

While I’m still not the galactic superpower I would like to be I’m happy with what I’ve accomplished. I took a rather difficult start and managed to turn humanity into a power not to be messed with.

If you have FEs turned off, I am confident that you would eventually be able to achieve a Dominance Victory. With FEs, this slow start might make an awakening foo powerful for you to overcome, but even then I have seen patient building win out. It would just take a looonnngg time.

Have you tried reading the AAR forum? It seems pretty similar to what you are looking for. Anyway I like the Idea regardless, can never have too much community interaction.

Thank you for the pointer! In fact i wasnt aware this section of the forums existed, because a) this shows as a document and not as a subforum / folder on my screen of the forums b) the wording does not clearly represent what is in there from the POV of a person who is not an English native speaker (otoh my english may just be too bad...). Always nice to find out your wish already exists and you just didnt know :)
