• Crusader Kings III Available Now!

The realm rejoices as Paradox Interactive announces the launch of Crusader Kings III, the latest entry in the publisher’s grand strategy role-playing game franchise. Advisors may now jockey for positions of influence and adversaries should save their schemes for another day, because on this day Crusader Kings III can be purchased on Steam, the Paradox Store, and other major online retailers.

It is very likely that it does not need any further discussion and thus bumping it serves no purpose. If you feel it is necessary to make a new reply, you can still do so though.

Thank you, unfortunetally, I over-wrote the Dread-lord's shield when making my Byzantine one, can someone else with the game email the Dread lord's shield to me? Or can I just take it off the disc?

Located where? The shield that is, (meaning the race logo?)?

GCII/gfx/race/ and then there are files, look for a .png that tooks like a red octagon with fire in it... that is the dread lord's shield (appears next to their units and planets). I accidentally over-wrote it when making the Byzantine shield. If I can take it directly off the GCII disk, that would work too.

The next update is a little different, even though it is filled with those short captain's logs and events, I'm trying to add an actual story to the whole thing, centred around Klaus's quest for a wife.

For anyone who didn't know, I'm an amature author (and by 'amature' I mean 'my stuff really, really sucks'), and frankly, writing 6,000 captain's logs bores me shit-less. So, if you don't like them after the update, I'll drop them, but I like writing them.

I should be done soon, maybe even tonight! No map though... :eek:o

No, mine are more suggestive than actual actions, I'm not the next Judge...

This week end is very busy, and the update didn't get to the point I wanted it to be at. I have a research paper to BS as well as a huge WH40k match, I am testing out my new sisters of battle... The life of a geek is never easy.

Actually, I mean tonight.

February 13, 2231
Northern Plain, Thalan Territory
KBRS Byzantien (SS-S-001), Sieg Class Battleship
Commander: Großadmiral-Graf Heinrich von Wessex

The massive Byzantien floated effortlessly through Thalan territory. War had been declared January 15, after both the Yor Collective and the Torian Confederation surrendered to the Hive and gave their remaining planets to the Arcean Empire. The Byzantien was dispatched and now orbited Drengi, the former capital of the Dregnin Empire. Her prupose was to locate and destroy enemy space craft with special emphasis on transports and colonial ships. Her crew had been at red alert for a week, now. The Byantium was alone, so very, very alone. The closest allied planet was about two week's flight away at full speed. The nearest allied fleet was Byzantine Fleet 606, a massive horde of Gustavs, behind them was a group of Terra Classed Heavy Cruisers. Coming from the western plain was a fleet of Sieg and Krieg class Battleships. So, with allied re-enforcements so far away, it was no surprise that von Wessex was nervous. His crew was itching for a fight, but Thalan fleets stayed beyond their sight, went around them, and continued to attack Acrean colonies. The Arceans were not happy with the Byzantines inability to prevent these attacks. So far, the KBRS Byzantien, designed to fight whole fleets at once, was reduced to attcking the occational scout or freighter as it sat there guarding the way for fleets of troop transports, headed toward Dregni to capture the vital industrial base from the Thalans.

Gustav.jpg

Gustav I fighters, cheap so I can afford to lose 6,000 a battle...

When the Byzantien had arrived at the planet, they found it was only guarded by a few defender-fighters, and quickly elliminated this threat. Then they sent a signal to Terra Byzantium, says the coast was clear to send in transports, carring billions of German soldiers. But after another week of floating, even the commander was restless, and he wanted to use the ships to its full advantage, he headed 'northward' toward a system of three planets orbiting a signle sun. One was very heavily defended, but the other three were prime targets for attack by the Byzantien. The crew got enjoyment out of taking the ship down low and attacking fleets of weaker ships. And after attacking the two weaker planets, the ship left for another system, and began attacking shiping, and immigrantion ships there. Soon, the enbargo enacted by Klaus IX Dukas was in total affect. The Thalans didn't dare send a freighter, transport or colonial ship into the skies. The Byzantien continued to roam the Thalan system looking for unsuspecting targets and scaring the Thalan Hive Queen shitless.

February 17, 2231
Kostantinopolis, Earth
Imperial Palace

Klaus was at another of his own balls. He hated these get-togethers. All the elite from the planet Earth were there. They mingled like friends, but really plotted behind each other's backs. Klaus watched from his seat of honor was Julia enjoyed herself in all types of Princes from around the Empire. Deep down, Klaus knew that her time was rapidly approaching, and if he wasn't careful, one of those Princes would soon have the throne. He needed a son. At the age of 41, he was still a desirable man, even if he wasn't the Emperor of the Byzantine Empire. He scratched his head wearily. Here people acted as if there wasn't a war going on. They danced peacefully and calmly, but acorss the galaxy, a war was raging, and the lives of billions were forever being altered or ended. Klaus shifted his weight casually, hoping not to draw attention to his apathy. He noticed to his left that his advisors were trying to arrange his bride-hopefuls in a organized line.

"Damn, not this again." He said aloud. He stood up and acted as if he was cleaning himself up, or grabbing another drink. Well, he did grab a drink, during his mad rush for the door. Slipping out a back door, Klaus made his way down a small hill to a gazeebo down by a pond. He sat down heavily, and stretched. He smiled as he looked up at the ceiling, and he noticed no change in the party behind him. He closed his eyes, but he felt uneasy, as if someone was watching him. He opened his eyes, and noticed that he hadn't been alone this whole time.

"Do you not like the parties either?" she asked.

Klaus smiled, "Yes... I hate those things... but I have to go to each one..."

"I know that feeling. My father says I must go, it is the only way to get me known. He very much wants me to marry an important Count, or a powerful Duke. Say! You wouldn't know where I'd find one of those, would you?"

"Yes," Klaus said, "There is about three hundred in that building behind me. All here to serve the Empire... except for the few with brains... they just like the money."

"Money... ha... I remember when my family still had some money, then that depression fell on top of us. They only man not hurt was the one who lives here. Probably didn't lose a penny." Klaus was sombered, he had lost trillions, and trillions more in charity. But no one was told. "Could you imagine living in a house this big?" the woman asked.

"I've only seen a few rooms... the ball room, the office, the library," Klaus answered. It was mostly honest, he didn't use many of the rooms, which were said to be haunted by murdered Emperors as well as commoners who had died in the old prision below the palace.

"Have you met him before?" she asked.

"Who?"

"You know... the Emperor?"

"A few times, I know him quite well...he'..."

"You can tell him he is a jerk. He treats his people like they are his own toys."

"Well, his advisors and Dukes have a lot to do with that, where do you live?"

"Valencia, in the Catalan district. My father is a servant to the Duke of Valencia-Toledo, he is here with my master. Where are you from?"

"Around here, I grew up in the palace, and mingled with the right people."

"Your parents were servants?"

"Well... similar." Klaus shifted uneasily. How much longer will she talk until she figured out who he really was. Not much later, panic spread in the palace, Dukes and Counts ran from place to place looking for the Emperor.

"What is going on up there?" the woman asked.

"The Emperor is miss...ing," Klaus realized his cover was blown, but he smiled wickedly.

"Wait... how'd you... know... that?" Klaus laughed. He laughed and he had no idea why. Maybe it was her ignorance, maybe it was because he had played along. Maybe it was because he wanted their conversation to continue.

"What can I say? I got cold feet." She stared blankly at him, he glanced over his shoulder to make sure no one had realized where he was and was coming down after him.

"You're the Emperor... oh God no... I have disgraced my father..." the woman feel to her knees in tears. Klaus bent down and put a hand on her cheek...

Konstantinopolis, Earth

In the ancient walls of the largest church in the universe, Klaus IX Dukas was praying for the first time in many years. He was the leader of the Orthodox faith, yet he was an agnostic. He was so unsure of the workings of the universe, yet he was meant to be infalible. The mighty ruler of all man-kind. He looked up from his spot through the stained glass windows. He was alone. The church was reserved only for him on Sundays. He got up and left through two massive doors, opened by two men standing outside, waiting for a simple signal.

He walked swiftly to his waiting car, hopping in, he was sped off to the Palace. There he found the last of the Dukes from the party leaving. Amongst them was the Duke of Valencia-Toledo. Anglesa, the woman from the gazeebo was standing off to the side with her father. Their arms were filled with things for their master. Klaus's sudden entrance caught everyone off guard, and they bowed down before him. He stopped and motioned for them to stand up. They did as they were told. Anglesa looked at the ground. She didn't even try to look up at Klaus. Klaus began conversation with the Duke as the others left, it was the dry kind of conversation that the Emperor was quite used to. He thanked the Duke for comming, and said that he'd be hosting another party soon, if the weather permits. The Duke thanked Klaus a thousand times for begin a graceous host.

"I know that Julia is never meant to be a house maker, but this palace doesn't feel like a home without one. Here, Juan and his daughter here a great at what they do, and don't worry. My home is much smaller, and I an will learn to tolerate their absence." Klaus smiled, and agreed. He had gained the upperhand.

KBRS Byzantien (SS-S-001), Sieg Class Battleship
Commander: Großadmiral-Graf Heinrich von Wessex

The mighty KBRS Byzantium

KBRS Byzantien drifted above a heavily guarded planet, the one they passed up before. It was the key to this sector, its influence was making Byzantine control over the whole region difficult. But clearing it for invasion is no easy task. Großadmiral von Wessex needed a great victory before the rest of the fleet could arrive from battles on the western fringe. The new Zerstören Class battleships offered more firepower, and more protection than the Byzantien and the other Sieg Class ships. But von Wessex wanted to prove that these old ships still had the fight in them. So with the fleet fast approaching, he made a choice, and ordered that the planet be attacked. His crew cheered as they prepared the guns for battle. What happened next is something that has faded off into Byzantine lore as the only defeat of the first war with the Hive.

Zerstörer Class Battleship, bow down to Klaus or I'll pwn you

The Thalan fleet chalenged the KBRS Byzantien with everything they had, they knew the other planets in the system were beinging to fall one by one to the Byzantines. But they were going to defend their fortress to the last bug-eyed child. The Byzantien opened up with all her guns, by the Thalans were far more numerous than they had originally thought. The Thalans sent up three frigates and two cruisers along with fleets of smaller fighters. Byzantien took out one of the cruisers and several fighters, but there were too many of them. A laser punched a hole through her port turret, which exploded, breaking the whole arm away from the ship. Heinrich stood bravely at the bridge of his ship, continuing a stream of orders to maintain current shield levels. But the ship's power was failing, and it was becoming obvious that even as a frigate exploded that there was to be no celebrating this battle for them. Von Wessex sent one final communication to the Byzantine fleet that was busy taking the outer-most inhabitable planet of that system:

"I have lost the ship, but the battle continues!"

And then all communication was lost. And when the rest of the fleet arrived, there was nothing left of the Byzantien. Ever hand was gone, lost to the vacuum of space, just as black as the seas of Earth. The fleet set up a blockade, and began the slow process of starving the planet. The "Gate to Thala" (as Lalande IV became known as) did not fall during this war.

The Arcean Emperor approached Klaus cautiously. The Arcean "Golden Fleet" had been utterly crushed by the Thalans, opening Byzantium's North-Eastern colonies unguarded. The Arceans were ashamed, so ashamed they believd that it was time to pay their debt to the Byzantine Empire. The handed over their entire Empire over to the Byzantines, to prevent it falling to the Thalans. Klaus was not too happy with this move, because it also meant that territories of the Yor, far off in another corner of the galaxy. The planets of the Torians had been captured by the Thalans, and jutted into Byzantine territory dangeriously close to dividing the Empire. Klaus sat there, bored as the Arceans talked about responcibility and self-determination for their planets. The Byzantine ruler was growing annoyed with demands from a coward, and he was ready to say so. But he kept quiet. He sat there with a stern look on his face, but nodded as the Arcean talked. And talked, and talked.

Eventually, it was too much for Klaus, he slammed the table and stood up and shouted,

"Cowards! Give me one more demand or lecture and I'll have you dead so fast this planet will shiver on its axis. By God, you have surrendered to the enemy. I don't know about your world, but on this world people fight until death, and cowardice is punishable, in my armies, with death! Yet here you are, shivering cowards; yet you give me orders. I'll run this Empire as my father did, and his father and his father... all the way back to Romulus. I am God here, and you are going to fade quietly into the night." Klaus settled down, and returned to his chair. The Arceans looked at each other, horrified. The bowed their heads, got up and left. The Byzantines would run things as they saw fit. Over the centuries, the Arceans would slowly die out as humans spread into their former regions.

Klaus took a deep breath, and called for a drink. Anglesa brought it in to him, she was still not warming up to Klaus, who found this all the more enticing. He had not felt this feeling since his wife had died. Anglesa poured him tea into a tiny china cup.

"Will you not stay for some?" Klaus asked...

The Imperial Guard stood at attention as representatives from the Thalan Empire arrived to surrender to the victorious Byzantines. The peace was shaky, and Byzantium made only minor gains. But it was a victory, it gave them, time to plan and rest. The Byzantines were working on an even larger class of ships, one that would would prove desisive in the next war. Klaus waited behind the desk the peace treaty would be signed on. He tapped his pen idly and watched all of his troops. They never moved, just as they had been trained. Only the best could join the Imperial Guard, which hadn't fought a battle since the last war with Russia, during the early XX Century.

The uniform of the Imperial Guard, hasn't changed since 1830...

Slowly, the different Dukes began to appear, along with religious figures and news camaras. There was no sign of the Thalans, much to the anger of Klaus. Their ship was orbiting, as they recieved the last orders from the Hive mind. This was not an unconditional surrender, it was just that the war was becoming a hinderence to the plans of both nations. Klaus was glad the war was going to end, and the Hive was glad because it meant they could continue their slow binding grip on the Far-Northern Plain. Byzantine ships were being pulled back into Byzantine influence, except around the Lalande system, where Byzantine planets were within the influence of the fortress world, Lalande IV.

When the Thalans did arrive, they were nothing to the humans. Commoners threw food and other unmentionables at them and called them horrible things. When they entered the palace, te Imperial Guard did not salute them, but instead remained at attention. The bugs were sneered at, jeered and taunted. Even though it was a conditional peace, it was humilitating to the Thalans, who had never lost a war in their whole history. And here they were, signing a peace treaty in a foreign language on a foreign planet. Leaders of several minor races were also there, some as observers and others to partake in ending their wars with the Thalan.

Even as the peace cerimonies were going on, Imperial planners were already preparing for "Operation Blitzkrieg," a storming of selected Thalan bases in case war erupted again. Their plans were centered around the building of huge Dreadnaughts, about twice as big as any battleship. Not that the battleships weren't still important, the Dreadnaughts could only be effectively built on two planets, Earth and Drengi. New classes of battleship were needed, such as the Leuchter Class and Amerika Class, to name a few. Even so, these classes were not launched until late '32.

Klaus watched as the lead ambassador scribbled his 'name' on a the treaty. They didn't really have names, they were theoretically one single entity. So the peace was offical. But it was not long...

Lalande System

The Byzantine fleet began to blockade the heavily fortified Lalande IV once again. It didn't tak long for the Thalan Empire to declare war Byzantium and her allies. A week before, several Thalan transports entered Byzantine influence trying to reach the Iconian Refuge on the Southern galactic plain. The Byzantine reaction was swift, and all five transports were destroyed by Gustav fighter wings. This time, the Byzantines knew what to do. While the fleet blockaded Lalande IV, small detachments went to the Galactic North and invaded several small planets there. While all this happened, battleships like the KBRS Sieg, and KBRS Totenreiter prowled deep within Thalan territory destroying freighters, transports, colonial ships and warships. People within the Empire were angered by the Kriegsmarine's indistriminate attacking of all Thalan ships.

Even with this powerful plan enacted, it did not mean everything was a victory. On May 22, 2232, the Drath Legion surrendered their entire empire to the Thalans, giving the enemy a strong base within Byzantine influence, and in some sectors cutting Byzantine influence off completely. It took a few months to sieg and capture all these planets before the sieg of Lalande IV could become intensive...

KBRS Adolph
Wehrmacht Class Dreadnaught

On the political deck of the massive Adolph, the governor of Lalande IV surrendered the planet to the Byzantines after a two year siege. With the massive Thalan fleet there destroyed, and the planet in total chaos, the Kriegsmarine left to attack other surrounding planets. They weren't given much time though. Later that day, ambassadors from Byzantium accepted the unconditional surrender of the Thalan Hive once again. Klaus IX Dukas did not go, he was sick of the Thalans.
